Who got the better deal the Cubs or the A's

A's: Sean Gallagher, Matt Murton, Eric Patterson, John Donaldson

Cubs: Harden, Chad Gaudin

Ill say the A's got the better deal even though its not the right choice its the smart one

First off Gallagher has a very bright future in this league. The 22 year old had a 3.1 era in the minors but more impressive is that hes already the A's number four starter and has a 1.36 whip. Yes his era is a little high at 4.45 but this is his rookie season and hes had games when he has been lights out like against the dodgers when he only alowed one run in seven innings against the potent Dodger offense. All this makes Gallagher a future all star and a great value

Then theres Murton a solid outfielder with good potential, hes 26 and still hasent peaked yet. With a .298 average in the minors and 11 doubles in only 57 games Murton is going to become a good player consifering he'll be starting soon

Eric Patterson is the next Brian Roberts, he can hit, is fast and a good leadoff hitter. In Iowa(Cubs AAA) Patterson hit .320 with six homers,28 rbis, and 11 stolen bases which shows he has what it takes to be a good pro

Ill get into Harden next

Ok, this will be tough, but I'm going to say the Cubs got the better deal. I'll pack as much as I can into this post.

Cubs get:
Harden - When healthy one of the best starters in MLB, hands down. Electric stuff and a K machine. Yes, oft injured, but the Cubs just need him to perform for 1 half of the season and help them to the post season and hopefullly the series.

Gaudin - A very solid reliever who makes spot starts, and could become a starter in the future. He pitched well for the A's in the rotation in 07.

A's get:

Gallagher - 4-4 with a 4.25 ERA thus far, and not many teams have seen his stuff. I'm not going to call him a dominant young arm, but still probably the best player the A's received.

Patterson - You say "the guy can hit", but he really can't. Like his older brother, Eric is currently hitting .237 with 1 HR. His AAA's have also been far from dominant. He is also well below average defensively.

Murton -Downright pathetic to watch play in the outfield. He can also pretty much only hit lefties. Maybe a decent utility outfielder, maybe not.

Donaldson - Admittedly a promising prospect, but has only played A ball to this point.

Out of room - will explain later

I dont know...Its a fair deal all around. The A's ditched a lot of salary and a guy who can never stay healthy, and in return they got some solid prospects. The cubs got a good SP, and when healthy Harden is lights out. But I think the A's got the better deal, even though they didnt get the prospects like Cleveland got from Milwaukee, they still got a good haul.

And the Cubs made a bad choice going with Harden, he rarley stays healthy, he wont sign after this season, and Gaudin is horrid. They should have made a deal for Burnett, possibly Bedard. Plus the Cubs threw their future out the window with that trade, as they have absolutley NO prospects left.

Murton is a platoon outfielder and always will be. He has had infinite chances to be a cubs starter but cant get it done. His range is suspect in the field with a bad arm. Patterson shows flashes but his inability to field 2B makes him a man without a position since he doesnt have the pop for OF. I like Gallagher but Harden and Gaudin far superior. The fourth guy is a 219 hitter in AA. Plus as a catcher there is no chance he will play with Soto in Chicago.

Cubs got a guy who is 5-1 in 9 starts vs NL with a 1.8 era. Gaudin can play relief or start and his numbers are even better than Gallagher's or Marquis.

I wish gallagher and Murton best of luck, but cubs better deal.

You cannot go against billy ball.
he ALWAYS wins these type of deals....

Now if only he had the same ability to WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS instead of constantly hovering above mediocraty.....
THAT would be something

Harden is still better than Burnett and Bedard.

Cubs got the better deal and now have a very good shot at ending the curse.

I took one and argued for Oakland and won it pretty easily.
