Rule 1: Position ONLY in first argument.
Rule 2: Argue in 2nd and 3rd
Rule 3: You must choose a different position from mine
Rule 4: If you can't follow these rules you must forfeit or, at least, be publicly ridiculed for being incapable of following simple rules.

Ready?

Most important position on a football team.

My choice is QB.

MLB

Middle Linebacker? Really?

I do wonder how the Patriots have been so successful without even HAVING that position on their team. Ditto the San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys. How can a team be so good without even using the most important position on the field? Nah, can't be MLB. See..there IS NO middle linebacker in a 3-4 defense. You have right and left inside linebackers and right and left outside linebackers. No mike. I wasn't going to argue at all, but I couldn't pass that one up. ;-)

I'll stop there because this TD is actually intended to be a parody of how ridiculous TD's have become in recent months. At least you followed the rules. ;-)

The question is do you think the most important player on the team is more responsible for putting points on the board, or for keeping points off the board.

I was going to argue for center, but decided to be different and go with a defensive player. Will this make you happy then MLB/ILB. Does that make you feel better CCC?

The QB does 99.9% of the time touch the ball everysingle snap, but if not for decent skill position players around him the greatest QB can really look like crap and not be all the important for anything. Look at the Raven's team that won the Super Bowl. Was the most important player on the team that day Trent Dilfer? I don't think so.

The MLB/ILB is usually the first person on the field to see whether a play is run or pass and lets the rest of the D know that so that in theory the rest of the D can either swarm to the ball to stop the run or drop back into pass coverage.

They also have to have the ability to rush the passer from time to time, stop the run, or drop back in pass coverage against TE or the slot recievers in multiple reciever sets.

More to follow

Well, which is it? LILB, RILB, or MLB? or all 3? Can't you read the rules? It clearly states most important position...not positionS. At least I picked a position every team actually has!

In theory your are correct about your LB comment, however. In everyone of those 3-4 defenses you mention one of those OLB's is blitzing. Dallas with Ware is blitzing more than half the time, San Diego with Merriman, even the Giant's back in the day with LT. Which in turn means what? One of those ILB is sliding over to be the true OLB while the other one is the middle. It's not just now either it has always been like that.

The only real time an ILB on a 3-4 is an ILB is when both OLB's blitz all the time like the Giants used to do with Carl Banks and LT, or the Steelers with Greg Lloyd and Kevin Green. Those are really the only times that ILB's are truely playing ILB. Therefor in my opinion even with the 3-4 one of those ILB's is truely a middle linebacker. When I think of Ray Lewis I don' t think of ILB I think MLB, when I think Shane Conlon from the old Bills I think MLB, when I think Pepper Johnson from the Giant's I think MLB. That is just my opinion though.

MLB??? WHAT??? WHAT??? NO WAY!!! YOU'RE CRAZY DUDE!!!!!
I'M SO MAD THAT I CAN'T THINK STRAIGHT!
YOUR PICK ENRAGES ME!!!
I AM OUTRAGED!

I VOTE RIGHT!!!! WAY BETTER ARGUMENTS!!!

July 11, 2008  04:20 AM ET

Umm we havn't argued yet. I think it also depends on what you consider more important to a team scoring points or preventing points from being scored.

July 11, 2008  04:27 AM ET

LMAO, Yoda.

July 11, 2008  04:31 AM ET

Lost my cool up there, I did.

July 11, 2008  04:35 AM ET

"Umm we havn't argued yet."

Only because my "rules" wouldn't allow you to argue.

"I think it also depends on what you consider more important to a team scoring points or preventing points from being scored."

So 3-4 teams can't prevent teams from scoring?

July 11, 2008  04:37 AM ET

"Lost my cool up there, I did."

Funniest thing was going off on his choice then saying you were voting for him based on "way better arguments". ;-)

July 11, 2008  04:39 AM ET

Sorry Wild Bill, I think you got caught up in what was basically making fun of TD's in general, here. I'll be happy to do a real TD with you, if you like.

I've seen TDs where 20 votes are in before the 2nd argument.

"I've seen TDs where 20 votes are in before the 2nd argument."

I've been IN TDs where more than 20 votes are in before the 2nd argument...

July 11, 2008  04:45 AM ET

That wildbill took this thinking it was a normal, legit TD is a testament to the statement I was trying to make by starting it, though.

July 11, 2008  04:50 AM ET

CCC I really just like to debate people on sports I have been waiting to TD with you Yoda and some others because you speak intelligently on sports. Don't speak in ebonics or just plain retarded, and usually make sense. My bad. LOL.

July 11, 2008  04:50 AM ET

Exactly what you predicted would happen could very well have happened. You could have sat on your first argument for 23 hours while people voted on the title of the TD rather than anyone's arguments. I've seen people's list-first TDs get fully killed in the comments section rather than by their opponent.

It's all good wildbill.

July 11, 2008  04:54 AM ET

"Will this make you happy then MLB/ILB. Does that make you feel better CCC? "

Nah. There is a HUGE difference between a mike and an ILB. They aren't interchangeable.

I know. I feel bad that you took it because it was never serious in the first place. I was making a larger point about TD's in general.

July 11, 2008  04:58 AM ET

"Exactly what you predicted would happen could very well have happened. You could have sat on your first argument for 23 hours while people voted on the title of the TD rather than anyone's arguments."

Yep. And might still. Even with me explaining it down here AND in the TD itself. I'm the wrong person to pull this off, anyhow. Too many enemies who vote against me no matter what to get a good gauge of who is voting for what reason. Ah, the dynamics of fan nation voting, lol.

July 11, 2008  04:59 AM ET

Wild bill I'll tell you right now I"m not making another argument in this one until tomorrow so don't wait on me.

July 11, 2008  04:59 AM ET

Oh ok. I know what you mean though I try not to vote until all the arguments are made then vote most of the time. If an person just makes themselves look kind of stupid though early in the TD like Peach, PaulPierce, or that AndreNBA person then I will vote early.
