UGA should change Mascots

It is animal cruelty to use such an animal as the English Bulldog as a mascot. It is arguable the worst dog breed there is. They are bred to be overweight and under athletic. They have breathing (respiratory) issues. Bone Structure issues. Spinal Issues. Druel and Flatulence issues.

They have an avg life span of 8 years. The lowest of any dog breed b/c they are bred to be so useless. The NCAA should site the Univ of GA for cruelty and force them to change to a breed such as the Pit Bull, American Bulldog, or Boxer.


This is so typical of you, Frank.

You bring this PC, tree-hugging, liberal, hooray for PETA, hippie-crap point of view to a serious sports debate forum.

The NCAA has no business telling Schools what their mascots should be. None. Ever. The NCAA is not the world police who should enforce truth, justice, and the American way in every aspect of our lives. They exist solely to ensure that college competitions are engaged in fairly, and cleanly.

That's it. It is a travesty that they have morphed into a multi-million dollar comglomerate that believes it can dictate anything to Universities.

As for UGA changing its mascot on its own:

People who smoke have breathing problems and shorter lifespans. Are you in favor of getting rid of them for their own good, too?

You have drool and flatulence issues.

Are you advocating that we get rid of you?

These poor, mishapen beasts would die out if not for the heroic efforts of UGA to support this miserable breed through mascottery. In fact, every University should be required to change its mascot to the English Bulldog, in order to preserve the species. Lest it die out in a cloud of flatulence.

A. Its not that typical of me, I am generally right as opposed to left. However; the bulldogs in general are excellent dogs and the English Bulldog gives them a bad name. Kind of like the Englishman, gives Men in general a bad name. Encouraging the breeding of the English Bulldog is what UGA is doing and its wrong. It is a messed up dog that should not be intentionally bred.

There are millions of Dogs in the pounds needing homes. I am not opposed to buying a pure bred dog while those dogs suffer but it needs to be a dog with a purpose that you cant adopt well. Such as protection, seeing, hunting, playing with children, or somethign to that affect. Breeding the English Bulldog is a complete waste. Instead of getting this useless animal people should be sent to adopt. UGA is encouraging the breeding of a useless animal. It is wrong. They should change to a breed with a purpose.


Dogs USED to have purposes. They don't now. When was the last time you saw someone in America use a Shetland Sheepdog to herd sheep? Dogs in the US are for vanity only.

Little old ladies like to have fluffy poodles because they're soft.

Paris Hilton likes yappy hairy rats because they fit in her purse.

You like to have big, tough dogs as...compensation.

There are not practical uses anymore. It's all about how they look. English Bulldogs look tough. That's why it makes a good mascot.

UGA has one Bulldog at a time. I'm not sure how you can blame them for millions of dogs needing homes.

Um, of what? Dog food? Grass? Oxygen? Breeding English Bulldogs has no effect on other breeds of dogs, whatsoever. People can buy or adopt whatever kind of dog they like. That you want to enforce a standard type of dog on everyone makes me think that in addition to being a tree-hugging hippie, you are also a little red. As in, you prefer a hammer and sickle to a cheeseburger.

I want survival of the fittest. If people want English Bulldogs, they should get them. Without interference from the you or the NCAA.


Ram, Ram, Ram, I know I am fighting a loosing battle in this TD but you couldnt be more off base:

Dogs dont have purposes? Dogs herd Cattle all over the world every day. Dogs are widely used in multiple types of hunting including birds (multiple species), ****, deer, boar, etc...... Dogs are used for police work. Dogs are used for search and rescue. Dogs are bought specifically to play with children. Dogs are used for home protection. Dogs are peoples vision and ears. In fact, dogs are as useful today as they have ever been in the history of man.

Point is that I have no issue wiht buying a dog for a purpose. However; the english bulldog has no purpose. It will lay and wheeze for about 8 yrs then kill over. The encouragement of breeding this animal is a waste when the folks who purchase these would better serve the world to adopt a homeless animal.

English Bulldogs look tuff? Yea a 16" dog that I can roll looks tough???

What GA is doing is bad for the future of Dogs. The english bulldog needs to be removed from the Gene pool.


Some dogs are still used for the reasons for which they were first domesticated. However, the vast majority is not (can you tell me what possible purpose there is for a weiner dog?). English Bulldogs look mean because they have large heads and strong jaws. Even if they are all asthmatics breathing with the aid of an Iron Lung, as long as they can look good on a T-shirt they should remain as the mascot.

No one should have the authority to change that. You have not disputed that at all. The NCAA has no business here.

PETA should have no influence here. Or else the only mascots we would have are the Georgia Tulips, and the Tennessee Nimbus Clouds.

Therefore, the only people who should determine the mascot of the University of Georgia are the school administrators and the student body. What they decide is none of your business.

(Unless you think a Georgia fan should tell the Volunteers what their mascot should be)

There are plenty of creatures that need to be removed from the gene pool (including a few FN users), but that is not your, or my, decision to make. If people want the English Bulldog, then it is more fit to survive than your less coveted Pit Bulls.

Smokey is a Bluetick **** Hound, used for **** Hunting which is a very popular sport here in the Southeast. In fact some bloodlines can be valued at over $25,000 per pup to tournament hunters. **** Hunting is a very neat sport where the dogs track and tree the **** while you track the dog through the woods. it is fun as heck and great excercise.

Im glad that is what the breed is meant to do. But again, I have never seen smokey the mascot do anything but pant on the sideline and sleep. Dont get me wrong, I am a huge animal lover and have nothing againts UT's mascot. Just dont think you should throw stones if your in a glass house.

They are genetically garbage and die young. If you look at the health issues of the Bluetick Coonhound there are none.

You even said so yourself in my mascot throwdown hahaha. Where the only thing I ever remeber smokey doing is taking a crap on the sideline at the Florida game a few years ago.
