Absolutly some coaches are putting injured players back on the field or court while still injured. Take the Mets they rushed Church back and he is on and off with that concussion. Beasley was rushed back with his injury right now. Some coaches think about winning only they don't think about the players future with an injury. Concussions and other injuries can be life threatening if not taken care of.

The problem isn't the coaches, it's the players.
Take it from me as a current player, coaches are not forcing players to play through injuries.
Most schools have great medical trainers that will not allow you to play if it could potentially damage your future, but is the problem most of the time is players that refuse to sit the bench for a game or two and want to play and risk season and possibly career ending injury's.
All of the guys you see out on that field or court got there by having a great competitive fire in them that compels them to play no matter what injury is facing them.
Coaches always ask a player, and I quote "Do you think you can play" and if you say no, they stick a bag of ice on you and give you a pair of crutches. If you say yes, they keep a close eye on you and ask you periodically through the game, How's your ankle holding up, and they keep a back-up ready at all-times if you change your mind.
Players have the choice to sit or play, if they get hurt worse, it's nobodies fault but there own.

Well of course everyone knows what the player will say and that is yes he is ready to play. It's the coaches job to step in and say no. For an example Tony LaRussa and Yadier Molina when Yadi had his concussion he said he was good to go but Tony didn't want to risk it so he stepped in and said no.
That last part no way Ryan Church was rushed back and he got the concussion and within three days was injured becuase of the concussion. Now he is feeling the effects again because he was rushed back with migraines.
But i do agree some players are so focused on helping their team win that they rush back to try and help.

"Well of course everyone knows what the player will say "
Then it's the players fault, if he had any sense at all he would know when it's time to ride the pine.
Ryan Church was a rare case scenario, anyone who suffers a concussion can have it happen, it had nothing to do with him getting rush back, but when you have a concussion, you un that risk no matter how long you sit out.
Like JoseyRamos said, Team doctors or Team Trainers have much more power on when an athlete can or cannot play than the coach, so if your gonna blame anyone, blame The team doctor because he has most of the say on when a player can or cannot say, and if the team doctor says no, the it is illegal in the state of Louisiana (I don't know about Illinois) for the Head coach to reverse the team physician's decision.
And since you used an example I'll use one as well.
In the 1980's ( Forgot which year) The Rams were playing the Cowboys in the NFC championship game. Jack Youngblood, the rams star DE broke his leg. He was taken into the locker room and he told the trainer to tape it up and let him back out there . Now because of his stupidity (or bravery, either or) he suffers pain in his leg every day.

Down here in Illinois its up the the medical doctors, player, and coaches like in Louisiana.
The Ryan Church situation could have been avoided if they would have given him at least a week off but 2-3 days is not enough. I have many friends (football players) who have gotten concussion and one was rushed back and now has migraines everyday. There is a point where the coach and doctors tell the guy no matter what he says he is not playing.
There are teams out there that don't take all the precautionary steps but some do. Sometime they have life injuries like you said with Youngblood, that was his decision though to. He must have done something to have his name honored with big time players at the Rams stadium.

Down here in Illinois? your like 800 miles north of Louisisana, you don't say "Down Here", that doesn't make any sense. When you live North of somebody you say up here, because north is up.
Every team in the NFL and NCAA take every precautionary step known to man to preventinjuries, if they didn't the media would destroy them and then the NCAA or NFL would give that team somewhat of a probation officer, in other words he sticks around the facilities and makes sure that everything is taken care of that could help the players well being, the guy who they get to do this has A title, I just can't remeber what he's called.
Nice quick TD, Happy voting.

This is a good topic, good job Stump. Need more topics like this one. This is a problem that does deeper than the coach, the doctor or the player. Its the system. There is just to much money involved and coaches are under extreme pressure to win and win now. Players are under pressure to get back on the field, especially in the NFL, or they lose their job. There are tons of examples of players rushing themselves back so they can make the team or not lose their starting position. Coaches want their best players possible so they can win or they lose their job. I mean how many losing seasons can a coach endure even at the college level. Two tops in a lot of cases.
All are to blame but its the system. Winning brings in tons of money and the owners/administrators pressure everyone in order to full fill goals and keep fans in the seats. Sports, even on the college level, are a big time business and money is everything to them.
The player can make the choice to sit out longer but than he faces the chance of being black balled in the organization or cut. If you are a star player you will start to lose endorsements. How many commercials do you see McNabb in now a days. If you are a starter you might lose your starting spot and any bonuses that come with play time. If your a bench player you will lose your job.
You would think Coaches would want their player healthy for years to come but they need to win right now or they are packing their bags and moving their families again. The added pressure of moving your family all over the damn place doesn't help things either. Coaches barely have enough time today to build up a program let alone suffer set backs with injuries. The injury excuse only works so long with your superiors and media.
Team Doctors are suppose to be the median but when you work for the organization your integrity is compromised and they are under pressure to get these athletes back out there. The player can get a second opinion but than we are back to a couple of paragraphs up. The player being under pressure to preform.
