Equestrian Individual Dressage - Fundamentally, this "sport" is judges rating how well a horse prances to music. The amazing skills that will earn the rider a gold medal are: trotting in place and trotting while looking pretty.

Synchronized Diving - Diving can be a useful skill, but unless you're jumping out of a helicopter with 20 other Navy Seals, there's no reason to do this with others. Especially in a speedo.

Trampoline Gymnastics (Men and Women's) - Most people stop playing on trampolines once they hit puberty, but the few socially inept rejects who persist can earn a gold medal and go on to a lucrative careers wearing polyester costumes and dunking during timeouts of NBA games.

Synchronized Swimming Women's Team - Swimming keeps you from drowning. It's usefullness beyond that is very dubious. Unless these teams are trying to make a shark think it's looking into a koleidoscope, and thus, scare it away, there is not a shred of usefulness to this skill.

Men's/Womens 50km Walk - For those too lazy to run, you too can still be a world class athlete! This event is also known as the "Moms in a department store trying to be the first to a discount rack."

Synchronized Swimming - totally agree.....all you have to do is remember the SNL skit with Martin Short to know why this is just plain nutty

Trampoline (mens or womens) - I agree as well.... seriously? who can jump the best on a trampoline? If they had the women from the Man Show doing this I can understand...

Synchronized diving - I agree.....do they get bonus points if they each hit their heads at the same time?

The Women's Individual Rythmic Event (Floor Dancing) - lets dance around a gymanstics mat with a streamer....oh the fun you can have and win a medal! How do you judge this? Who twirled their streamer the best?

Any of the equestrian events - equestrian events are right up there with NASCAR - who is the althete - the horse or the jockey?

So, we have Racewalking vs Rhythmic Gymnastics.

Absurdity is what we're after here. What is more absurd than moving as fast as you can (racing), without moving as fast as you can (walking)? It is absurd to have a contest of a non-skill. The only people who should be impressed by walking are infants under 1 and paraplegics.

If this qualifies as an Olympic event, I see no reason that the 400 Meter Mosey, the 200 Meter Moonwalk, and the 20km Shuffle are excluded. They can think up the same kind of dorky rules that race-walking has to make sure everyone is doing it right.

An anorexic chick twirling ribbons, tossing a ball around, and playing with hoops may not be compelling television, but you can reasonably make some sort of scoring system for it (drop it and lose points, difficulty, etc.).

Race-walking is so absurd it requires judges following every competitor the entire 50 km to make sure that they are doing the goofy duck-style walk they've invented JUST right.

I dare anyone not to laugh while watching this:

At least race walking is timed....first across the line wins and due to the length of the race, it does require endurance and stamina to go as fast as you can (without going too fast).

Rhythmic events are judged. Once again, it is totally arbitrary by the judges who wins or not. Yes, they have standards but if judge blinks and misses something plus judges are easily bought (especially French Ice Dancing judges).

To me an absurd sport is one where there is no clear cut winner determined by either score (runs, baskets not judges score) or by time (I beat you to the line, I win - you beat me to the line, you win).

While race-walking is funny to walk at least there is a clear cut winner.

Rhythmic gymnastics is not a race that can be objectively determined. It is a test of dexterity, skill and artistry. We have no measures (like a watch) for those qualities. That does not mean that they do not exist, and should not be judged.

Judging subjectivity is a problem for many sports, not just rhythmic gymnastics. However, there is a reason you chose rhythmic gymnastics over, say, regular gymnastics, or Boxing (which at the Olympic level, winners are completely subjective and judges can be bought and sold as well, ask Roy Jones Jr. or Evander Holyfield). The reason you chose rhythmic gymnastics over gymnastics and boxing is because, by it's very nature, it is more silly--more absurd.

In that intrinsic sense, the nature of race-walking is as absurd as any event can be. Walkers are disqualified for moving too fast, and bending their knees at the wrong time. IN A RACE!

In life, the slowest runner gets eaten by the Lion. The fastest walker...still gets eaten, because everyone else runs.

Rhythmic gymnastics is dancing......dancing with a streamer. Like someone said in the comments, that kind of "sport" is more for a reality show than the Olympics.

The 50K race walk is almost a marathon while having to keep a set pace - too fast and you're DQed....how many of us could get out there and walk almost a marathon in the time those walkers do? Not many I believe, not at the pace they do it at.

Now, how many of us could jump around a mat with a streamer and make it look purty? I'm guessing most of us could get out there and do it to some extent.

Most of us would probably pass out doing the race walk - it does require endurance and stamina. All rhythmic gymnastics require is knowing how to twirl a streamer while you jump around to music and hope the judges nod off and miss you dropping the streamer.

Give me a timed event over any untimed-judged event any day.

Give me some time to come up with my list. I'll try to change as many as I can.

July 7, 2008  10:05 AM ET

Sorry Ram, could really only come up with 1 difference.

July 7, 2008  10:10 AM ET

hey, my wife and i just bought a trampoline, back off

July 7, 2008  10:11 AM ET

the fast walk is retarded, have you seen them?

July 7, 2008  10:14 AM ET

Too strong of a list from Ram, there really is no arguing it.

Although, games such as handball, badminton, and ping pong make you ask what events should not be included.

Beer Pong anyone?

I picked the topic before I looked up the events, I wasn't trying to make it unarguable.

July 7, 2008  10:16 AM ET

Selling stolen merchandise? I don't see why that should be an Olympic competition either.

July 7, 2008  10:39 AM ET

I was going to say swimming.

You swim to prevent drowning.

Running. You run to help the earth maintain its revolution.

July 7, 2008  10:43 AM ET

LOL, I love the walking video!!! That is hilarious, but they really do get into a groove don't they? haha. And then the replay in slow motion as she crosses the finish line. That is hilarious. But alas, I must hold my vote until all arguments have been completed.

July 7, 2008  10:48 AM ET

Racewalking is a great pick, hahahahahah. They get DQed if they run!

July 7, 2008  10:55 AM ET

Race walking is indeed the most assinine sport in the world. Go as fast as you can, but don't go fast. Next up: whoever swims slowest wins! Jeebuz. Why don't we just play Red Light Green Light.

However, rhythmic gymnastics isn't even a sport at all. It's a performance.

Now if the Olympics were run by Fox and gymnastics was So You Think You Can Dance, it might...MIGHT make sense to include that event. But it's ludicrous to put RG up against actual events (ie those that require ability) like the uneven bars or the balance beam.

July 7, 2008  10:55 AM ET

So I'm torn.

July 7, 2008  11:04 AM ET

Imagine your name was Rip Torn.
