Pedroia is not doing that good this year.
Players like Placido Polanco and Ian Kinsler are doing better than him.
The only reason he is in there is becuase the All-Star Game voting is a popularity contest.
There is no way Pedroia should be in the ASG.
Disagree?? accept the td!
EFB JAY CUTLER! said 07/06, 04:06 PM
Ok I really don't think Polanco should be in discussion since Pedroia beats Polanco in EVERY cat except average by .004 and Ks.
So, Kinsler sure seems to get a lot of support and he should. Damn, the guys got a great bat.
Only problem is baseball is a two sided game. Offense AND defense. Kinsler is one of the WORST fielding second basemen out there more than tripling Pedroias number of errors.
Pedroia
5 errors
.988 fielding percentage and just a fielder who makes insane catches day in and out.
Kinsler
16 errors
.968 fielding percentage
HUGE difference. You have one of the best fielding second basemen and then one of if not THE worst.
Kinsler may edge out Dusty in offense but not nearly as much as perceived.
First of all, the runs argument is a little mut. Congrats to Murphy, Hamilton, and Bradley for hitting Kins home more than the Sox hitters can hit Peds home. Point is, runs are more of a product of a team.
Second, Kinsler only has 5 more homeruns and 4 more hits. He might have more RBIs but his offense has been more productive and his steals are more than made up by terrible defense. Plus Kinsler Ks more than Peds
More coming

Well, lets forget about Polanco!
Pedroia v Kinsler
Kinsler might make a lot of errors, but for the All-Star Game fans vote more to the offensive side.
Kinsler is a lot better on the offensve side:
AVG: .328 TO .313 for Pedroia
77 R to 60
14 HR to 9
53 RBI to 39
33 BB to 22
196 TB to168
23 SB to 9
.387 OBP to .357
.544 SLG to .462
.932 OBS to .819
Now, like you said Kinsler has more K's.
Defensive:
In 499 total chances for Kinsler he has:
202 PO, 281 A, 16 E, but has turned 84 DP and has a range factor of 5.79
For Pedroia in 403 total chances he has:
156 PO, 242 A, 5 E, but has only turned 51 DP and has a range factor of 4.69.
So to me Kinsler only has a worst FLD % and has more E, but he has more PO, A, and has turned a lot more DP and has a better range factor.
So with these stats I would think Kinsler has the better numbers.
EFB JAY CUTLER! said 07/06, 04:36 PM
Yeah man, offensive Kinsler is better. Its not near enough to sway the terrible defense.
You did exactly what I expected you and wanted you to do.
Double plays are as MUT as runs. Come on man, that pends on just about everything but the fielder. How fast the runner is, what type of pitcher you have, and your shortstop. Well, lets see. Kinsler has an EXCELLENT SS in Michael Young who is great with the glove while Pedroia has to deal with Lugo as his shortstop.
And here is my counter to your ENTIRE defesive argument. Pitchers.
The Sox are full of strikeout and flyball pitchers. Beckett and Dice K offer little ground balls to field and the whole Texas staff is more groundball pitchers than anything who rarely have big K games and rely on double plays to get out of innings. The double plays and assists and put outs all are caused from groundball pitchers which the Sox do not have much of.
I can't blame Pedroia for not getting outs that aren't there but I CAN blame Kinsler for sporting one of the worst fielding percentages for qualifying second basemen and having the most errors of any second basemen.
All of Kinslers accomplishments are production of his team.

Read my argument then. Not many people know that Kinsler is one of if not the worst defensive second basemen.
Defense is HUGE and shouldn't just be swept under the rug.
As a Red Sox fan, I imagine you watch the games. Pedroia makes unreal plays in the field and is a huge reason for Boston's success in the field. I would much rather have a top tier fielder who is a good hitter than a great hitter who is one of the worst fielders out there.

Great first argument EFB, but I will wait for the rest. Yanksfan, you're going to have to really impress some people here to get votes, well from people who actually read the arguments.

cowboysfan123, you're probably not even a real Red Sox fan if you say that. When did you start liking the Red Sox? 2004? 2007? If you knew anything about the Red Sox, then you would know that Pedroia plays great on both sides of the ball and definitely deserves to start the All-Star game, even though there are other worthy candidates.

I am ashamed of you. No real Red Sox fan would write that in the comment box. You're probably some bandwagon jumper who doesn't actually know enough about the Sox to know how important he is.

Kinsler doesnt have a 1st basemen though. There is no set 1st basemen on the Texas roster so many of those errors could be due to the 1st basemen. Pedroia has a gold glove 1st basemen who can prevent many of his errors.
