The Giants do not deserve more respect.

I challenged you directly, because you are a blind homer.

They had a Cinderella story going through the play-offs, beating the Cowboys, the Packers, and the undefeated Patriots. But look at the real deal.

They are the worst Super Bowl champion. EVER. Teams are good when they won the Super Bowl. I will take an example from this decade. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They had the best defense, and offense, that year when they won, which the only team that came close was the Oakland Raiders.

They were only top ten in one category this year. They were clearly not very good.

The Buc's Super Bowl season stats had them leading in two categorys; Passing YPG, and Defense YPG.

The Giants did not lead in any category in the year they won the Super Bowl. Yeah, they had a Cinderella story, but it does not compare to what other teams have done, and how good they were.

"beating the Cowboys, the Packers, and the undefeated Patriots."

I took that straight out of your first argument. Those 3 teams combined lost just 6 games all year, yet the Giants beat all 3 of them on the road. They played in -23 windchill in the NFC Championship Game and defeated Brett Favre in Lambau in the postseason, where the Packers have lost just twice in the Super Bowl era.

And if thats not enough, the Giants took down Brady, Moss, Belichick, and the 18-0 Patriots in the Super Bowl. They held the most potent offense in NFL history to just 14 points in a dome, Eli lead the team on an 83 yard drive to win the Super Bowl and the Giants became the first and only team to beat the Patriots in 2007, as well as handing Brady and Belichick their first ever losses in a Super Bowl.

The Giants faced the top 3 offenses in the NFL and yielded just 51 points to them in 3 games, just 17 points a game. Eli had a 6:1 TD-INT ratio in the playoffs, throwing less interceptions than Brady, Peyton, Favre, and Romo in the playoffs while playing in more games than ALL of them.

I don't see where the 02 Bucs fit into this throwdown, but I can argue that as well in my next argument

"And if thats not enough, the Giants took down Brady, Moss, Belichick, and the 18-0 Patriots in the Super Bowl."

And it also helps that Brady had an injured ankle, and was still playing on it, even though it was sprained. The Giants got off easy. Not against the Cowboys and Packers, but against the Patriots.

"I don't see where the 02 Bucs fit into this throwdown, but I can argue that as well in my next argument"

They fit into this throwdown because they are an example of how much better they were the year they won the Super Bowl. Unlike the Giants, they were a first seed, and didn't have as much losses. Yeah, they won it where it counts.

But it was luck. And now you have them complaining about no respect? They are respected now. What I am saying in this throwdown is that they don't need any more respect than they already have.

There are tons of more teams, and players, that deserve more respect, and there are teams that are totally over-rated, like the Giants.

"The Giants got off easy. Not against the Cowboys and Packers, but against the Patriots"

Oh really, you think the Giants caught a huge break when they had to play an undefeated team in the Super Bowl, a team with statistically the greatest offense of all time, as well as a team that features arguably the best QB, coach, and WR in the NFL today. Even with a gimpy ankle, I guarentee the Pats would have still beaten any other NFC playoff team, but the Giants great pass rush exposed that weakness even further. Yeah, the Giants really had it easy in the Super Bowl, 18-0 teams are terrible.

Onto your '02 Bucs, who were the TWO seed, not the one seed, even I remember when they won in Philly, some fan you are. Like I said, that team had a great defense, but lets not pretend their offense was anything special. Brad Johnson at QB, Michael Pittman at RB, and Keyshawn Johnson as your best WR, some great group. I'd easily take Eli, Jacobs, Burress, and the entire Giants offense over Tampa's offense.

And please, the Giants get almost no respect, I've seen many predictions that have them missing the playoffs, finishing 8-8, even power rankings that have them as far down as 17th.

"And please, the Giants get almost no respect, I've seen many predictions that have them missing the playoffs, finishing 8-8, even power rankings that have them as far down as 17th."

I wonder why?

The Giants are a mediocre team, that got off easy. Last year was Romo's first season as a full-time starter, and his first time trying to carry a team through the play-offs. Brett Favre is becoming an old geezer, so yeah, beating a 40 year old man really isn't that impressive. He's good, but old.

The ankle hurt Brady. It's not like when you trip, and your mom has to come and clean it up, and kiss it all better. The Super Bowl was no walk in the park for him. The defense of the Giants was pretty overwhelming, especially for him with a hurt ankle.

I would take the Bucs 2002 offense over the Giants offense. Keyshawn Johnson is probably going to be a future hall of famer. Brad Johnson was in his prime. So was Michael Pittman. And then add that great defense. Remember, Defense wins championships.

Period. The Giants are getting WAY more respect than they should be getting. They're good, but not that good.

"The Giants got off easy. Not against the Cowboys and Packers"

"Last year was Romo's first season as a full-time starter, and his first time trying to carry a team through the play-offs. Brett Favre is becoming an old geezer, so yeah, beating a 40 year old man really isn't that impressive."

These two statements were both in your previous arguments. In your first argument you state that the Giants had a tough test against the Cowboys and Packers, but had it easy against the undefeated Patriots. After I argued that ridiculous notion, you make the above statement, saying Romo was inexperienced, as well as saying beating a 40 year old isn't impressive. Last I checked, Romo was in a playoff game just one year before, and Favre had his best season in a decade in '07. You can't even stay correct or consistant in 3 measly arguments.

If beating the Cowboys, Packers, and Patriots were so easy, how come those 3 teams lost just 6 games combined, and that includes the Pats beating Dallas and the Cowboys beating the Pack. It takes a little more than just luck to beat 3 straight great teams, including a historic one in the Super Bowl.

Oh man, this could get ugly. I don't know how you can call the Giants the worst Superbowl champs ever, You say they just got hot at the right time? Well that's what football is all about. It doesn't matter if you never lose previously in the year. If you don't play your best when it counts, you aren't the best team. That's what I love about the NFL. Anybody can beat anybody, and nothing is a given.

Football is about more than regular season stats, Bucmaster. You're gonna really need to bring it to win this.

July 20, 2008  02:24 PM ET

Strong arguments on both sides...could be a good one.

July 20, 2008  02:25 PM ET

The Giants are the defending champs and that is good for them and they earned their ring BUT that season is over. Let's look back to the last team to take 3 straight road games and then win the Super Bowl....

The 2005 Steelers, guess who watched the playoffs from their couches the next season....

What you did last year don't mean SHlT....

July 20, 2008  02:26 PM ET

Harris, who would you say was the worst Super Bowl champion?

July 20, 2008  02:35 PM ET

^ With all due respect nickb, the Steelers are still the only team in NFL history to have played in a season after winning all 3 games on the road to win a Super Bowl, so I wouldn't judge the Giants upcoming season because of that

July 20, 2008  02:36 PM ET

First - The Patriots played the Giants in Giant Stadium (regular season)

Second - Both teams were on "the Road" for the SuperBowl (no credit there)

Third - The Giants didn't (as you stated) take down Brady. If I remember right Brady had a high ankle sprain, not an excuse, just a fact. If Brady was 100% healthy no way Giants win.

Fourth - Giants win on a "lucky" catch!!!!!!!!!!

I will however give them repsect, but not MORE than they already have.

Will wait for second arguments.

July 20, 2008  02:36 PM ET

I don't believe they are the worst SB Champion ever.
They however were very inconsistent.

The Ravens might be the "worst" ever, because of that offense they had in 2000. The defense however is maybe the greatest of all time.

Tampa might be too

July 20, 2008  02:38 PM ET

Crap, Buc's in a TD w/ a disgruntled Giants fan......can u say, "cage match"? lol

July 20, 2008  02:41 PM ET

Bucmaster...I'm sorry man...but the first argument really wasnt making much sense. Its not that I'm a Giants fan. You were just going in so many directions there.

I'm not a blind homer, but I do happen to think the Giants should get more respect. Alot of people like to bring up 'luck'...which bothers me alot. Luck would entail every team in their way losing a major player or their plane crashing so they had to forfeit. Thats freak of nature type stuff.

Did they get hot at the right time? Yes. But lets cool it on the other rhetoric.

July 20, 2008  02:41 PM ET

"Second - Both teams were on "the Road" for the SuperBowl (no credit there) "
if i remember, there were many more people rooting for the Pats

July 20, 2008  02:47 PM ET

Harris, who would you say was the worst Super Bowl champion?
nickb23 | 07/20/08, 02:26 PM

Truthfully, I don't know. I'm having a hard time thinking of any team to win the Superbowl that you could call the worst. But I think when you look at a Giants team that beat an 18-0 team that everybody was calling one of the greatest teams ever assembled, I don't see how you can say they're the worse.

I'm not saying the Giants are the best team ever, or that they'll repeat next year. All I'm saying is they played their BEST when it mattered, and that's what football is all about.

July 20, 2008  03:08 PM ET

I think that the '02 Pats were probably the worst team talent-wise to ever win a SB. Not that they were a bad team (obviously) but they were mediocre during the regular season and needed a LOT of help to get through the playoffs.

July 20, 2008  03:08 PM ET

NYGiantsSBXLIICHAMPS | 07/20/08, 02:35 PM

It is the prescedent that was set. The Giants barely squezzed into the playoffs and while they may have caught lightning in a bottle at the right time, NO ONE is guaranteed a playoff spot and respect is of NO importance when it comes right down to it. They still have to play the games and hope that regular season Eli doesn't show back up.

I have TD'ed this with the PIMP and it was a close call.

July 20, 2008  03:17 PM ET

...or maybe the '69 Jets. Tough to compare the two though.

July 20, 2008  03:33 PM ET

Why are you so upset ?
And I'd rather be the WORST SB champ than the best NON-Champ anyday of the week

I don't like the Giants- but you have to give them credit for beating all the teams in their way
- they are the champs until next Feb....

July 20, 2008  03:46 PM ET

I say the 69' Jets were the worst super bowl champs

Doesn't mean they were the home team........on the road is on the road.
I still don't think the Giants are being disrepected.

July 20, 2008  03:58 PM ET

"Fourth - Giants win on a "lucky" catch!!!!!!!!!!"

You said this ONE HOUR AGO, sounds very disrespectful to me

July 20, 2008  04:12 PM ET

i vpte right! you can say what you want but the bottom line is this team, won three games on the road, and beat one of the most talented teams ever, in the superbowl. The giants also had a week secondary and still managed to accomplish what they did. (spagnola baby- thats eagles right there!) They derserve more respect then i see them getting. I alot of people can say it was luck, it was this, it was that, but the bottom line is they won, and the road they took to do it was only accomplished by one other team!
