Andrei Arlovski vs Ben Rothwell: Who wins?

I'm betting the house that Andrei wins, either by KO or TKO. The round, I feel, is insignificant. But this will be the return of the Pitbull to his early form, where he would get in there and knock you on your ****.

Arlovski has been training like he has something to prove...which some believe he does. He knows this, and will show you exactly what he's capable of doing to an opponent when motivated. And after his release from UFC, you can bet he wants to show Dana White that he made a mistake in letting him walk. Not only that, Rothwell is part of Tim Sylvia's camp, and everyone knows that Arlovski hates Sylvia. A proper beatdown of Sylvia's training partner would send a clear message to the Maine-iac.

Disagree? Let's have it.

Ok I'll take this one. I could really care less, because everyone fighting on this cards with the exception of Fedor is a UFC flunky. There is a reason the UFC didn't want them anymore. I actually thought Arlovski retired. Anyway, Ben is one bad dude. He totally dominated the IFL. The first time I saw this guy, I thought what a big tub of goo. But I also thought that about Sylvia. I think this one ends in a second round knockout, setting up for the winner of Fedor and Sylvia for the title.

Everyone is a UFC flunky except Fedor? Ok, well then you could say that Fedor wasn't even good enough to be in the UFC. (which isn't true) So I don't get what you are trying to say about these fighters. This card has the top Heavyweights in the world on it. Don't believe me? Sherdog.com is your friend.

Anyways....

But you're right, when I saw Rothwell I thought the same thing. Fat and out of shape. Only thing is, you and I are right. He is fat and out of shape. He uses his size to overwhelm lackluster talent in the IFL. Won't happen to Arlovski.

As you are implying, the UFC has the best fighters, so Rothwell not ever sniffing the UFC gives the advantage to Arlovski. Arlovski has been an UFC champion, with notable wins over Tim Sylvia, Paul Buentello, Febricio Werdum, and Vladimir Matyushenko. That's top of the MMA game according to you.

IFL talent is like AFL or CFL compared to the NFL. I'm sure any of the top UFC Heavys could've done the same thing. If Randy Moss went to play in the AFL or CFL he'd have 150 touchdowns.

Just look at the two fighters. Rothwell looks like something dropped from an elephant, while Arlovski looks like a Greek statue come to life.

Damn I thought that was Arlovski. Todays UFC talent is so much better than the talent of yesteryear obviouslly. Arlovski hasn't sniffed the title since loosing it to Sylvia a couple of years ago. Now I'm not saying Rothwell is contending for a title anytime soon, but he has both heavy hands and a much better ground game then Arlovski. Next he has way more experience than Arlovski, 17 vs 34, and you know as well as I do experience means a lot in this game. Take forrest beating shogun.

Todays UFC talent is so much better than yesteryear? Yeah, and when Jim Brown played in the NFL the talent wasn't as good as it is now. You take anything away from him?

Experience? I'll take the exp you get from fighting top level fighters over the exp of fighting bottom level scrubs any day of the week.

"he has both heavy hands and a much better ground game then Arlovski." Really? Apparently you haven't seen the knockouts delivered by Arlovski, or you wouldn't be saying ignorant things like this. Ground game? Arlovski trains BJJ with a renown coach. He also is a top Sambo Master.

Sambo creds:
Euro Youth Sambo Champion
Master of Sport
International Master of Sport
Silver medal at the Sambo World Cup
Silver medal at the World Sambo Championship

Arlovski has been training with legendary boxing coach Freddie Roach, who has trained the likes of Tyson, DeLa Hoya, and Manny Pacquiao. Andrei already has devastating striking ability. To add a coach like Roach makes him down right scary. He has also been training Brazilian jiu-jitsu with Dino Costeas, and with UFC Legend Randy Couture. Where and how does Rothwell train? Because it looks like he trains at Dunkin' Doughnuts.

I'm glad you finally came back, I guess we did a little bit of research since we last chatted. Look if Arlovski was as good as you say he is, the UFC would have never let him go. He did just fight for them about 3 months ago and they obviously saw that he lacked confidence after Sylvia whooped his ****. Big Ben is a rising star in MMA, but by the looks of it, you have brought all your friends to this fight so I leave with this, lets talk Monday morning and actually see who's right on this one.

Wow this must not be a hot topic, usually there are 2 pages of comments by now, come on people

July 15, 2008  05:30 PM ET

Yeah, alot of FanNation isn't for MMA. Which I think is sad, but whatever. People like what they like.

July 15, 2008  05:56 PM ET

Arlovski. There have been way too many upsets recently, but this won't be a night of upsets.

Arlovski over Rothwell
Fedor over Sylvia

Rizzo vs Barnett is the intriguing match of the evening. Last time they met, there was a HIGHLIGHT reel.

tkirk8: don't you think RobertMenn looks like Arlovski ?!?!?

"RobertMenn: Saw Batman"

The new one? (Dark Knight)

How is it? As good as the 1st one?!

July 15, 2008  06:10 PM ET

Damn, I gotta finish tomorrow. I'm leaving work now.

July 15, 2008  06:12 PM ET

Yeah, Hyped, the new one. Got a sneek peak or whatever you wanna call due to some hookups. But yes, it was freakin' fantastic!! I would give Heath an Oscar for his portrayal of The Joker. One of the best villains of all-time, not just comic book villain. You can't even tell it's him.

July 15, 2008  06:48 PM ET

Arlovski....my favorite heavyweight. No question

July 16, 2008  08:36 AM ET

Come on folks, don't hate big ben just because you've never heard of him

July 16, 2008  12:46 PM ET

uhh I have heard of him, and seen him and thats why i hate on him

July 16, 2008  12:53 PM ET

"I'm glad you finally came back, I guess we did a little bit of research since we last chatted"

Yeah, I left a comment yesterday saying I was leaving work and would finish this tomorrow. Research? None needed. Arlovski is my favorite fighter, so I know pretty much all about him, fight-wise.

"but by the looks of it, you have brought all your friends to this fight"

Huh? What are you talking about? I'd would venture to say that you are losing because you have basically said nothing. This could have easily been closer, if not a win for you. How about mentioning Rothwell's 13 fight win streak? That cross your mind? Guess not.

July 16, 2008  12:56 PM ET

Monday, Monday, Monday, 2nd round knockout, Big Ben fight Fedor for the title, end of discussion

July 16, 2008  12:57 PM ET

I hope Arlovski is back... he looked very hesitant the last two times i saw him fight. he is much better as the aggressor.

July 16, 2008  12:59 PM ET

Title? What title? There is no title for Affliction.

July 16, 2008  01:00 PM ET

still i picked him to win in my line up... my guess is tko round 2... randy will give him a great game plan for this fight. so correct pick and much better arguments to left...

July 16, 2008  01:03 PM ET

And as a little FF (fun fact) for you, The UFC TRIED to sign Arlovski. They never wanted him to go. They were in discussions right after he beat undefeated O'Brien up until the day he signed on to fight in the Affliction card. You can youtube it or whatever. I'm not here to educate you. But basically the UFC wanted to pay him his current contract, and Andrei wanted more. So they agreed to separate. Arlovski said he would prove he was worth the money, and Dana said, okay, if you do, we'll take you back. Probably no in those exact words, but that's the just of the conversation.

July 16, 2008  01:10 PM ET

Better agruements on left...voting left

July 16, 2008  01:18 PM ET

this one is easy. i vote left. the only chance rothwell has is if he gets lucky with a bomb. conditioning plays an important role in this game and rothwell seems to have plenty of room for improvement in that area. andrei has been physically prepared for every fight i've seen him in...this one will be no different.

Robert, actually Fedor and Sylvia are fighting for what is called the WAMMA heavyweight championship. Whatever that is. I think they are calling it the World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts.
