First off, I would like to state that I did not make this throwdown with the intentions of an easy win. As a matter of fact, I expect the complete opposite, considering the moves the Clippers have made so far during the offseason.
I believe that the Lakers are still the best NBA team in Los Angeles. Sure, the Clippers have made some incredible moves this summer, but the Lakers still have the better team.
Why? Let me remind you that the Lakers are the defending Western Conference Champions. The Clippers do not really have any accolades worthy enough to mention (do they have any?). Plus, the Lakers reached the NBA Finals without a 13ppg 10rpg 2bpg Center in Andrew Bynum.
Starting Lineups:
LAL LAC
PG- Derek Fisher Baron Davis
SG- Kobe Bryant Cuttino Mobley
SF- Lamar Odom Al Thornton
PF- Pau Gasol Chris Kaman
C- Andrew Bynum Marcus Camby
Lakers have edge here.
Bench: As far as the bench goes, the Lakers have the more depth here. Although they will probably lose Turiaf to the Warriors, they are still a very solid bench. LAL's bench was amongst the top 5 last year in the league no doubt.

I will say this. If the Clippers add Iguodala or somebody from free agency w/ star appeal then yes they are better. Baron Davis creates and can score. That's great for a point guard. Kamen had mad rebounds and leadership w/ Brand out last year. Marcus Camby brings great Defense and Al Thorton averaged more then rookie of the year runner up Al Horford in the points department. The Lakers were impressive all season till the Finals. I'm not saying the Clippers are better than the WEst champs but we all have seen declines in the champs of a conference or league. Dallas vs the Miami Heat was a big drop off. Baron Davis is excited to go to the clippers and people sobbing over Brand have already gotten over it or should. Baron Davis is a top point guard in the league. Davis w/ the Warriors as an 8 seed against Dallas a couple years back was phenomenal. If i lose votes is because Davis is underappreciated. Kobe is the man and mvp but La needs another player. Their D was awful against Boston. Hints the reason they want Ron Artest. Lets put it this way the Clippers are making some serious moves minus Brand. The LA rivalry is a LOT MORE HEATED NOW. Kobe should be a little worried.

Okay, your argument is based on a acquisition that might not even happen. As a matter of fact, I truely doubt will happen. The Clippers are now about 1 million dollars of going over the Salary Cap, and let me tell you that 1 million will not be enough to get you a star.
As for the Lakers, I am very sure they will not fall. Yes, dallas had a fall, but this theory prooves false once you state the San Antonio Spurs, or even the Lakers a few years back. They played most of last season without Bynum. Now he is back. Im guessing this will only make the Lakers more of a threat, and increases their chances of going back to the NBA Finals for revenge.
You said Kobe needs another player. You also said the Clippers need another player. As of now, no parties have gotten that 'other player' so as it stands, Los Angeles is still Lakers property. Lakers will have Bynum back, more experience, and their Chemistry will be well intact if no major moves are made.
The rivalry is more heated, but the Lakers still have the better team.

If the Clippers gel then WATCH OUT. Baron Davis has made the Warriors legitimate. I gurantee they woudn't have been the same without him. So Bynum is good and all but the Laker's will have to find that fire again. They were VERY dissappointed of losing the finals. We all saw Kobe is not in the MJ comparison list anymore or at least not LEADER WISE. Clippers are doing BIG THINGS. The Staples Center is NOT RULED by the Lakers anymore. Watchout for a full season of great health from the Clippers. They could be very dangerous. Also, Clippers bench isn't too shabby either. Tim Thomas, "Air" Gordan and Brevin Knight. The Lakers are better on paper but will have to see how they do the Clippers gel in mid December or January. Kobe needs help even if they won the western confernce. Baron Davis is MVP caliber when healthy and going. TRUST ME
MH7KiNG said 07/17, 04:09 PM
Yes, If any team 'gels' then you better watch out. Just like Portland had their run last year.
And, every single team in the NBA will have to find that 'fire' again. Oh, and which team wouldn't be dissapointed after losing the NBA Finals?
Then, you go on and state Kobe isn't in the MJ region anymore. Okay, thank you for clearing that up. BUT then you go on and say "Air" Gordon!?
Does Eric really deserve that MJ comparison more than Kobe Bryant? Don't think so.
But regardless of how well the Clippers might 'gel' in mid December or January, the Lakers will be a force to be reckoned with from the start. Now that is something the Clippers can't say themselves.
Staples Center belongs to the Lakers. Los Angeles belongs to the Lakers. California belongs to the Los Angeles Lakers. The entire West Coast belongs to the Lakers. The NBA and the East coast belongs to.....the Celtics (hate saying that). But this is all to remind you the the Lakers are the defending WC Champs, and Davis nor Camby will change that. None of that. The Lakers are going into this season looking for redemption. Something they will get. Kobe isnt MVP caliber. HE IS MVP.
And the Lakers are still the KiNGS of L.A.

You speak of this one....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ0Oo4ye5vQ
Anyway, about this Lakers Vs. Clippers......... Im standing by the Lakers. The Clips got some good moves but its a wait & see thing. As for the Lakers well, they got a team that only needs a defensive patch and bam you got a team that fixes itself from this 08 season.

If this wasn't an attempt at an "easy win" you'd have gone Clippers. There is no way the voting swings the Clippers way after the Lakers just went to the finals and the Clippers lost Maggette. Those teams are worlds apart even if they do play in the same building.

I've been a Clipper fan for awhile. It would be nice to see the LA Clippers as Staples Center' main attraction. But so far it's been a fantasy. Hard to vote on this one. The established Vs. The Potential. Leaning toward the purple & yellow.

Wow, really, I always thought the Clippers were bigger than the Lakers, I mean its not as if the Lakers have the most succesful franchise in the western conference, or they have tons of celebs fill out their games, or that they have the reigning MVP. I mean the Clippers, they used to have Darius Miles

Mr. Cowboy, I would never side with the Clippers. Once a Lakers Fan, always a Lakers Fan. I was just defending the Lakers, because I knew someone out there might have thought that the Clippers were now the better team.
Plus the Clippers didnt just lose Maggette. They also lost Brand, but gained Davis and Camby.
