Who is the Greatest Franchise in NFL History?

This is not that hard to figure out. Who is the Best. Name the Franchise and what they have done since they where est.

My pick is the Green Bay Packers.
If you think dif. then TD.

I know going against all the Packer love on this site is going to be tough but...the Packers may have the most championships of all NFL teams, my choice has been one of the most consistent NFL Franchises in history.....

the New York Football Giants

3 Super Bowls - 1 in the 80s, 1 in the 90s and 1 in the 2000s
4 NFL Championships - 1 in the 20s, 2 in the 30s and 1 in the 50s

Partook in the greatest game ever played against the Colts in 1958.

The Giants also have won the NFL East/NFC 10 times and their division (NFL East/NFC East) 14 times.

Look at the coaches who got their start for the New York Giants - Lombardi, Landry, Parcells.

The Giants also have 15 HOFers who have played for them - including Lawrence Taylor, YA Tittle, Frank Gifford and Fran Tarkenton.

Good choice with the Giants but the Packers have 12 NFL Championships, 8 Conference Championships, 13 Division Championships. Also the Packers are also the only team to win three straight NFL titles, which they did twice (1929-1931 and 1965-67).

The Packers also happen to have which you stated the greatest head coach in NFL history Vince Lombardi. They also have 26 Pro Football Hall of Famers(soon to be 27).

And i beg to differ on your greatest game ever, its was a very great game dont get me wrong but the ice bowl in 1967 for the NFL Championship with the official game-time temperature was ???13??F / ???25??C, with a wind chill around ???48??F / ???44??C. That was and is the Greatest Game ever played period.

From 68 - 96 (the years of the Packers 2nd Super Bowl and their last one) it was a time period of almost 30 years of nothing.....the longest the Giants went without winning any kind of title was just over 20 years....so even though the Packers may have more, the Giants have won more consistently over thier history.

Yes, the Packers had Lombardi as their Coach, but where did he start coaching at - the Giants.

The Ice Bowl was great, but the Giants/Colts 1958 Championship game was the first ever title game to go into overtime and ushered in the rise of the NFL as we know it today. It is widely recognized as the Greatest Game Ever Played by all followers of the NFL (fans and writers alike).

Also, the Giants have one of the founding families of the NFL as their owners - the Maras. Why does Green Bay still have a team today? Because Wellington Mara recognized the need for revenue sharing amongst all teams - he specifically wanted to ensure teams in small-markets like Green Bay would be able to keep their teams as the NFL/AFL was expanding to what we know it as today.

Ok 30 years true they went 30 years without a NFL championship, but you forget the pack went almost 40(39) years winning NFL Championships(1929 to 1968. Just over 20 years for the giants what is it 21, 22, 23,or 25.

True on Vince starting with the Giants, but he made a name for himself with the packers, for example the Lombardi Trophy.

Like i said the Giants/Colts 1958 Championship was great, yeah first overtime thats pretty dam good. But they did not play in the conditions of that game(ice bowl), it is crazy, temp. -13 wind chill -48 let the Soak for a couple of min. does it hurt your bones, b/c it would just standing there, they had to play in it.

Maras thats is good point but the pack have nothing to with him now, its owned by the packer fans, which the packer fans are the best in the nfl.

Basically, all you did was continue to quote the ice bowl and the total number of titles yet did nothing else to show why the Packers are the greatest franchise - more goes into making a great franchise besides winning titles - such as consistency, impact on the league etc.

The Giants have made the playoffs 29 times in their history, the Pack 24. 3 of the titles the Packers won, came when the team with the best winning % was called the Champion (the Giants had 1 that fell into this category).

The Packers while appearing in 12 title games, won 9. The Giants appeared in 15 title games, winning 6.

So yes, the Packers won more, but once again, the Giants were in more....

The Giants, thorughout their history had owners who impacted the game (and revenue sharing is what allowed the packers to keep the team), the Giants have been more consistent throughout their history in winning. And for all the Cowboy/9er/Steeler fans out there - yes, the NFL existed before your teams actually started doing anything in the 70s or 80s so that is why those teams fall just short.

There are only 4 teams up for consideration of greatest - the Pack, the Gmen, the browns and the bears...

Good luck

It's easily the Bengals. You guys are nuts.

Interesting pick stowe. You are begging to get voted against. A - he has the Pack. B - you have Philly/Dallas homers ready to pounce.

In other news, The Staten Island Stapes, who played in my hometown, are the best ever.

at least I'm not accusing him of going for the easy win by picking the team that has the most titles in history.....

I would never accuse a newbie of doing that....

Report Offensive Comment

Don't forget all the steeler lovers who think only history from the 70s through today count (same as the boys fans).

Report Offensive Comment

This very subjective. As a huge Packer fan I would say the Packers but to someone else it would be their team.

Report Offensive Comment

at least the Steeler fans have some history later than the 70s to point to.
The Steelers have been around since 1933 and are 6th in all time wins with 466.

Thanks for voting on his argument of just a name Rabdawg....

Report Offensive Comment

I wouldn't agree that it is subjective at all. There must be some statistical data to back such a claim, otherwise it's just blatant homerism!

Report Offensive Comment

That is a habit for him Rich!

Report Offensive Comment

sorry but the giants...yeah no

Report Offensive Comment

but he better bring some heat to beat the argument

Report Offensive Comment

You will have to explain 1 championship in the last 41 years by the supposed greatest franchise in NFL history! How long can a team rest on accomplishments circa 1967 and older?

Report Offensive Comment

Bears also have history. Browns have a lot, if you ignore anything in the last 20-30 years.

Report Offensive Comment

clearly the Broncos, jk

Report Offensive Comment

I would say the arizona cardinals

Report Offensive Comment

rstowe, clearly, he went for the easy win. You can't pick the most successful team and then declare them the best. Should have clarified that earlier.

Report Offensive Comment

Definitely the Green Bay Packers.

I'll throwdown against anyone with this same throwdown....

Are Husker Fun and Husker Pride the same user?
