Defend yourself

SUCKS to be a Jets fan nowadays (well, actually, its always sucked to be a Jets fan)
NYGiantsSBXLIICHAMPS | 07/18/08, 02:53 AM

The Jets are one of only 17 teams to win a super bowl

We arent bandwagoners, which shows why we still sell out even when were bad

Whats better then Fireman ed giving us the signal and screaming J-E-T-S JETS JETS

The New York Sack Exchange - They sacked the qb so much that the NFL decided to make it a stat without them it still may not be one today

Curtis Martin - One of the most underrated running backs of all time he played hard day in, day out and was a great team player with great attitude

So what we went 4-12 last year, every team has its ups and downs and even when there a bad team, us Jet fans will always be supporting them and having a good time which shows that is does not suck to be a Jets fan

Yes, the Jets are one of 17 teams to win a Super Bowl, but too bad it hasn't happened since 1969! The Jets haven't even REACHED a Super Bowl since 1969, where as 11 out of the other 16 teams have made it to the final weekend of the season.

The Jets have reached just TWO AFC Championship Games since their Super Bowl from the 60's, and in those games they lost by 13 and 14 points.

The New York Sack Exchange should obviously belong to last seasons New York Giants, it actually won them a Super Bowl, not to mention shut down the highest scoring offense in NFL history by sacking the league MVP 5 times. How many Super Bowls did the Sack Exchange bring the Jets?

Well congrats on not being bandwagoners, Giants fans are quite loyal themselves. I mean of course some people jumped on the bandwagon after that incredible postseason run the Giants had, but they were probably Jet fans anyways.

Yeah Curtis Martin was pretty good, but the Giants have had Frank Gifford, Michael Strahan, Harry Carson, and only arguably the greatest LB of ALL TIME in L.T. And you know what all these players have that Curtis Martin can only dream about now, thats right, a Super Bowl ring.

No Jets fans would ever leave there team. Yes we did bad, yet we still sold out every game which is incredible and shows that were loyal fans. Even when we went 1-15 in 96 everyone was still at the games and showing there support. Plus the year later then went 9-6 so who says after a 4-12 season we cant have a good season we did it as recently as 05 so theres still a lot of hope and we had the best offseason on anyone in the NFL, hard to top Fanaca, Pace, and a few others on top of an amazing draft

I never said the Giants didnt have good players(my uncle played with ) but the Jets had a lot to and deserve more credit

In 81 the sack exchange had 66 sacks all together to the giants 53 this year(Joe Klecko and Mark Gastineau each had 20 sacks better then Osi and Mike) just to point that out

The atmosphere before Jets games is the best there is, being with other fans that are like your second bother or sisters throwing the football around and booing Chad then screaming J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS theres nothing better

It doesnt matter if your team has some bad years as long as you have a good time then youll memories that will last you a life time which all of us jets fans have

People have turned this throwdown into being about "true fans", it isn't about that. This throwdown is about why it sucks to be a Jet fan right now and throughout history

It sucks right now because the Giants are the reigning Super Bowl champions, coming off a historic, monumental victory over the Patriots that almost trumps the Jets win over the Colts.

It also sucks they are the only team in the NFL to play in a stadium named after ANOTHER TEAM! How embarrising is that. The Jets play in GIANTS stadium. I would find it humiliating if that were reversed.

Those off season pick ups will help out your o-line and defense, it won't however change who lines up behind center next season. Your choices are the flimsy armed, injury prone Chad Pennington, or the inexperienced Kellen Clemens who did not show any signs of greatness last season.

And I don't know just how loyal you Jets fans are. I tuned into the Jets Chiefs season finale and I'd be generous in saying that half the stadium was filled.

Onto those lifetime of memories, are you talking about the zero championship seasons more than half of Jet fans have experienced, or clutch moments like Doug Brien against Pittsburgh

Forfeited Turn

See, even a "loyal" Jets fan cannot come up with 3 arguments as to why it dosent suck to be a Jets fan.

Even JGB admitted it below, even though he said he would always be a Jet fan he admitted that it sucks being a Jets fan.

The Jets have won just 3 playoff games going back to the early 90's. Just go give you an idea, the Panthers, who have been around since 1996, have won 5 playoff games, and have been to just as many Super Bowls as a Jets team that's been around for over 40 years.

The Jets are also to blame for springing Tom Brady onto the league. In week 2 of the '01 season, the Jets knocked Drew Bledsoe out of the game with an injury, in comes Tom Brady, and since then he's beaten the Jets 11 out of 13 meetings, while winning the AFC East 7 out of 8 years, not to mention 3 Super Bowls. So in turn, Jets fans have only their own team to blame for the constant domination the Patriots have had over the Jets.

In conclusion, I have listed reasons why it sucks to root for the Jets. The Jets play in GIANTS stadium, they havent even reached a Super Bowl since the 60s, and with Brady and the Pats in the AFC East, the Jets wont even win their own division for years to come

Is this a TD or a blog idea????????

BLOG

July 18, 2008  10:21 AM ET

i dont know, but i know alex is gonna be a hick about it so i am voting left.

July 18, 2008  10:21 AM ET

yeah it does, however you make a decent argument lets see what the other side does

"The Jets are one of only 17 teams to win a super bowl" - Yea almost 40 years ago! January 1969!

"Whats better then Fireman ed giving us the signal and screaming J-E-T-S JETS JETS" - A Jets player that isn't in a wheel chair hoisting the Lambardi Trophy.

The New York Sack Exchange - This was 30+ years ago!?!

Curtis Martin - Retired and never again saw the Superbowl after heading south to East Rutherford!

A fan has to be 50 years-old or better to remember Jets glory. If you are happy with your team, that's great but from the outside looking in, you have to admit it isn't a pretty picture.

BTW - By definition, there can not be Jets Band Wagon fans!

Thanks for voting on arguments.

July 18, 2008  11:23 AM ET

I don't care if I lose your vote because of this, but who just got humiliated by their rivals by 39 points and got embarrisinglly outplayed in the NBA Finals last month, not to mention the biggest collapse in Finals history in Staples? Yeah, I'd say it sucks to be a Laker fan this summer.

July 18, 2008  11:29 AM ET

It never sucks to be a fan and support any team of your choice.

July 18, 2008  11:44 AM ET

i dont understand how it sucks to be a fan of ANY TEAM. many teams have never even been to the big show but that doesn't mean it sucks to support them. im not voting because this is a pretty lame TD

July 18, 2008  12:07 PM ET

The Jets are only 1 of half the teams in the NFL that have won a Super Bowl. 40 years ago. And that is why it sucks to be a Jets fan...nowadays. It'll take 5 more years to recover from the damage left behind by ole Herm.

Your right. It sucks to be a fan of a team that made it to the Finals.

July 18, 2008  12:09 PM ET

It sucks to be a fan of a team whose QB is named ELI

July 18, 2008  12:14 PM ET

^ Not even close. I'd take Eli every time over a QB who always falters in the big spots, most notably the playoffs. Just shut up 662, Eli went to Dallas, outplayed Romo, then went on to win Super Bowl XLII MVP. You can't talk any **** you jealous, bitter Cowgirl fan

So you think Savage is right, that it sucks to be a fan of the Super Bowl champions? Your just being a hypocrite

July 18, 2008  12:16 PM ET

I don't see how being a Giants fan is relevant. Either it sucks to be a Jets fan or it doesn't.

After round 1, I'm leaning left.

July 18, 2008  12:22 PM ET

I don't care about any other part of this argument, because it SUCKS to be a Jets fan nowadays. So since it does, in fact, suck to be a Jets fan....well nothing else matters.

1. Ownership won't hire quality coaches.
2. Ownership won't spend the money to bring in top quality free agents.
3. Management couldn't draft a winner if they had the power to go back in time 3 years and change their pick.
4. Ownership won't build your team its own stadium, and plays in the stadium named after the better team in the city.
5. Ownership won't even try to design a uniform that is even slightly respectable.
6. Again, because its worth repeating.....the team plays its home games in GIANTS Stadium.
7. Had to watch the parade....for the Giants.
8. Have to face the Patriots twice every year.

July 18, 2008  12:24 PM ET

9. The NEW YORK Jets play home games in New Jersey.
10. Quarterback can't lift a fork for dinner, let alone throw a decent pass without crying.
11. Best running back.....doesn't exist.
12. I quit. These are too easy.

July 18, 2008  12:33 PM ET

I dont need to defend Romo, but it seems to me you need to defend ELI...I dont blame you though. He might as well be wearing a jersey that sayd DILFER on the back..

July 18, 2008  12:37 PM ET

Just a question. Did it suck to be a Jets fan when Kotite was the coach? Or did you think he was a genius?

July 18, 2008  12:38 PM ET

Well its not that you don't need to, its that you CAN'T! He has ended the Cowboys season TWO seasons in a row, while Eli has a brand new ring. Romo might as well switch into a Dan Marino jersey, only he won't put up half the numbers he did or become half the QB he was. Sorry 662, I win, you lose, just like the Cowboys did to the Giants.
