If you want to TD about Nascar thats great. If you dont like Nascar dont click into the TD.

Whether it is or is not a sport is strictly a matter of opinion and is more worn out than Brady vs Manning.

The next person to participate in that TD either way should be banned from FN.

End of story.

I can think of at least five people who have done far more worse offenses and haven't been banned. I believe their are only two or three things that will actually get you banned and debating the merits of NASCAR and motorsports in general is not one of them. I agree it's almost as worn out as the Brady Manning debate (can we just all agree to disagree people)

I think what's worse is when you have two folks actually arguing a NASCAR TD and then some jackhole comes in and says something like "NASCAR sucks" "NASCAR is lame" or something along those lines , its like look you can see the topic, if you don't want to participate in a discussion of NASCAR then don't, however some folks on here excerise ZERO self control.

For instance I stay away from most NBA debates, why? Because everythign in the playoffs before this season probably was marred with officiating problems, every once in a while I will stick my head in, but just because I dont LOVE it doesn't mean I should run my trap if I don't know whats going on.

you calling me a hipocrite? well that may be so

dosent change anything though, the next person to do it should be banned, made an example of

I don;t see how I was calling you a hungr hungry hippocrite? I didn't use those words, what's the deal with everyone on here putting words in folks mouths. If you can quote me saying where I called you a hipocrite I will forfeit right now, I never used those words.

So now your calling me a liar???

point is, im tired of the is Nascar a sport or not argument???? heck people cant even read a definition and even if the could people cant agree.

next person deleted

I just want to point out that on my way to work, with a stop at the doctor for an appointment, I made both right and left hand turns. Am I an athlete?

July 18, 2008  01:30 PM ET

If you can smoke and drink while doing it, it is not a sport.

I love golf, but one can smoke and drink while playing. It is a great recreational activity, but not a sport. Bowling is not a sport, and before you say I am anti-bowling, I want to point out I have my own ball, shoes and accessories. Poker, not a sport. Billiards, not a sport. NASCAR, while enjoyable for many, it is not a sport.

July 18, 2008  01:36 PM ET

1.
a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
b. A particular form of this activity.
2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
3. An active pastime; recreation.

NASCAR meets all those

July 18, 2008  01:36 PM ET

Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. Sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determiner of the outcome (winning or losing), but the term is also used to include activities such as mind sports (a common name for some card games and board games with little to no element of chance) and motor sports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors.

Let's use your definition of sport, which probably came from an online dictionary somewhere. Regardless, the definition sounds legit.

1a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. b. A particular form of this activity.
2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and oftern undertaken competitively.
3. An active pasttime; recreation.

Is NASCAR recreation. Yes, and it is enjoyable to watch, no doubt about it. But one thing the definitions all have in common is the phrase or derivation of such, "Physical activity" or "exertion." NASCAR drivers get hot and sweaty, and it is draining, but not due to the physical exertion, but due to the safety devices worn by the drivers. NASCAR meets all the other definitions, rules, governance, customs, even skill, but fails to meet the actual physical activity of the whole deal.

July 18, 2008  02:39 PM ET

hahah you go try telling richard petty it wasnt hard when they didnt have a HANS device...seriously though its exhausting, you ever driven 500 miles? you ever done it at 190 mph, with 20 other dudes baning around you...then you cant say its not a sport just cause your opinion is that it isnt a sport, its classified as a MOTORSPORT...

July 18, 2008  02:44 PM ET

Try telling Dale Earnhardt it isn't a sport. He'd go all halo on your arss

July 18, 2008  02:45 PM ET

i've already been through it, the driver isn't the athlete, the car does the work...not a sport

July 18, 2008  02:46 PM ET

Basketball players are the whiniest players out of any sport, flopping all the time, they could not even fathom the pressure of driving in a race
