Gonets
You Made a claim that
Tiki Barber was better than Thurman THomas - and TT was overrated!
Defend yourself!!
gonets said 07/11, 01:13 PM
Ok. I know I am going to be on Goodell's hit list for this, but I hgave good reason for saying what I did, which was in response to a TD Porkins brought up and I commented on.
First, we will start with stats.
Thurman Thomas (13 years in the NFL):
5x Pro-Bowler, 2x All-Pro, 12,074 yards, 65 TDs, and 66.3 yards per game.
Face it. 66.3 yards per game is not THAT good. That's one of the reasons why he is overrated. And to only amass that over a 13 year career when players like Jim Brown (9 years), Barry Sanders (10 years), Walter Payton (13 years) all of ypg's of 104.3, 99.8, and 88.0, respectively. So 66.3 is NOT good at all for a back deemed as great as Thurman.
Tiki Barber (10 years)
3x Pro-Bowler, 1x All-Pro, 10,449 yards, 55 TDs, 67.9 yards per game, HIGHER than Thomas's. Now if Barber had stuck around as long as Thomas, his numbers would project out like this: 13,708 yards (over 1,700 more yards), 72 TDs (7 more than Thurman).
These are rushing stats only. So we see Barber IS better in every statistical category than Thurman was at that point in his career. And as stated earlier, 66.3 ypg is not something to be crazy about.

Lets Change this a little bit -
Lets compare them BOTH to the Age of 31- before Thomas moved to the 3rd down back and off to Miami.
(thomas had 6 starts in 28 games last 3 years)
Their years as a STARTER for their Teams
They BOTH started at the age of 22 by the way- and Thurman's last year as a starter was at the same age as Tiki's last year
Thomas has 63 Rushing TDs
Barber has 55 Rushing TDs
Thomas Has 11405 Yards
Barber has 10449 Yards
Yards per game 74.03 for Thurman
Yards per game 67.9 for Tiki
Tiki made 3 ProBowls and 1 All-Pro Team
TT made 5 Pro Bowls and 2 All-Pro teams
Tiki lead the NFL 2 times in Yards from Scrimmage and ONCE in All-Purpose yards
TT lead the NFL FOUR times in Yards from Scrimmage and THREE times in All-Purpose yards
Niether ever lead in Yards OR TDs
Thurmans Best was 2nd and 3 3rd place finishes
Tiki only has a 2nd place and no other top 3 finishes
and lets keep in Mind- Thomas' prime was also the era of Emmitt, Sanders and Allen
You may counter with ANY RB you wish- but NONE are of the caliber of those 3 today

"You may counter with ANY RB you wish- but NONE are of the caliber of those 3 today "
Really? How about Marshall Faulk, Larry Johnson, LaDainian Tomlinson, Jerome Bettis? Those are 4 guys that ARE on the same caliber as the oher 3 you mentioned, and Tiki was around the same time as all four of them as well. And he fared exceedingly well despite that stiff competition.
Thurman Thomas, not to take anything away from him, is not a Top 7 RB, despite what some think. The Top 7 of all time (in no particular order) are:
Jim Brown
Barry Sanders
Emmitt Smith
Marshall Faulk
O.J. Simpson
Terrell Davis
Walter Payton
and rounding out the Top 10 (also in no particular order):
Bo Jackson
Tony Dorsett
Jerome Bettis
By the time LDT is done, he could be in the Top 10. Add to that McFadden as well, and you are looking at Thurman getting jumped over more constantly.
Thurman is NOT as great as it seems. He doesnt even make the Top 10. Why? One word: OVERRATED. Yes, he is the BEST Bills' RB of all-time, but he doesnt come close to the greats.
I will concede TT is better than Tiki. But I WONT concede that he is OVERRATED. So Dave, BRING IT ON as to why you think he ISN'T
This is not the Pimp you want said 07/13, 12:43 AM
Marshall Faulk, Larry Johnson, LaDainian Tomlinson, Jerome Bettis
are just as good as Emmitt, Allen and Sanders?
You go more insane daily.
Other than LDT - he is the ONLY one with the POTENTIAL to even carry the other 3's water to the field
How can I prove that?
LOOK AT YOUR OWN TOP 7 LIST
Jim Brown
Barry Sanders
Emmitt Smith
Marshall Faulk
O.J. Simpson
Terrell Davis
Walter Payton
The FIRST 3 out of your Mouth (keyboard?) Are the THREE I mentioned- the 4 YOU "claim are as good as they are- only 2 make your OWN top 10 list!
Thank you for PROVING my point with your OWN words
and for admitting Thurman laughs at Tiki's challenge
Now.
Overrated
Def rated too highly
I think TT is a top 25-30 all time back as a rusher and as an all purpose back top 10
He is never going to crack my personal top 15 list that I have seen LIVE - but he is a Hall of Fame RB.
Now my esteemed opponent - How is he overrated?
gonets said 07/14, 12:22 AM
I didnt prove your point. He is overrated. You even DONT deny that.
"Overrated
Def rated too highly

So by YOUR own admission, he is overrated. I NEVER said he wasnt a top 25 RB, but lots of people list him in their Top 7. He clearly ISNT that good, which means he is overrated to some extent.
And 2 of my 4 are in the Top 7, but another one is in my Top 10, in casse you didnt notice.
Thurman is also HOF-worthy. I NEVER said he wasnt. he just clearly doesnt measure up to the qulatiy of ither RBs throughtout NFL history.
So here is how I see it. We agree on the fact he is overrated. I conceded the Tikit part of it. So it appears we have argued this to a draw.
Now it's jsut time to let the voters decide.
RIP Bobby Murcer.
