No one should ever leave an all star (MLB game) game early. A player should only be allowed to leave if under certain circumstances.

Charity Event
Family Emergency
Wife expecting Baby
Injury or illness

if u want to leave u should be able to leave no one is able to stop u and there shouldnt be rules about it

As an all star you should have the obligation to stay and cheer and support for your league. If this game did not mean anything, then i would understand. But this game determines who has home field advantage in the world series.

Players should care enough to stay and watch their team.

An example is Alex Rodriguez. He should of stayed no matter what.
Reasons why he should of stayed:
1. This was the final all star game at Yankee Stadium.
2. Mariano Rivera was yet to pitch
3. The American League had the chance to win home field advantage (at the time he left)
4. The fans picked him to be an all star and he should appreciate that enought o stay the entire game

He thinks that he is all that. When it comes to skill he is, but when it comes to himself he can be very selfish at times. What he did last night was selfish and showed that he only cared about himself AT THAT MOMENT.

it is an exhibition game and it doesn't really mean much the yankees dont have much of a chance to go to the world series anyway plus he couldnt go back into the game even if he wanted to, if he stayed all he would do is sit on the bench so he had the right to leave there shouldn't be any rule

1. This was the final all star game at Yankee Stadium

that is kinda overrated there will be last allstar games at every stadium sure babe ruth played there but that is history

2. Mariano Rivera was yet to pitch

ya arod was probably disapointed since he only gets to see mariano rivera pitch like all the time they are on the same team

3. The American League had the chance to win home field advantage (at the time he left)

and they did and he couldn't do anything about the game anymore

4. The fans picked him to be an all star and he should appreciate that enought o stay the entire game

the fans picked him to play in the allstar game the didn'rt really care if he didnt stay on the bench the fans didn't vote for him to stay on the bench

there is no problem for what arod did, you should be allowed to leave at your freel will if you already played

That was the final all star game at the historic yankee stadium. Worse, AROD left early to go to a party. AROD invited some select yankees, but no one showed up (even jeter and rivera). He told the media that he had to go to a party and the party did not even start until after the all star game ended.

This was not an exhibition game.

It had an ending, it had a score, the game meant something, and their were umpires to officiate the game.

Also, the Yankees had the best record after the all star break the last 3 years. They have a 60 percent chance to make the playoffs in my opinion. And they have a good chance to make it to the world series if they make the playoffs.

He should not of left eh all star game early just to go and set up his party. HE TOLD THE MEDIA THAT WAS WHAT HE WAS DOING.

"What he did last night was selfish and showed that he only cared about himself AT THAT MOMENT."

And you know this how, exactly? You are absolutely certain that there WASN'T a family emergency or that there WASN'T an injury or illness? You are passing judgment without having the first clue WHY he left. Not only that, but who cares? Would you have been happy if he went into the clubhouse to watch the rest of the game while icing or getting treatment like MANY players do, instead of leaving the park? Exactly what difference does it make?

ARE YOU DONE NOW Nolan Adair* BS ?

July 17, 2008  01:15 AM ET

"1. This was the final all star game at Yankee Stadium."

So? Arod gets to play there all the time.

"2. Mariano Rivera was yet to pitch"

So? Arod gets to see Mo pitch all the time. Does Mo pitch better when ARod is in the building, or something?

"3. The American League had the chance to win home field advantage (at the time he left)"

And once he left the game, he had no bearing on the outcome. His being there or not being there wasn't going to make a difference either way.

"4. The fans picked him to be an all star and he should appreciate that enought o stay the entire game"

Why? He played, he was pulled from the game, he was done. What, you want him to stay in the dugout for fans to gawk at, or something just because they voted for him?

You seem to keep getting opponents with no ability to debate this with you so I figure I'd at least challenge you in the comments. ;-)

For the record, if ARod did this in a REAL game, I'd be right there with you criticizing the guy. The White Sox cut a pitcher for pulling that. Sammy Sosa pretty much punched his ticket out of Chicago for pulling it in the last game of the season, too. But this wasn't a real game, it was an exhibition game. He met his obligations and went home.

You also have to remember this 4 day break is the only real time off players get all season. The All-Stars don't even get that. They play on Sunday fly to the All-Star venue on Sunday night. Deal with media all day and must attend the HR contest on Monday. More media and then the game on Tuesday. More media, then Travel on Wed. Have Thursday to themselves except for traveling to meet their team at their next venue and back to work on Friday. Yeah, they make a lot of money, but they have precious little time off.

thats fine - I kept reposting this trying to get someone to actually challenge me

AROD told the media that he was just going home. He did not have a family emergency because according to his wife they are no longer a family.

What I mean is that Mariano Rivera is a Yankees legend and AROD should of been their for him.

That could of been the last big game at Yankee stadium. They might miss out on the playoffs and stuff.

July 17, 2008  01:29 AM ET

This is an exhibition game, but it means more than an exhibition game.

I would understand him leaving if this game was not deciding who got home field advantage in the world series.

I hope that you understand where I am coming from

"What I mean is that Mariano Rivera is a Yankees legend and AROD should of been their for him. "

For what? They're teammates, not lovers. Rivera needs emotional support to do his job? Baseball teams aren't just one big happy family, ya know. For all we know, ARod and Rivera have never spoken two words to each other, might even despise each other. The whole "be there for him" thing is kinda silly. I'd suggest you read the book "The Bronx Zoo" by Sparky Lyle about the 1978 Yankees. It might give you some insight into what REALLY goes on in locker rooms. That team was full of players who literally HATED each other, literally fought each other. They also won a World Series together.

July 17, 2008  01:37 AM ET

"I would understand him leaving if this game was not deciding who got home field advantage in the world series."

Do you know how they USED to determine home field advantage? It alternated between leagues every year. That was just as stupid as letting the A.S. game determine it. Either way, ARod staying or leaving wasn't going to affect the outcome of the game.

July 17, 2008  07:20 AM ET

"For the record, if ARod did this in a REAL game, I'd be right there with you criticizing the guy"

Lets define a real game.

1. One that has an ending-Check
2. One that score is kept-Check
3. One that is played with major leaguers- Check
4. One that counts-Check

And dont argue number four, because you know it counts.

1. He was a major part of the festivities. He should stay and be honored like he was.
2. Its called team support. Friendship. You stay and watch your buddy play in a game where he was also honored.
3. Why do YOU go to game? Better yet, why do you cheer for a team? SO YOU CAN HELP THEM WIN! Thats the point he is making.
4. The fans honored him. Showed respect to him. Why? Because they thought he was one of the best players and want to see him play in the All Star game with other top players. He has to show the same respect back.

July 17, 2008  09:14 AM ET

why create 2 TDs on the exact same topic?

July 17, 2008  11:38 AM ET

Both of these dude's arguments suck A**, but I'm going to vote <----------------- because he dosn't talk like he is a cast member off of Boys in the Hood........

July 17, 2008  09:50 PM ET

the reason I argued two of the same topics is because I wanted to have someone actually argue against me, not just do one liners

July 18, 2008  10:43 PM ET

why did you use my argument for yours
