Who will advance further in the playoffs in 08, the Giants or the Cowboys

I know I'm going to get A LOT of **** for this and most likely get voted against by the seemingless countless amount of Cowboy homers, but this was a friendly challenge so I'll accept it.

Even though the Giants are the defending Super Bowl Champs and beat 3 of the best teams in the NFL on the way to the title (at 13-3 Dallas, at 13-3 Green Bay, and most notably beating the 18-0 Pats), they get almost no respect. I've seen people say they'll finish 8-8, and have other "quality" teams like the Saints and Panthers make the playoffs over them, but I'm here to say that not only will the Giants make the playoffs, but they'll advance further than the Cowboys.

I know that Dallas is seen as a lock to win the NFC East, but the division is more up for grabs than it seems. The two Dallas- Giant regular season games had the Giants down by less than a touchdown in the 4th, and then the Giants went to Dallas in the playoffs and dropped Romo's record to 0-2 in the playoffs.

Don't be mistaken by last season, the Cowboys SHOULD have been 11-5 last year, with miracle wins in Buffalo and Detroit helping them achieve their lofty 13-3 record.

Out of room, will continue next argument

The Cowboys have improved their defense by very much this offseason, so much that some people say that they had the best offseason by any team in the NFL. They got CB "Adam" Jones, a cornerback that was one of the top CBs in the league before being suspended. I don't think he will return to old form, but he will certainly not hurt the defense, and will probably improve it alot. They also got LB Zach Thomas, the smartest player on defense, as voted on by the NFL owners. They also drafted a CB out of South Florida, Mike Jenkins.

On the offensive side of the ball, they got rid of Julius Jones, and drafted Felix Jones, a player who complements MB3's running game. That brings up another player. Marion Barber III. This will be his first year as a fulltime starter, and is expected to be big. Tony Romo will have another big year this year, and the 'Boys also gave T.O. a big extension. Romo and T.O. will be a big part of the Boys sucess, for they are like other QB-WR tandems Brady & Moss, Palmer and "Ocho Cinco", Manning and Wayne/Harrison.

Out of room, will argue Romo VS Eli next.

The Cowboys did sign a lot of players, but I don't see them making the team all that much improved. Pacman (excuse me, Adam) Jones hasn't played an NFL game in nearly 18 months, and he isn't even a lock to start. Zach Thomas put up monster number on an extremely bad Dolphins team, but he is getting up there in the years, and who knows if he'll have that much of an impact on a more talented Dallas linebacking core.

The Giants have been criticised for all of the "losses" they took in the offseason, especially on the defense. The notable losses the Giants had were Strahan, Gibril Wilson, and Kawika Mitchell, all good players, but the Giants have new players all set to take over for their respective positions. Justin Tuck will fill in for Strahan, and after seeing him last year (especially in the Super Bowl), the Giants shouldn't be losing too much production. At LB, the Giants will be getting Mathias Kiwanuka back to fill in for Mitchell, another position where the Giants shouldn't be too affected. To solve the missing void at safety, the Giants drafted Kenny Phillips in the first round, so we will wait and see how he will do there.

Out of room, I will continue in next argument

Romo was better than Manning in every catergory except longest rush, where he had 17 and Manning had 18, Rushing 1st downs, where he had 1 less than Manning, and % of rushes for first down. So, Romo beat Manning in every passing catergory, even though he had less attempts. He will be the one to take his team to the Super Bowl.

I think Zach Thomas will have a very good impact on the already good linebacker core. This year's defense has improved, with the likes of Adam Jones, Zach Thomas, and Mike Jenkins.

Romo did have the better season statistically, but Romo's problem has never been production in the regular season. The past two years Romo has played like the back up he used to be in December and January, and twice now he has played against secondaries featuring players that were just picked off the street in the playoffs and failed to drop over 20 points in either game. This isn't about who will put up better numbers, cause Romo has done that, especially last year, this is about who will advance further in the playoffs, and what makes ANYBODY so sure the postseason winless combo of Romo and Phillips will ensure even a playoff win this season?

The Giants however, they've proven they can pull through when all the chips are on the table, including going to Dallas and knocking off the Cowboys in last years playoffs.

Bottom line, both teams have pretty easy schedules and barring a huge injury both will be in the playoffs. No matter how much talent Dallas has, you really have to question this team's toughness. When the games get too close, especially late in the season, Dallas falters. You saw it in Romo's fumbled snap in Seattle, and you saw it in the entire team last year.

Now that you brought up that fumbled snap in Seattle, i will adress that. On every replay, that ball look shiny, as if there was a substance on there that was put there to make Romo fumble.

"and twice now he has played against secondaries featuring players that were just picked off the street in the playoffs and failed to drop over 20 points in either game"

you would consider the Giants's secondary picked up off the street? wow, shows what kind of fan you. And anyways, i dont think that anyone in the NFL is just "picked up off the streets."

I think the Cowboys will make it farther into the playoffs because they have improved their D alot.

As they always say, the third times the charm, and this is the Cowboys year to goo the Super Bowl. They have too good of a team to "choke" in the playoffs.

The Boyz have not won a playoff game in what 13 years ????? I gotta go with the Skins

July 18, 2008  08:18 PM ET

Let's see...in the Offseason the Cowboys improved offensively and defensively improving on a team that went 13-3 a year ago and had 13 pro bowl players all of whom are returning.

In the Offseason the Giants suffered key losses on defense and did nothing to improve a horrible secondary. On offense they have key players who are disgruntled with their role and/or contract hurting a team that went 10-6 a year ago and almost certainly can't repeat a 7-1 road record.

There is no guarantee the Giants will even MAKE the playoffs, let alone advance in them.

"The Boyz have not won a playoff game in what 13 years ?"

What does that have to do with anything? Do you really think something that happened 13 years ago has an impact on this year?

"I gotta go with the Skins"

That's a joke, right?

"Don't be mistaken by last season, the Cowboys SHOULD have been 11-5 last year, with miracle wins in Buffalo and Detroit helping them achieve their lofty 13-3 record. "

BULLSHlT!

I HATE it when people say this. It is so untrue. Let me make a point here: A team ALWAYS deserves to win a game if they win, with the ONLY exception being if the refs screwed them over.

How was Buffalo a MIRACLE WIN??? Romo threw 5 picks, yet Buffalo didn't put the game away. So, it is labeled a "miracle" because the Dallas defense excelled and the Buffalo offense floundered? The Cowboys won (hell, they won that game twice! LOL) fair and square, therefore they deserved to win.

Same with Detroit. Everyone acts like that was a miracle game because they were expected to win big, but didn't win until the end. Guess what? If it weren't for a goal-line fumble, the Cowboys would have taken the lead several minutes earlier. How you can HONESTLY say they didn't deserve to win simply because the winning points came with like 15 second left is far beyond me. So now we're supposed to say Detroit SHOULD HAVE won because the Dallas O took better advantage of the Detroit D than the Detroit O took of the Dallas D?

Come on. Dallas outscored and outgained the Bills by a wide margin. They were also way more efficient on 3rd downs.
They were outgained by Detroit, but barely, and actually had MORE yards per play. Since they outscored Detroit, the difference in yards was negligible. I mean, come on. With 14 minutes left in the 4th quarter, they score was 27-21 in favor of Detroit. How is that game a miracle??? Because they scored a single touchdown in 14 minutes? Gimme a break, and stop talking sh/it outta yer ****.

"Justin Tuck will fill in for Strahan, and after seeing him last year (especially in the Super Bowl), the Giants shouldn't be losing too much production."

Yeah, except for 9.5 sacks and a Hall of Famer. You Giants fans are blinded by logic0 Tuck is, yes, as good as Strahan was last year. However, how do you replace TUCK?

If you pretend Tuck steps in and replaces Michael Strahan, then what happens to the 10 sacks Tuck brought? What about that awesome speed dimension up the middle that was the REAL reason the Giants' pass rush was so deadly? The Giants are not wounded by Strahan's loss- they're wounded by Tuck having to replace Strahan, and having no replacement for Tuck.
