Manny Ramirez should be more feared as a hitter than Albert Pujols.

I was watching the All-Star game yesterday and the announcers suggested that Pujols was the best big hitter in the game. I disagree. Manny Ramirez is the guy who no one wants to pitch to when the game is on the line.

I respectfully disagree. Remember in the playoffs several years ago when Pujols hit that shot of Brad Lidge?? That killed Lidges confidence for a while and he was not the same pitcher for Houston.

Here are some stats:

G: 90 to 82 (Ramirez has played more)

HR: 18 (tie)

RBI: 60 to 50 (Manny)

H: 100 to 96 (Albert0

BB: 61 to 44 (Albert)

SO: 82 to 30 (Manny has more)

TB: 174 to 170 (Albert)

AVG: .350 to .293 (Albert)

SLG: .608 to .518 (Albert)

OBP: .466 to .389 (Albert)

The stats make it pretty clear. Teams would fear Pujols more to to his superior production. Both are great clutch hitters, but Pujols has all around better stts despite playing in less games.

Give me Pujols over Manny when teh game is on the line.

Well, at what point would you be most fearful of either player? The Big Game...the playoffs. Albert Pujols isn't nearly the accomplished postseason hitter as Manny Ramirez

Manny Ramirez Postseason stats: 24 hrs 64 rbi

Pujols postseason: 13 hrs 35 rbi

And how many times does manny win games by himself? Well, at this point he has 7 game-winners

Manny Ramirez age: 36

Albert Pujols age: 28

Ramirez is 8 years older than Pujols. He also plays on a team that is an absolute lock to make the playoffs each year. Pujols does not.

Manny Ramirez Postseason stats: 24 hrs 64 rbi

Pujols postseason: 13 hrs 35 rbi

Those numbers are very impressive for Pujols considering he is 8 yrs younger and has played in the post season alot less than Manny has. Pujols has the ability to hit the pitchers best pitches on a consistent basis. He is also less prone to SO than what Manny is.

Whoaaa...you believe that Pujols is only 28? I think he looks like he's 34, and I think he might come across the same documentation issues that Tejada went through....anything else he might be concealing..hmm??

Anyways, both players are inarguably the best two clutch hitters in Major League baseball. I think Manny is more of a threat to go the opposite way with the ball and he always seems to deliver that game-ending hit (especially in the playoffs: 3 since 2004). Reality is, Manny plays in a much tougher League for pitchers, whereas Albert traditionally goes up against inferior pitching on a nightly basis..until this year when the Brewers and Cubs bulked their respective staffs.

Thats a joke right?

Yeah, because before this year Tampa and Baltimores pitching was great.

Come on dude, but up more effort than that.

yea right what are you stupid

July 16, 2008  12:43 PM ET

I'm a Red Sox fan. But I would MUCH rather pitch to Manny than Pujols at this point.

July 16, 2008  12:45 PM ET

This guy is smoken something good to think Manny is anywhere close to Pujols. Hey on those stats, lets remember Albert sat out 15 games and still leads most of those catagories.

July 16, 2008  12:45 PM ET

This year? Pujols all the way.

July 16, 2008  12:46 PM ET

Yea Manny is a dangerous hitter. He's arguably the best right handed hitter, pure hitter, in the last decade +.

That said...Pujols' judgement at the plate is second to none, and McCarver said it best last night. He hits the best pitchers' best pitches.

Its closer than you think, but yes, Pujols is more dangerous.

July 16, 2008  12:50 PM ET

Pujols is the player I least want to, with the next closed being Hamilton this season.

July 16, 2008  12:54 PM ET

Moon, imagine how much more dangerous Pujols would be if he had Big Papi batting behind him? not to mention a short porch in left. He would start contruction on that wall earlier than expected.

July 16, 2008  01:02 PM ET

Manny is more likely to strikeout than Albert. Albert also gets a lot less protection from the guys batting around him. Vote right.

July 16, 2008  01:04 PM ET

I'm a Sox fan and I love Manny, but Manny's a little past his prime and Pujols is in the thick of his. In my opinion, Albert Pujols is the best hitter in the world

GaretJax | 07/16/08, 12:50 PM

That is very true. Pujols is a workaholic who constantly tries to improve his game. Hamilton is more of a natural in my opinion.

July 16, 2008  01:14 PM ET

Nope. Not yet... not ever. And I love Hanley and the Marlins. Hes my second favorite Marlin next to Uggla and my BY FAR favorite SS in the game so I can say this more biased towards Hanley than Pujols, NOT A CHANCE!

You dont worry about SBs until the hitter gets on base either so thats sorta out of the picture.

July 16, 2008  01:15 PM ET

Hamilton? What will he do with the bases empty? Nothing. All he is is RBIs and thats more team than anything.

July 16, 2008  01:15 PM ET

Manny has more swagger at the plate. Manny has to go up against better pitching and competes in a muc tougher League.

July 16, 2008  01:16 PM ET

Shoot I just saw Ramirez, figured it was about Hanley if you are compaing him to Pujols. Manny is even easier, NOPE!

July 16, 2008  01:18 PM ET

Mannys MUCH easier to K. No one can K Pujols. He is one of the best contact hitters in the game AND a top 10 power hitter. How is Manny more frightening?

God I want this one so bad, vote to the right.

July 16, 2008  02:15 PM ET

Manny is in his 16th season and has played in 2040 games whereas Pujols is in his 8th season and has only played in 1173 games. Your arguments on the postseason stats are ridiculous and you should just go hide under a rock.

July 16, 2008  03:17 PM ET

Even if I weren't a Cards fan, I'd vote right.
