*Only 1 starting pitcher and 1 closer*
C-Geovany Soto .284 BA/13 HR/47 RBI/.371 OBP He has been a great catcher this year, and is a candidate for ROY. Best catcher in the NL Central.
1B-Lance Berkman .365 BA/22 HR/68 RBI/.448 OBP He is the best 1B in the NL, do I need to explain why he is on the NL Central team?
2B-Mark DeRosa .295 BA/10 HR/45 RBI/.386 OBP He is a great 2B in the NL Central, and has helped out the Cubs greatly. He is on this team.
SS-Miguel Tejada .291 BA/10 HR/43 RBI/.330 OBP He is a good SS, and should be on the All-NL Central team. He is the best SS in the NL Central.
3B-Aramis Ramirez .289 BA/14 HR/45 RBI/.386 OBP He is the best 3B in the NL Central. He is on this team!
*have the outfield positions that they ACTUALLY play*
LF-Ryan Braun .282 BA/20 HR/58 RBI/.317 OBP He has been a GREAT LFer this year, and the only reason he doens't make this team is , well there is no reason why he shouldn't.
RF-Ryan Ludwick .285 BA/16 HR/56 RBI/.362 OBP He shouldbe here.
CF-Nate McLouth .280 BA/15 HR/52 RBI/.359 OBP
SP-Ben Sheets 9-2/2.83 ERA/1.07 WHIP/91 SO/7.36 K/9
CP-Kerry Wood 20 SVs/2.43 ERA/0.86 WHIP/51 SO/4-1/11.29 K/9
That is mine.

I will only list the changes
2B- Brandon Phillips- .284 BA/14 HR/ 51 RBI/ .329 OBP. He has more HR and RBI, but DeRosa has better BA & OBP
SP- Edison Volquez- 10-3/ 2.24 ERA/ 113 K/ 1.24 WHIP/ 9.72 K/9, So as you see Volquez is better than Sheets looking at their stats.
Sorry, I could only come up with two differences, but because of the positions some OF play I can't make any changes.
Good Luck dyhard

Alright, well I went with Mark DeRosa over Brandon Phillips for a couple of reasons.
Mark DeRosa has played several positions this year, with his main position being 2B, but he has also maintained an excellent BA and OBP with good production numbers.
He has been playing on the Chicago Cubs, and still gets on base a lot and gives the rest of his team a better chance to score him. DeRosa has 4 less games played, with the same number of runs scored.
He bats 6th or 7th in the batting order, and gets on base a lot. Phillips bats 4th, the cleanup hitter, but doens't have many HR or RBI for a guy that bats 4th. DeRosa bats 6th most games, he gets a good amount of HR and RBI, and he has played in only 4 games less.
I picked Ben Sheets because he has a better WHIP.
The ERA is misleading. 33 runs allowed by Volquez, 36 by Sheets. Very similar.
Sheets:
.229 BAA
.267 OBPA
23 walks
12 HR
96 hits
3 CG
1 Shutout
150 GB
128 FB
3.73 P/PA
15 P/IN
104.1 P/GS
Volquez:
.210 BAA
.314 OBPA
51 walks
4 HR
79 hits
0 CG and shutouts
133 GB
83 FB
4.03 P/PA
17 P/IN
102.4 P/GS
Sheets gets it done in less pitches, and does well. He allows less walks.

I picked Phillips because he is a very unusual second baseman that hits for a lot of power. Most second baseman don't hit for power and only for contact, so that is why I picked him, DeRosa is a contact hitter and doesn't bring in runs as much a Phillips does.
For Volquez I picked him becuase he strikes out a lot of batter, doesn't give up that many runs, wins games, and gives up a lot less HR than Sheets, has a better BAA, and has given up less hits. He is also on a bad team with the Reds, and if he was on a better team, he would have more wins and a lot better ERA.
That is why I choose these two players.
Dyhard -- Badgers/Brewers won said 07/03, 09:28 PM
He is unusual? Look at Dan Uggla and Chase Utley this year. Mark DeRosa and Ian Kinsler also have over 10 HR this year.
Anyway, Mark DeRosa is a contact hitter, and that is a very valuable player. He gets on base, and has the opportunity to score runs, as he has the same number of runs scored as a guy who bats 4th in the lineup with 4 less games played.
DeRosa still has a lot of RBI's and HRs for a "contact hitter".
Volquez might strikeout a lot of batters, but he has 28 MORE walks than Sheets. Plus, Volquez only has 22 more strikeouts than Sheets.
Volquez doesn't give up that many runs? He has given up 33 runs compared to Sheets 36 runs allowed.
Volquez also has a worse OBPA mostly because of the walks factor.
If he was on a better team he would have a lot better ERA? Are you sure about that? He already has a great ERA, but if he was on a better team, why would his ERA be better? That doesn't make sense to me.
Plus, Volquez has 10 wins, why do you say that if he was a better team he would have more wins? He already has a lot of wins.
Sheets gets through innings quicker than Volquez, and gets through at-bats quicker, which is better.
Out of room.

Now, lets look at the other side of being a second baseman, your defense.
Phillips
1 E
.997 FPCT
174 PO
209 A
36 DP
4.76 range factor
all this is 384 total chances
DeRosa
5E
.974 FPCT
108 A
82 PO
23 DP
4.76 range factor
in 194 total chance.
Yes, Phillips has played more games so he would have more chances and probaly better numbers, but Phillips has played 12 more games at 2B than DeRosa and DeRosa has very bad numbers, 5 E in only 50 G, while 1 in 82 for Phillips. This is definately better numbers.
Also, a little more hitting stats- Phillips has 17 SB, DeRosa has 3. DeRosa also has more Ks . Phillips has a better SLG .494, .452 for DeRosa. Also for Phillips a .826 OPS, .832 for DeRosa. 166 TB for Phillips and 123 for DeRosa. So a lot of numbers there are better for Philips than DeRosa.
Now, with Volquez he wins more than Sheets and that is better, Who cares, if Sheets gets out of innings quicker, if you win the game thats all that counts and Volquez has more than Sheets. That is why Volquez is better than Sheets
Good job dyhard!

Report Offensive CommentThis is hard to vote on. You both have the same lineups with only 2 differences. With that being said the two different players have similar stats form one set to the next. I would suggest stating the "runs scored" by each of the hitters to help deiced such stats in the future.
The deciding factor was defense. dyhard I believe YanksFan has you there. All in all it was very close.
