Baghdatis IS BACK!!! said 07/20, 11:12 PM
Hey guys I AM BACK!!!
STATE FIRST AND ARGUE LATER
Anyways the catigory would be BEST TEAM
the nominees were
Super Bowl: Giants Over Patriots
Ncaa Men's Basketball Championship: Kansas Over Memphis
Nba Finals, Game 4: Celtics Over Lakers
I would ADD Federer vs. Nadal Wimbledon.
Yes I do know that the Nominees had already been selected and this match was to late but that it what i would have had.
Bigdleech said 07/20, 11:21 PM
Well, I would also choose Nadal over Federer. But I would place it in a different category. I would put it in best upset. I don't think you can give it to Nadal, because he wouldn't be considered a team. Maybe best athlete, but not best team.
Baghdatis IS BACK!!! said 07/20, 11:29 PM
oops it was suppost to be BEST GAME. Sorry
And Best Upset would fit Nadal and Federer match but you knew this match was going to happen.
But the way this game happened was amazing and it would go as Best Game
I would pick Best Upset if Nadal beat Federer 6-0 6-0 6-0 or something like that,
But this was Best game becasue of the drama when Nadal won going to stand to see his parents and the Prince and Princess of Spain.
And the Game was a 5 setter and Federer holding on for dear life and Nadal keeping on pushing him.
That is why I would put this in Best Game than Best Upset
Bigdleech said 07/20, 11:41 PM
We did know it was going to happen. But Nadal has never been able to take a game from Federer on grass. Even Federer has taken one from Nadal on clay.
Federer went into the match winning 40 straight matches at Wimbledon, meaning that he had won five straight Wimbledon finals. Federer is, if not the best all around ever, probably the best of all time on grass, at the very least. And no one thinks of Nadal as an all time great. Federer isn't exactly past his prime, either.
A 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 win wouldn't have been a true upset. And upset has to go down to the wire, which this set did. What made it an even bigger upset was that Nadal took the first two sets, and then was tied at two sets after four. He lost the momentum, but he was still able to mount the upset in the fifth.
Federer was really playing at his best that fifth set. Nadal couldn't do anything on Federer's serve until the game that he was finally able to upset him.
Federer-Nadal as a game was great for tennis. But it wasn't a great game compared to football, and other big time American sports. It would have had no chance, considering this is an American award cerimony.
Baghdatis IS BACK!!! said 07/21, 10:43 AM
I should aslo add that a upset in a final is when like a unseeded player beat a seeded player.. like if Tsonga beat Djokovic. The consistently heartstopping 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-7 (8-10), 9-7 with Nadal dropping to the ground with his arms outstretched in celebration. If this is not your definition of a Best Game and only a best upset than please tell me your definition of a Best Game.
You said "Federer-Nadal as a game was great for tennis. But it wasn't a great game compared to football, and other big time American sports. It would have had no chance, considering this is an American award cerimony. "
Yes certainly this game was great for tennis but still it woulf probably not win because of the Super Bowl. But if would Definitly be a contender.
This game was the longest grand Slam Match ever. What does that tell you about the Best Game and not Best Upset.
Bigdleech said 07/21, 08:49 PM
I loved this match, no doubt about that. Some people say that it was the greatest tennis match ever. But it wasn't. You know why a lot of people say that? Because the people that say that have never really taken time to watch a real tennis match. You could argue that there were better matches in Wimbledon this season.
You need to realize there are a limited amount of nominations for each award. Sure, it was a great game, but it wasn't on the level of other games.
Who says a two over a one can't be a massive upset? He may be the second best right now, but Federer is the best ever. Nadal did what no one else had done is six years. Now you can't tell me that that isn't a huge upset.

Based on two things, I am voting right.
1. The 'best team' to 'best game' switch (honest mistake I know...but it colors the arguments)
2. The excellent point that ESPN is an 'American' network...with an American Awards ceremony...and there were no Americans in the match. (If this was Agassi, or Sampras, or hell, even Roddick or Blake.... different story)

Bigdleech: "Because the people that say that have never really taken time to watch a real tennis match. "
So true. And I'm wondering how MANY matches these people have watched. How many years. One? Two? Too many tweeners on this site... yet I am addicted to some of the stupidity I see. Like a car wreck. I can't help but look.
And I thought the ESPY's were pretty fun. Useless, but fun.

The ESPY's are for the athletes. That's all. ESPN itself is for the athletes. The ESPY's are crap.

I'm so sick of pple's obsession with the NFL and Tiger Woods. The Giants were not the biggest underdogs. I mean they almost beat the Pats in the last week of the season, and they have comparable talent. App State vs. Michigan was the biggest upset. Different levels of play, different levels of talent, history vs. obscurity. The Giants were probably the least underdogish (if I can make that a term) of the whole group. It's just that the NFL or TIger wins every category.
As to Tiger: 1. HE'S NOT AN ATHLETE!!!! He may be great, but put him in any other sport and he couldn't begin to even compete. I could name several athletes that you could interchange between basketball, football, and baseball and they'd do well. Heck even soccer players probably. I mean Ginobili flops like one. 2. His championship performance wasn't the best. Well I guess it depends on your definition. I mean it was gritty, but honestly he didn't play that well. He was very up and down. 3. He's hurt and at home, why doesn't the brat have the dignity to at least send in a recorded thank you for the awards he won. I mean seriously, what else are you doing? You could be at the friggin' awards ceremony. He does whatever he wants and pple still love him. I swear he could take a dump on Michael Wilbon's face and Wilbon would still tell us how amazing his is and how it was the most masterful dump ever taken.
