If the US Olympic team was the 2007-2008 Boston Celtics the United States would win the Gold Medal

With Rondo, Allen, Pierce, Garnett, and Perkins, with Posey and House of the bench no International team would be able to stop them.

Not Spain, Garnett would again manhandle Gasol, not Argentina, Allen could cover Manu, and not China, Garnett would be too quick for Yao to cover.

This team would have great teamwork and a plan something the mixture of superstars we know as the Olympic team has.

No Actually they Wouldn't

There is a slight problem with that thoery.

They hardly could win on the road in the playoffs, how do you expect them to win almost all the way across the world?

Plus international play is a lot different than the NBA. The US team selected players that have played and thrived at the international level for their team.

As interesting as it would be, the Celtics would not win the Olympic Gold in Bejing

Well in the NBA playoffs they were playing against teams that are far more talented and actually in sync with each other something the US olympic team right now is not.

I'd like you to tell me when these selected players that are on the US Olympic team thrived Internationally.

In the last Olympics they earned a bronze medal, not exactly thriving for a US mens basketball team.

Tell me a team that can match up with the Celtics who would be well rested, and have learned how to play with each and are actually a team as we saw in the NBA Finals.

Spain can't match up, and they would be on the road as well, every team except China would be on the road.

No international player, or any player can stop Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett when they are working as an actual team, not just a bunch of selfish players like Carmelo chucking up shots.

While Garnett, Allen and Pierce are all superstars they actually know how to play TEAM basketball.

The international game is a hell of a lot different than the NBA as I have said before.

Plus the Celtics had the longest run of all the teams in the NBA, as they won the NBA title and two of the series went to 7. So who knows what would happen to their bodies after practice and games up to the latter part of August.

I am also pretty sur with a team like the U.S. has, all the selfishness you are using as an arguement is null and void, these players have played for the last 4 years with one another and have had some success, most Americans have the problem of accepting that their team is not the best.

The U.S. team will win the Gold in Bejing, but the Celtics would not.

good opener from the right, could earn the vote with that.

I would have concerns about adjustment to the international game. The team would be cohesive, but our team USA has practiced together with international rules.

obviuously the Celtic team would have to practice just like our Olympic team is doinng right now

Yes, but this Olympic team has more or less been together for two and a half years now and logged hundred of practice hours together. Still, I think the Celtics would win gold.

I actually think these Celtics would have a better chance of pulling it off than the US National Squad.

In fact, I think the US isn't going to come back with the gold. Too many superstars, inability to attack zone defenses, lack of fundamentals, lack of size, etc etc etc.

Athleticism alone isn't going to get it done, as we've seen.

Hyped - size is much less important under FIBA rules. It's harder to play back to the basket. Winning in FIBA competitions is all about good perimeter defense and being able to have everyone on the floor hit their jump shots.
