I say it's the Stormin' Mormons of Brigham Young University.

Last year's undefeated champs of the Mountain West Conference, BYU went 11-2 overall with a victory over UCLA in the Las Vegas Bowl to finish the year.

Returning star QB Max Hall, WR Austin Collie, and TE Dennis Pitta on offense, along with a talented batch of incoming recruits on a team that rarely plays them, BYU look to be by far the strongest team outside of the BCS conferences.

BYU returns 10 offensive starters on a team that averaged more than 30 points a game, and the one position where the starter left, the replacement started earlier in his career.

On defense, other than the loss of an All-Conference linebacker, the unit is intact from last year, and Cougars coach Bronco Mendenhall is a defensive guru and should be able to make that unit overachieve, making a BCS run highly probable.

BYU has a BCS-conducive schedule as well. The matchups against the Pac-10 are against a Washington team that hasn't been much since Rick Neuheisel left, and a UCLA team that won't be anything until Rick Neuheisel gets some recruits, so they'll carry some weight to the computers but won't be too hard for the Cougars to win.

Ill go out on a limb and pick Appalachian State

App State is a non bcs school who has won three straight FCS champions which shows that they they are a big threat to the BCS. Even last year there was talk after the Michigan game that FCS schools should be included in the bcs system and thill creat a stir once again after they beat the defending Nation Title Winning LSUTigers

The Mountaineers have won the title in each of the past three years mainly because of Edwards who is one of the best qbs in all of college football. Last year he completed 67 percent of his passes for 1948 yards and 17 tds but thats just part of his greatness. Edwards is the best rushing qb the game has ever seen which explains his 237 carries for 1588 yards and 21 tds. He has a great arm and terrific touch yet he still averaged 6.7 yards per carry which by any standard is incredible. Once he gets going the whole team goes on a role and wins

Also App State returns its whole defensive line and linebackers which will be helped by an extra year of experience and apply a ton of pressure making the opposing qbs job harder

With Edwards leading the way theres no stopping App State, the bcs will never be the same..

App State lost their best receiver in Dexter Jackson. He was the one who ran roughshod over the Michigan defense. He was the one that made all of the catches. He was their best player. He ended up being Tampa Bay's second round pick.

You saying that they're going to beat Louisiana State is ludicrous, by the way. People had questioned the defense of Michigan because they had lost 9 starters. LSU's returning more than that and they do a better job recruiting than Lloyd Carr did in Michigan.

You're saying that Armanti Edwards is "the best rushing qb the game has ever seen"? Come on. Have you ever heard of Eric Crouch? Terry Baker? Paul Hornung? Yeah. You're wrong.

It defeats the point of the Football CHAMPIONSHIP Subdivision to put them in a BOWL game, that's what the Football BOWL Subdivision is for. If App State wants to make a bowl, make the transition to the top tier of college football.

BYU's QB is just as talented as Edwards is, and has a HISTORY of performing well against GOOD opposition. Edwards has one game against a down and out Michigan defense, a win that didn't look so shocking after Oregon absolutely destroyed Michigan the next week.

Good luck.

Is Provo in the running for ESPN's "Titletown"? If not, I vote right.

July 16, 2008  03:27 PM ET

You have absolutely no idea how much this pains me.

July 16, 2008  05:21 PM ET

If I only get one vote I wont be surprised, you made a great pick hemo couldnt find a FBS non BCS team that was better then App State

July 16, 2008  05:23 PM ET

You couldn't get a Fresno State or TCU?

July 16, 2008  05:24 PM ET

Fresno St. probably would be a good pick. They have a chance to beat Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, Rutgers, and those are all just on their nonconference schedule.

July 16, 2008  05:25 PM ET

Central Florida, Tulsa???

July 16, 2008  05:25 PM ET

Florida Atlantic could also be argued for. They could finish 10-2 if they do well in their conference, and they could even pull off a win over Texas

July 16, 2008  05:30 PM ET

Vote right. Not because he made a good selection, but because I can't stop laughing at the BYU pick.

July 16, 2008  05:31 PM ET

I would have picked Tulsa.

July 16, 2008  05:44 PM ET

But gotta go with the one that is actually a division 1A school.

There in the wac which is a bcs conference

July 16, 2008  05:47 PM ET

my bad, was thinking of someone else

July 16, 2008  05:48 PM ET

One game can make a season and App State has one that not many other non bcs schools have

July 16, 2008  05:57 PM ET

The only BCS conferences are the SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Big East, Pac 10, and the ACC, so the WAC is not a BCS conference.

July 17, 2008  02:56 PM ET

I would think that App. St. has a snowball's chance in he11 of making the BCS championship game since they'll play in their own league's playoffs. "BCS threat" means to me that a non-BCS conference school, e.g any WAC, MWC, Sun Belt, C-USC, or MAC teams, might make the championship.

July 17, 2008  06:41 PM ET

BCS Threat, what will happen when app state beats LSU, the whole sytemwill go up in even bigger flames

July 22, 2008  11:38 AM ET

Ok, I was thinking along the lines of BCS buster, but I can see how BCS threat is different.
