The Best College Football Mascot. (You Have 2 Choices, but if you chose 2 they have to be in the same conference.)(Chose 1 in any conference)
vtterrapin said 06/30, 12:51 PM
Florida State Noles and the Clemson Tigers. "The Chief" is one of the most intimidating Mascots. I remember when I was little and went to and FSU vs Maryland Football game. They scored and he rode right up to me, about 5 feet away, stared me down and planted that flaming speer into the ground. He not only gets the home crowd pumped up, but when they are away as well. "The Tiger" is also intimidating, but fun for any fans. I also remember 3 years ago he messed with me one game when they came to Byrd and he took my hat off (All in fun). I stomped on his tail and he played along like he was injured. He is a fun and competitive mascot. He also has wrestling matches with other mascots during the GAMES!!!!!! He usually wins. Therefore pumping up the home/away clemson crowd. There are actually 2 tiger mascots. I think the numbers are 00, and 1. Double Zero and One. They are reasons why those to ACC schools have huge homefield advantage.

Well I would expect nothing less from a big ACC supporter:)
I am a little confused how you took the topic I proposed and added these rules to it but I will be forced to choose one......The Georgia Bulldog(UGA).(Just to be fair My second would have been Brutus of OSU, unfortunately due to these new rules its out of conference)
Coming off the recent loss of UGA VI, I think this is a better time then most to point out what a HUGE deal the Georgia Bulldog is to the state and to the Football community. Thousands of candles were lit outside the veterinarian clinic where he passed away. UGA football commentators called into sports center and were in tears on the phone, 10's of thousands of letters have already poured into the UGA mail room causing them to hire students off the streets to help sort them out. UGA VI was Georgia football.
Why is this little bucktoothed dog the best mascot? Going back 3 generations of UGA's, they have always had a mean streak. Who will ever forget UGA V biting the Auburn player while he was celebrating a Touch Down. Or UGA VI lunging at the photographer at the black out game? More to come, as well as refuting your choices

GREAT POST. ALL CREDIT GOES TO YOU. I can't compete with that seriously. I love that dog when he BITES. ROOF ROOF!!!!!
Umm...seriously good post and my goodness I have nothing.
RaBDawG said 06/30, 03:26 PM
Ha - um...... Well I wasnt expecting that. I guess I will just continue with my argument?
What I was going to argue was the visibility of the mascots in question. The UGA's have been on the cover of Sports illustrated twice this decade alone as the Greatest Mascot in College Football. The Chief and the Clemson Tiger have never graced the cover. Also, anytime Georgia has a game on ESPN or CBS(National Television) There is always a side story in the pre game about UGA. The same cant be said for the Clemson Tiger, and I will be honest I am not sure if the Chief commands the same amount of attention, I dont catch many FSU games.
I also think a factor to being a great mascot is what the mascot means to the University/College and State. As I mentioned in my first argument Just days after his death, UGA VI impact on the Georgia faithful was pretty evident. The University and the State rally around UGA as much as any other mascot in the country. When he is rolling around in the middle of the field or attacking players/refs/reporters all eyes are on him and a a Georgia fan cant help but feel a sense of pride.

Probably the most classic mascot epidemic of recent times would have to be the Colorado Buffalo dragging all of its handlers during the opening of their spring game. Not sure if I can give the award to a mascot that dies every nine years.

HA that was really funny, in regards to your mascot that dies every nine years, how long do yout hink the 'Chief" Changes people, or the Clemson tiger stays the same? Most mascots are the same person for only 3 years. So I dont get your logic, if anything the UGA's have been one of the most long lasting same mascot...

my only problem with even using uga is that they are the most unhealthy useless dogs there are, they should use a large american bulldog or a boxer (which is recognized as a bully breed)

This is true Frank, I think its just tradition at this point. UGA VII is most likely going to be UGA VI's brother or Cousin so the lineage is secure for another 9 years

However I dont agree with them being useless or the boxer comment....at all

UGA gotta be #1..but #2 is hard. Arkansas has a pig. South Carolina a chicken, UT a guy that thinks he's Davey Crocket. Vandy who knows or really cares. Alabama something to do with a elephant, plus they bring laundry detergent and toliet paper to games. Auburn can't make up their mind. tigers or war eagles. Kentucky a cat. Mississippi and Mississippi State again who really knows or cares. So I would have to say UF or LSU #2 for the SEC.
