For the magazine of your choice please choose one that covers almost all sports and not just one that covers one particular sport. For me personally, the best sports magazine is ESPN The Magazine.

They have a section for every major sport there is, they've got sports personalities Stephen A. Smith, Kenny Mayne, and Mike and Mike, and they have all the news of the current time. I used to get Sports Illustrated, but now without a doubt ESPN The Magazine is 1000 times better. The first issue I got had 120 pages in it, while SI usually has around 70 pages per magazine. It also doesn't hurt that ESPN The Magazine now has Rick Reilly, my favorite sports writer, writing the back page of the magazine.

I was going to go with Sports Illustrated but since someone named it instead I will take the magazine known as

The Sporting News

Sporting News has been around since the year 1886 and it now covers the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, Nascar, college basketball and football as well as some minor coverage of a number of other sports. It runs a weekly magazine based on the coverage of sports and it also puts out very popular fantasy sports magazines and also Street and Smith and Sporting News have become one so they also have maybe the most popular yearbook and preview magazine for each sport

I've read The Sporting News before I think, and it was ok. I read recently that the guides that The Sporting News use to put out for each sport have ceased to existence, which is a shame. My first college football magazine was a Sporting News edition, but looking backed it lacked a lot of information that more magazines (like ESPN The Magazine) have now.

I can't make someone who doesn't like ESPN the Magazine like it, but I've gotten so addicted to reading every page of it because, to me, it's a breath of fresh air from reading the same old SI every week. Heck, I still believe the main reason I kept getting SI for the last two years was just to read Rick Reilly's column, but now that he and Steve Rushin are gone, it's not worth getting anymore.

Not sure where you read that sporting news is not making guides but if you and I are thinking of the same things Im pretty sure you have been informed wrong. Sporting News has taken over Street and Smith which Im sure most people have heard of and well here you can read about it here

https://www.streetandsmiths.com/

Personally as for your mention of SI well I am still a big SI fan but the thing I like about Sporting News is that you can get a different one each week. So you got 52 issues a year then on top of that you can get the fantasy sports guides and the guides for each sport before the season where they break down schedules and teams and make predictions and all.

Sporting News is one of the more organized and better written magazines out there when it comes to sports. Also I like when they do things like how they did the 100 greatest players for football and things like that.

Forfeited Turn

dang I had hopes that this would be another TD where the person actually posted in 3 arguments.

Well what else can I say Sporting has news

1) better written articles in my opinion
2) better up to date coverage of whats going on in the leagues
3) has been doing it for longer at a higher quality

I mean honestly I could go on and on but since my opponent didnt feel the need to post a 3rd argument I wont spend much more time on this one.

Sporting News is just better and its as simple as that

ESPN is a jumbled mess of garbage

July 19, 2008  04:13 PM ET

nobody name anything Im typing my argument now

July 19, 2008  04:30 PM ET

I agree that its sporting news, they cover anything in a formated way instead of spending half your time looking for the cover article which is the only good part of espn mag

July 19, 2008  04:30 PM ET

But if GF can come up with an amazing arguement then ill reconsider

July 19, 2008  04:33 PM ET

ill reconsider the fact we are on a SI website and we should mind what we say.

The Onion: Sports Section.

No competition. Technically its a paper. But its amazing.

July 19, 2008  04:49 PM ET

Sports Illustrated is far and away the best. Sportignews is decent, and ESPN absolutely sucks

July 19, 2008  05:03 PM ET

SI is crap, i dont care that this is a website run by them, no nascar equals no vote

Any sports section that claims John Gruden wants to sign Cooper Manning as a QB is my favorite....

im going with the "TV GUIDE" it tells me who is playing who and when to sit down in front of the TV or when to belly up to the bar and watch the games.

It involves a lot less time... it is unbiased and never lies

it knows what you want and it provides.

Hands Down, End of Story, And it's Not Even Close!!!

tv guide is highly overrated I prefer my direct tv menu guide its much easier to read and look through

July 19, 2008  08:19 PM ET

SI is really poorly written. It seems that every issue is the same.

July 19, 2008  08:27 PM ET

The Sporting News is the most comprehensive sports magazine and has been for well over 100 years.

July 19, 2008  08:35 PM ET

SI gets the big edge on the quality of their photography.

July 19, 2008  09:16 PM ET

Rick Reilly was a beast! He was hilarious!

July 19, 2008  09:16 PM ET

direct TV guide is much easier, i agree w/ chosen 1

July 19, 2008  09:17 PM ET

I will say this, every year I grab an ESPN Fantasy Football guide or whatever you call 'em.

They're quite useful in my opinion.
