I have to say Caddyshack is the best sports movie. Even though some don't consider golf a sport, this movie makes it one.
Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase to name a few. Dangerfield IS the father of comedy. Murray and Chase perfected the art.
This movie was absolutely hilarious.
Something is wrong with you if you don't laugh at this.

You know, I love the movie. Great comedy. Although, when you think about it, it isn't actually considered a sports movie. The AFI considers it a comedy.
Anyway, my choice would have to be Raging Bull. It doesn't get as much respect as other movies, because it is a black and white film about boxing. But everything in it is pure brilliance.
It was directed by the absolute genius Martin Scorsese, and it stars one of the greatest actors of all time in Robert De Niro, in what was arguably the best performance of his great career. It was a nominee for best picture and best director, which it probably should have won. You can't say that about Caddyshack. It did win two Academy Awards, including De Niro's best actor award.
There is nothing bad about the film. The acting, writing, and general plot are all simply better than that of Caddyshack.
And as irrelevant as this might be, the AFI ranked the movie as the fourth best of all time. That includes all American movies, not just sports movies.
There was nothing wrong with the movie. Everything about it was superior to Caddyshack.
It may not be "funny", but it is a real movie. It is great without having to pull stupid stunts
Undefeated: Wow Fat Phil said 07/20, 10:37 PM
Caddyshack didn't have good acting or writing? Of course comedies have little if no plot.
Harold Ramis was one the greatest directors of all-time. You don't get better comedic actors than with Dangerfield, Murray, and Chase.
Sorry Bigd. I can't help myself. I am dying to post this.
Best scene of a movie all-time. This was completely improvised by Murray.
Bigdleech said 07/20, 10:47 PM
I didn't say it didn't have very good actors. It just wasn't of the quality that Raging Bull had.
Ramis was a good director, but Scorsese has shown time and time again that he is one of the best of all time, and clearly better than Ramis.
It did have great actors for a comedy. But I would take a great ensemble in an action or drama film easily over a group of comedic actors. The best actors in comedies, like Bill Murray, are nothing compared to actors like De Niro, Brando, and Pacino. That is why they are never mentioned in conversations about the greatest actors ever.
You can't just throw out a pair of clips and expect them to do your talking for you. The second one is a very good scene, but the two best scenes in the movie in your opinion do not make up for the fact that Raging Bull is stronger throughout. Even the one you posted wasn't close to the best scene in the movie. And 1:18 of a movie can never make up for the other movie having two hours of better, well, everything.
Undefeated: Wow Fat Phil said 07/21, 03:40 PM
There is really not an argument to make. I have named the actors, now it is up to the fans to decide what movie they enjoyed more.
Another clip for your fancy:
Dangerfield at his best.
Bigdleech said 07/21, 07:23 PM
Clips don't say everything about a movie. A lot of people wouldn't consider Blades of Glory a great movie, but it still had clips that you could plug in to make it look better than it is. Clips don't say that much about a movie.
You can have the the five greatest comedic actors of all time(maybe one in the movie), and it still doesn't make up for the best performance ever by the great Robert De Niro.
So Raging Bull has a better plot, better actors, a better director, and better writing. Doesn't that make it a superior movie.
Like I said earlier, the best movies are never comedies. They are good for laughs, but they never really make you think.
Critics consider it one of the best movies ever, clearly better than any other sports movie. Caddyshack just isn't on its level as a sports movie, or even as a movie period.

Report Offensive CommentYou can keep posting clips all you want, really. Thats not going to sway anyone [with a brain]. If you want to do a special on Caddyshack, write a blog. Otherwise, this is silly.
