28 (Frank) vs 82 (Stowe) Greatest sports moments witnessed IN PERSON

List only the top 3 you have ever seen in person, we are playing on the honor system here. 1 each argument.

#3.

When: June 2007
Where: AT&T Field Chattanooga TN
Game: Chattanooga Lookouts vs MS Braves
Who: Philip Wellman

As a resident of nearby Dayton, TN (Home of the Scopes Trial) I work Downtown Chattanooga. In fact I am 3 blocks from the stadium. GA Tickets still $3 and cheap beer entice me and a buddy from work to walk down and attend the occasional game. That was just the situation on a warm Friday Night in early June.

I remember it like it was yesterday. Apparently unhappy with the Strike Zone Wellman Freaked out. Wellman was ejected and it appeared he actually bumped the ump. The argument went on for about 20 seconds before Wellman hit the dirt and drew a larger home plate. He then retrieved 3rd base and cordially placed it into center field. He then dropped to his stomach and crawled (basic training style) to the mound. He grabbed the rosin bag like a grenade, pulled the pin with his teeth, and threw it back at the Ump. He then ejected the Ump. Retrieved 2nd base, grabbed 3rd base, blew the crowd a few kisses and retreated through the gate

I take it that the original person you intended this throw down for either backed down or didn't accept it, so I will take a stab.

So we are going to make 3 different memories of sporting things we actually attended. Allright, I can do that. 1 in each argument.

When: May 25th, 1999
Where: Delta Center, Salt Lake City, UT
Game: Game 5 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals
Who: Karl Malone

Being in Idaho Falls, ID it is a 3 hour drive to Salt Lake City to Watch the Jazz. So I only go to about 2-3 games a year because games end late.

Basically the Jazz were facing Elimination and this was the first year after Jordan retired, the man that stopped Malone and Stockton from getting 2 championships the previous 2 years.

Mike Dunleavy, the NBA Coach of the Year, went after the officials following a questionable technical foul was called on Grant. Dunleavy had to be restrained and eventually was ejected. Grant and Malone had to be separated during the FIGHT THAT ENSUED.

"He said he didn't like me and I said I didn't like him," Malone said. "So we established that. We know where each other's coming from and that's the way it is. In the playoffs, you don't have to like me."

My second seems to lack in importance but not greatness.

When: 11/25/07
Place: Soldier Field
Game: Denver vs Chicago

I have been to approximately 15 NFL games and Hundreds of NCAA Games. 1 thing typically lacking in an NFL game are big plays and scoring. Heck I have been to 3 Titans games with under 20 pts scored between both teams.

The first Qtr was defensive with the teams swopping field games. The second Qtr included a Denver TD, and another Field Goal Swop

The second half was where it got fun. Denver stalled and Hester amazingly (he really is faster live) took the punt 75 yrds to tie it up. Then Denver pounded the ball down the field, capped by a sapp TD to regain their TD advantage with under 3 to go in the 3rd. This was followed by another amazing Hester 88 yrd kickoff return to tie it back up. This was followed by a 68yrd Cutler to Marshall TD. 3 TD???s in the final 3 minutes of the 3rd. Denver up 7 the drive early in the 4th for another TD to Sheffler to put Denver up 14. In the Final 5 minutes da bears are able to put up 2 TD drives to send it to overtime where Da Bears won by a fieldgoal.

3 plays of 65 or more and 71 Pts, awesome for NFL

When: November 7th, 2007
Where: Energy Solutions Arena (formerly Delta Center), Salt Lake City, UT
Game: Opening Home Game Night of the 07-08 Jazz Season
Who: Utah Jazz vs Golden State Warriors

This game might not be one of the best events in history but it was important to me because it made my Wife enjoy basketball even more and being married thats very important for your enjoyment because its that much sweeter if you enjoy it together.

After the Jazz beat the Warriors in the Playoffs the previous year this was a rematch that both teams wanted. The Jazz played the Warriors Uptempo style and was way better at it. Deron Williams scored 16 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter and the Utah Jazz beat the Golden State Warriors 133-110 on Saturday night.

With the Jazz holding a six-point lead, Williams made seven of his final eight shots to turn the game into a rout. Utah's 133 points were the most for the team since a 133-124 overtime victory over Minnesota on Nov. 24, 1997.

THIS WAS THE HIGHEST SCORING GAME SINCE 1997 FOR THE JAZZ.

Mehmet Okur scored 28 points and Ronnie Brewer added 19 for the Jazz, who had seven players score in double figures.

September 2004
Neyland Stadium
TN vs Florida

Now I attend all Vols home games and often head out on the road. I typically even attend a non-Vol game on the By week. I often feel that the reason for the SEC's dominance and recruiting advantage is the Fans. SEC Stadiums reach electric levels that make the hair on the back of your neck rise. SEC Stadiums reach electricity levels that make NFL playoff atmospheres pale in comparison. Especially, TN vs Florida. So much greatness, hatred, and respect fill this annual clash its unexplainable.

This year was no different. The game winds down. Florida up by a pt. Florida has it 3rd and long. Tn has no timeouts. Johathan Wade and Dallas Baker confront and trade head slaps. The penalty is called on Baker backing them up 15yrds. The officials fail to restart the clock giving TN much needed time. Florida punts it away. Ainge picks up 64 yrds in 2 passes over the middle, no time outs racing the clock. Wilhoit races onto the field and boots the 50 yrd game winner with 6 seconds remaining.

Of all the Great SEC contests I have witnessed over the years I do feel this battle between Ainge and Leak was the best.

Delta Center
Jordans first return to SLC after the '98 Finals shot

Jordan was back in the building. It was a different outcome this time, though. Jordan returned to the NBA in 01-02 and after 2 months was injured. But he came back in this came from injury.

Karl Malone scored 23 points, and John Stockton had 19 as the Utah Jazz beat the Washington Wizards 94-79 Thursday night in Jordan's first game at the Delta Center since his winning shot in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals.

Jordan hadn't returned to Salt Lake City since one of his most famous moments, when he stepped away (or pushed) from Russell and drilled a 17-footer to give the Chicago Bulls their sixth NBA title.

Jordan retired after that basket, at least until his competitive drive brought him back to play for the Wizards this season. This time, though, there was no championship at stake.

It seemed like a moment of vindication for Russell, who has dodged questions about Jordan's return all season. He claims Jordan pushed him on the shot that ended the 1998 finals, but no foul was called.

There were scattered boos, but most fans stood and cheered. Flash bulbs twinkled whenever he touched the ball.

One of the most amazing things I ever saw in sports was when I was a senior in high school playing basketball. We played a school in the playoffs that only missed two shots in the first half (it was raining 3s for them). One of the shots they missed was a 3/4 court shot at the end of the 1st quarter. They made it at the end of the half though. We were down by almost 30 but what that team did was amazing even though I was on the wrong end of it.

I am interested. I'll google it.

pretty cool idea, i guess my top 4 (i couldn't decide on just 3) would be

1. 2003 NCAA championship game (Jan '04) LSU over Oklahoma
2. 2006 MLB All Star Game
3. 1992 Stanley Cup finals game 1 (the comeback)
4. 2007 Roger Clemens final first game (Yanks vs. Pirates - what makes this special is it was the only time i was at yankee stadium....and we got the tickets in march - well before Rocket ever scheduled his comeback)

Report Offensive Comment

I wont say i was at the superbowl or lie because I know that frank wont, so we will let the fans decide who had the better sports moments. I am a basketball junkie and everyone knows that. So you can guess it will be basketball games I went too.

Thing is, I actually had a chance to go to the Fiesta Bowl when Boise State won that game down in Arizona, it was a miracle once in a lifetime game, but i wasnt there unfortunately. Turned the tickets down.

'92 Broncos v. Oilers October 18th---First time in old Mile High watching Elway and Moon--Elway drives 92 yards in three plays to win with about 10 seconds left. White Noise. Never heard anything louder in my life.
'97 Broncos v. Jags-Wild Card---Broncs roll Jags 41-17. Elway's pic on the Jumbo Tron in the 4th with everyone chanting, "ELWAY! ELWAY!' They went on to win their first SB.

I could have talked about when the Idaho Falls Braves won the title 2 years in a row in the Pioneer League. But they havent been as good since.
