I say if you are an AL team and you need a DH, you sign Bonds over Sosa.
For 2 reasons.
#1- Now Batting- The All Time HR King!
Imagine how that would draw. The all time homerun hitter batting for your team. You can sell merchandise left and right promoting the HR King. You would have fans coming to your stadium to watch him play or to try to catch his homeruns.
#2- He is the better player right now.
Sosa has lost his swing. Bonds is more capable of giving you more homeruns. He can still hit 30 per year.

This leaves me with Sosa
The past doesnt matter as much as the present and last year I saw a decline in Barry Bonds hitting ability. The guy only had 66 rbi's which shows hes not a clutch hitter anymore. In a DH all teams look for is the guy who can get the clutch hit to drive the run in when theres men in scoring position and Bonds isnt that good at it anymore. On the other hand theres Sosa. Yes he may not have hit as many homeruns as Bonds partly because he played in 12 less games but he did have 92 rbi's last year. I mean he had 36 more rbi's then Bonds in 12 less games. Somethins up and its that Sosa is a perfect fit to be a DH while Bonds is not
Also Sosa would sign with a team for 500 grand this year which is way less then Bonds would even think about. Bonds made 15 mill last year so theres no way hes taking a even a 14 million buck pay cut just to play one season as a DH. Knowing Bonds if its a bad team he would want way more then Sosa who after playing with Texas last year is just looking for another job to prove he is what he once was. Bonds would cost way more then Sosa and if your trying to win Sosa fitws the bill a bit better
Im out of room, goodluck Gu3

Hmm.. RBIs.
Ok. Batting ahead of Bonds last year was Roberts and Vizquel on opening day. Dave Roberts battted .260 last year. Omar Vizquel batted .246 last year.
Batting in front of Sosa last year was Lofton, Catalanotto, Young, Tex, and Blalock. Lofton battted .303 as a Ranger, Cat batted .260, Young batted .315, Tex batted .297 as as Ranger, and Blalock only played in 58 games.
Sosa had alot better hitters batting in front of him to drive in. Therefore, he has a better chance for an RBI.
Besides 2005 when he played 14 games (still had 5 HRs), Barry Bonds has not hit less than 25 hrs since 1989. Thats a long time. Sammy has seen a big decline in his stats. Going from 64-49-40-35-14-21 (when hit 21, played more games. ) Also, lets recall in 2005. The Baltimore Orioles signed Sosa as basically a DH but he also played the field. He played in only 102 and killed every rally imaginable.
"Also Sosa would sign with a team for 500 grand this year"
Dont i recall a story in SI.com that said Bonds would play for league minimum? I didnt see that about Sosa.
Civardi said 06/30, 01:56 PM
Last year Sosa played for 500 grand with the Rangers so why wouldnt he do it again. I mean Texas was a last place team even when he got signed so he would do it again if a team offered him. On the other hand why would Bonds take such a large pay cut. Hes the homerun king and deserves more right? If im a gm im looking for the best deal and Sosa's it. I mean Bonds made 15 mill last year while Sosa made the minimum which he did last year.
Kenny Lofton only played in 84 games last year and had less stolen bases, doubles, triples and hits then Roberts. Plus Loftons base percentage was only .5 better then Roberts so there was no big difference between them.
Bonds did have some solid bats behind him like Bengie Molina, Randy Winn, and Pedro Feliz who didnt have the best average but were still solid hitters who could easily drive in runs. Yes Sosa's were better but not that much. As said before I want the guy whos still on it and can make clutch hits, I get that in Sosa and not as much in Bonds
Tex only played in 74 games as a Ranger last year which only helped Sosa so much. It didnt really factor into that much better numbers
In all I would rather sign Sosa as my DH then Bonds
Gu3 said 06/30, 02:06 PM
Umm, comparing Lofton stats to Roberts doesnt matter since Lofton batted #1 and Sosa batted like #6.
Barry Bonds has said he will play for the league minimum. I dont think i have to say much more about that.
Players batting behind a batter has very little to do with that player's RBIs. He doesnt bat in the guys behind him.
74 games add up. I would rather have Tex for 74 games than Dave Roberts for 100+
Bonds still has the better power, plain and simple. His Homeruns are still above the 25 mark per year and he bring fans into the park, merchandise on the table, and media buzzing.

"74 games add up. I would rather have Tex for 74 games than Dave Roberts for 100+"
Roberts had more hits, doubles, triples and stolen bases then Tex did last year as a Ranger so that can go either way

Why would you want all that unwanted attention. If your a team like the Rays you dont want that, its a big distracton for what your getting. I mean every day your players get asked about Bonds and get side tracked from playing the game the right way. When there in the field and at bat there thinking about how to answer the questions there going to get about Bonds when the games done. Signing Bonds messes with there chemistry and personal heads. Plus Sosa is a better clutch player which makes him my choice

Bonds would be signed already if his attitude wasn't so foul and he wasn't such a huge headache to a ballclub.

Sosa actually could be a very good platoon player against LHPs if he allowed himself to be used in that manner. During his last two seasons, Sosa's hit for averages of .288 and .328.
