Was the Camby trade to the Clippers good for the nuggets?

No, they are losing their best defensive player on block shots and he's a big guy and the Clippers already have Kaaman. The Clippers are going to be a good team this year based on this trade. Their Defense is going to be outstanding now they need to work on offense. So once again no the trade was not good for the Nuggets.

ok Let me ask you some questions

1) Were the Nuggets competative this year for an NBA title?
Yes they won 50 games, and yes they were exciting. But the answer sadly is NO. there is NO way that the Nuggets had a Legit shot at beating the Spurs, Lakers or even the Suns in a seven game series.
- So a change was needed

2) the Nuggets had the FOURTH highest payroll in the NBA last year, Did you know that? and they had NO cap flexability at ALL- no trade exceptions, nothing- any young players coming up- GONE unless they took a Minimum deal.

3. Camby is 36- and was due MONSTER cash the next two years. How much longer do you think he was going to go?

-- now all that being said- Yes I think they should have gotten more than a swap of picks for him ( JORDAN FAILURE No 371 - the Bobcats have cap space and 2 second round picks next year)

But you can see making this trade -From a Certain point of veiw.

Yea but even if they didnt have a chance in the playloffs they were al least close and now that they gave up Camby there defense is going to suck and they are going to do worse. Yea they got iverson and anthony but who is going to take Cambys place on defense?.! Yea Iverson may have a lot of steals in a game who is going to block shots?! Maybe the Nuggets won 50 games last year they wont get to that many this year because of what happened to their defense giving up Camby.! Something to think about is how are you going to win without a good defense even though you have a good offense

Even if the Camby trade cost them 3 games, 5 games or even 9 games and they go 41-41

And? they Still go out round one- and barely make the playoffs- and they WILL be worse next year WITH camby- as they lost J.R. Smith THIS year - since ANY team with a Mid exception will be able to pay him more than the Nuggets will

and Camby reaches 37, AI to 34- another year older and deeper in debt.

oh and since you are STILL WAY over the cap say good bye to these players- since NO ONE will take Camby NOW

Anthony Carter
Steven Hunter
Bobby Jones

-- So you are losing ALL your depth, and replacing them with Minimum guys and 1st round picks in the Mid-Teens.

Next year say good bye to

Chucky Atkins
Kenyon Martin

-- and THEN AI turns 35 and Camby 38. and you can start to rebuild- and how long do you think Carmelo is going to stick around this process? Lebron has a Finals trip, Wade a Ring and Bosh is getting a team rebuilt for him.

The West HAS a superstar that can;t get out of the first round already.

yea they may make the playoffs but will they pass the first round no. The thing about the playoffs is people think if you have a good offense you are going to do good. I am not saying that a good offense is bad i am just saying that in order to win you need to have a good defense. Just ask michael jordan, larry bird some of the greatest of them all will say that you cant win without a good defense!!!!!

From the Denver Post:

Denver received the right to swap second-round picks in the 2010 draft, but the main reasons for the deal were to get Camby's salary off the books and receive a $10 million trade exception, which the Nuggets can use to make a deal within the next year. The exception allows the Nuggets to acquire a player or players with contracts totaling $10 million and offer nothing more than a draft pick.

-- How does this matter?

WHo do you think the Nuggets can get for 10 million in Free Agentcy?

2009 List

Mike Bibby
Glen Davis
Raymond Felton
Richard Hamilton
Rasheed Wallace
Al Harrington
Bobby Jackson
Lamar Odom
Shawn Marion
Rashad McCants
David Lee
Nate Robinson
Hedo Turkoglu
Channing Frye
Martell Webster
Carlos Boozer
Jarron Collins
Jason Hart
Kyle Korver
Mehmet Okur

So lets say Denver picks up Webster, Glen Davis and David Lee -and they could VERY easily fit under 10 Million-

I would think that is a VERY BIG upgrade for losing Camby for a year.

You mentioned Larry Bird

At first glance the trade is bad for the Nuggetts, but for the reasons David listed, it was necesary.
