I wanted to switch up some of the starters, but I would get killed if I took any of those four out, so I kept Davs, Arenas, Maggette and Brand in.

So its Carter vs Telfair
Finley vs Pietrus
Zo vs Diop
Veterans vs youngsters......LOL
Carter averaged 7.8ppg and 5.5apg last season and is a solid steady backup PG who plays defense.......1.5spg...........
Telfair is inconsistent although he rebounded with a nice year.......9.3ppg and 5.9apg.......He is an undersized defender and isnt as good as Carter.......
Finley is a solid backup SG who averaged 10ppg, 3.1rpg and 1.4apg while shooting 37% from 3-point land......
Pietrus is a much better defender than Finley with 1spg but he doesnt have Finley's offensive firepower......7.2ppg in 20mpg
Zo is a much better rebounder and defender than Diop.......Mourning averaged 6ppg, 3.7rpg, 1.7bpg in just 15mpg while making 54.7% of his shots=a much more efficient offensive player.......
Diop 2.9ppg, 5rpg, 1.1bpg in 16.5mpg.......

Lol. I know, right?
Alright, Telfair scored more per game, and averaged more assists per game. Also, he had a better assist-to-turnover ratio, which is extremely important for a point guard.
Telfair- 9.3 PPG, 5.9 APG, 3.3 A/T
Carter- 7.8 PPG, 5.5 APG, 3.1 A/T
Next, look at the fact that Telfair is just 23 while Carter us 33. Telfair was a lottery pick while Carter was undrafted. I'm not holding that against AC, I have a ton of respect for him, he used to let kids sign his shoes before Wolves games, haha just thought I'd mention. My point is that Telfair has tons of potential, he just needs time to harness it; while AC is probably slowing down.
Finley is 35, Pietrus is 26. Pietrus rebounded more than Finley, even with less playing time. Pietrus is FAR better defensively, and with all the offense on this team, someone needs to play defense, which is why Pietrus is such a valuable asset.
Zo is probably retiring, but even so; he's 38 and has some major injuries. He's not what he once was, and is on the decline; whereas Diop is still just 26 and is developing for the future. Again, Zo is better on offense, but there needs to be defense, which is where Diop makes his mark.

Here's the dealio.........
You need veterans on the bench to win.......The Celtics knew this and got PJ Brown, Sam "I am" Cassell and what happened????
Telfair had 32mpg as opposed to Carter's 28mpg........Carter was much more efficient on offense, making 45% and 34.9% of his 3's to Telfair's 40.1% and 28.1%........
Zo is still a better defender than Diop in fewer mpg......1.7bpg in just 15mpg to Diop's 1.1 in 16.5mpg.......Zo provides the defense they need along with rebounding and some scoring in the low post on easy put backs, layups and dunks.......
Dont count out the old men.......
AHEM.........
0x NBA/NFL Champion said 07/01, 05:49 PM
Yeah, but let's be realistic; would you rather have some veterans to provide a presence, or better players that can help you win?
Carter was a better shooter last year. But with a point guard off the bench, you need someone who can run the offense. The two most important stats for that are assists and assist-to-turnover ratio. As you can see, Telfair was better in both.
Ah, dj. Here is where you are wrong.
Kevin Garnett was 25th in the league in blocks, and 17th in rebounds. Yet he won Defensive Player of the Year. What does this mean? That there is more to defense than just stats.
At this point in time, I don't know how you could take Zo over Diop. To come back, Zo would need to recover from his torn knee tendon; Zo was also quoted as saying there's "zero chance" of him playing next year. Even if he manages to come back, is he going to be more effective than Diop? He's 38 and hurt; Diop is 26, fresh and developing. Diop is better defensively, and he doesn't need the ball on offense like Zo does. Because of all of this, Diop fits in better than ZO.
You didn't argue Pietrus, so I guess that means I win that one.
Great throwdown, dj. It was fun.

Report Offensive CommentAll of the veterans PWN the youngsters, HOWEVER, the youngsters will be around longer. Zo is done, Carter is going to start declining, and Finley has already started to decline. Diop, Telfair, and Pietrus are on the rise. I would not want a bench full of mid to late 30-somethings and expect to win ANYTHING. Since right has addressed that, I have to go right
