Which Detroit Tiger should have made the All-Star Game?

This year, the Tigers only had one All-Star and that one player was Carlos Guillen. I think that Miguel Cabrera should have made the All-Star Game instead.

I know, I know, he got off to a bad start and everyone remembers him for that but lately, he has been doing excellent. He hit two walk-off home runs in the past month and he has raised his batting average up to .288. He also has 57 runs batted in which puts him on pace for 99 runs batted in at the end of the season.

Cabrera has meant a lot to the team's success lately. When he has good games (he has had a lot in the past month), the Tigers usually do very good. He has also done very good fielding-wise at first base since he made the switch from third to first this season.

A reason why Carlos Guillen played the All-Star Game was because Terry Francona liked that he could play different positions. He only played one position at third base, where he normally plays. Plus, Guillen can play a lot of different positions but none of them well.

Guillen is hitting under .300 with less than ten home runs and less than 50 runs batetd in. Cabrera's stats:

.288, 16 HR, 57 RBI, 43 R, .489 SLG

Looks like All-Star stats

I agree that Carlos Guillen should not have made the All-Star Game but I don't agree on your Miguel Cabrera choice. I think that Curtis Granderson should have made the one spot reserved on the All-Star team for a Tiger.

Granderson was injured for the first few weeks of the season but he pulled himself back together when he started playing. He is hitting .292, ten home runs and 33 runs batted in not to mention his six stolen bases which isn't too shabby. He also has just 51 strikeouts, a huge improvement from last year.

You mentioned that Miggy helps the offense run. I believe this is Granderson's job. Detroit's offense slumped at the beginning of the season and when Granderson came back, the offense started to do very well. The Tigers are over ten games under .500 without Granderson.

Miguel Cabrera has had his hot streaks but Granderson has had good stats as well, amazing fielding and he has helped keep the offense running.

Curtis Granderson has never made the All-Star Game in his career so what makes you think that he should make it after just a mediocre year this year?

Miguel Cabrera has been on a major tear in the few weeks right before the All-Star Break. He had a slugging percentage of over .600 while batting .300. When you are on such a hot streak, that should be something to make the All-Star Game.

Curtis Granderson doesn't make the offense run. He slumped all the way down to .220 average maybe three or four weeks ago. At that time, the Tigers were winning like crazy and they were on a hot streak. I don't see how hitting .220 helps the offense run.

Miguel Cabrera makes the offense run. When he has a good game, the Tigers usually win so he must mean a lot to his team. Also, Miggy has been clutch lately, hitting two walk-off home runs!

Granderson has been very inconsistent and he isn't making all the big plays that he made last year. Cabrera has improved his fielding at first base and just Thursday night, he made a very good play on a bad throw from Brandon Inge.

Miggy deserved that plane ticket to New York.

Forfeited Turn

I don't have much to argue if you are going to forfeit your turn . . . just read my second argument . . . I guess

Being that they HAD to take someone, and Miggy has been just dreadful (for him) in the first half, I can't blame that choice being made. I'll see what follows.

Justin Verlander for his awesome turnaround

Armando Gallaraga.

What's funny is someone did a TD before the season predicting a minimum of 6 Tigers would be selected and as many as 8.

I thought they were going to have 2 or 3

Well I automatically figured Verlander, Cabrera, Guillen, and Granderson would get in. Boy was I proved wrong. They have stunk. I still say they win the division. Just my personal belief. The Sox didnt bury them when they could have.
