I figured the debate would come down to Moss vs Brady

While you obviously can not ignore Brady's astronomical numbers last season, it is impossible to expect him to reach those totals once again. He had some 50 TDs last season, and I believe if he hits 40, that would have to be considered a successful season. But then the question arises as to if that is realy worth the 6th overal pick when you can get a lesser qb in a the mid to even late rounds and fill other holes that are more difficult to fill, such as a stud #1 reciever.

Moss' numbers were also way way higher than any other WR in the league last year which sort of puts him in the Chase Utley category where he is soo much better than any other person at his position that it increases his value exponentially because getting 15 points a game from a wr on a consistent basis with a few 30 point games thrown in here and there immedietely makes you a title contender in any league(I only beat the kid who had Moss last season because Westbrook took a knee on the 1)

I think Brady will fall back to 'normalcy' a little more than Moss as I believe the Pats focus a little more on the run game and Moss is still far and away #1

A lot of this is based on your scoring system as Well.

The reason I would take a QB over the WR is simple

Brady/Peyton - then a dropoff - Brees- Slight Drop - Romo/Matt/Palmer/ - Dropoffs

Moss/Smith/Chad/TO/Wayne/Colston/A. Johnson/not that steep a Drop Fitzgerald/Edwards/Harrison/Burress/Holt etc

My point is simply- There is a HUGE amount of quality WR out there - from a normal year standpoint.

After the top 2 QBs are going- you can forget about (a Xp player) taking a QB for a round at least- unless someone REALLY loves Romo

But how far after Moss does TO and Chad go? half round at MOST?

Fact of the matter is- If Brady don;t throw the Ball- Moss won;t be there to catch it.

and Brady has been a top pick for YEARS- he has a SOLID track record

How many people Had Moss year before last that STILL Curse his name.

OK, well I understand that generally you take the QB over the WR just because the QB always has the ball pretty much. But in this case, the dropoff from Moss to other WRs is much larger than you might think. Moss TDs last season was a good 7 or 8 higher than anyone else. That is an enormous number for a wide reciever. And remember Im basing my argument on value over next available player and valuing a stud WR over a stud QB because QBs like Romo, Garrard, Palmer, Big Ben, Brees all will go round 2-4 and will probably finish relatively close to Brady's numbers this season.

I believe this season Brees, Big Ben, and Palmer will all see increases in production and Brady will see a decrease, while Romo and Manning will stay consistent with last years numbers. This brings Brady back to the pack in terms of fantasy numbers. Meanwhile, I think its save to say TOs best days are behind him, he his now 33 but it is true that Edwards and Wayne I think are primed to put up great, great numbers.

Randy Moss caught almost as many TDs last year as the THREE previous years COMBINED

So he does not have the TRACK RECORD to be great

Moss 13,8,3,23 last 4
TO 14,6,13,15 last 4
SS 12,8,7, last 3
MArvin H 10,15,12,12 last 4 (healthy)
Wayne 12.5.9.10

See a Pretty Huge spread there?

Peyton 49,28,31,31 last 4
(yards ) 4557, 3747, 4397,4040

Brady 28,26,24,50
(yards) 3692,4110,3529,4806

Kinda solid across the board right?

If your top 6 pick busts out 3 Tds- you have LOST
If he tosses 220 Yards per game AND STILL comes in 4th in the NFL in touchdowns (brady 2006)

You can STILL win with that,

When your WORST year in the past 4 seasons is TOP 4 in the NFL

you are a SOLID pick - and lets not forget- Moss has had some STINKERS

But I have NEVER heard a person say- I screwed up when I picked Brady (unless it was Number 1/2 overall)

But I have heard it about Moss, TO, Chad, Marvin. etc

Heck I have SAID it about a couple of them.

Brady over Moss is a must

July 15, 2008  09:54 AM ET

this would be better if it was in order

July 15, 2008  09:57 AM ET

Brady has tons of options to throw to, that means more points. Moss has only one person to catch, less points.

July 15, 2008  09:58 AM ET

AP? Which AP will show up? The 200 yard rusher, or the 17 yard rusher? Call me when he gets consistency before I waste a top 5 pick on him.

July 15, 2008  10:04 AM ET

Dude he pretty much led the NFC in rushing w/o starting half the season....he is a stud

July 15, 2008  10:04 AM ET

i have a good td idean, what is more impressive, tom bradys 2007 season or peyton mannings 2004 season?

July 15, 2008  10:12 AM ET

wouldnt be a bad TD but a person should be able to win that with Brady unless they have no idea how to argue

better arguments on the right.....Moss had a career and historic year that is why he was so far ahead in TDs etc, but who threw him the ball?

July 15, 2008  10:48 AM ET

good call

July 15, 2008  11:19 AM ET

Moss is not a top 6 pick...Brady yes... vote right

Hey, Gruden, you try to run around with a bun knee and a brace on it and see how well you do. he was never completely over it until the Pro-Bowl, and you saw him there, right. Not that it means anything.
