Besides the NWO what was one of the most historic WCW script?

Peachy wants 300 wins! (260-584-110) vs You want to play a game? (890-263-54)

I think it was giving Ron Simmons the WCW Heavyweigt title. He was the first African American WCW HEavyweight champ! He led the way for Booker T later on. Ron Simmons/ a.k.a Farooq in WWF was a powerful guy and great wrestler.

*I'm Excluding WCW getting Hulk Hogan as well from WWF, PLEASE DON'T use because that's OBVIOUS*

Sadly, the reign of Ron Simmons was due mostly to Bill Watts wanting to both bring wrestling back to old school legit stars (see Dr Death for his biggest prize) who were rough men and away from the pretty boys- and also had a mainstream background.

Add to that the underscored racial tones of his reign, and Ron Simmons tour with the belt was NOT the success Watts and WCW Hoped for.

The most historic?

If I have to go PURE WCW

I'll take Starrcade 1997- it did 3 things

1. Killed a year and half angle with the 2 of the biggest stars in Wrestling history

2. Destroyed Bret Hart as an incoming player

3. SEVERELY damaged the East Coast in the war with the WWE- as followup shows in the BosWash did not do as well. Kind of like the Dusty finish killing off Chicago and the Northwest for YEARS in the 80s.

Ron Simmons is historic David Nc. Simmons was also part of the tag team "DOOM" who won the 1st WCW tag titles from the Stieners. Simmons held his WCW title for 5 months and beat Vader for the title who was a BIG TIME wrestler in Japan and later WWF. Simmons being the first African American champ stood out to me because it set Booker T up and even the ROCK in WWE. The Jackie Robinson of WCW!

You fail to mention that the Simmons title run was a HUGE failure at the Box office and Simmons was one of the FEW champions in those dayd to NOT EVEN HEADLINE major house shows.

Considering he was legit a mainstream name from his NCAA days and Bill Watts used it to deflect stories of him being a racist to begin with.

FURTHERMORE- Ron Simmons is NOT the first minority to hold the WORLD title in a Major Federaton

that would be Pedro Morales (unless you count Jewish,Irish, Arab or Polish minorities)

You also have a BUNCH of Asians

Plus the World TAG titles were held by Black men as well -noted by Tony Atlas & Rocky Johnson in the WWWE

You may claim that Tag team < World Title

but you don;t know your southern history esp the Carolina's until Ric Flair in the 80s Tag Team wrestling headlined more cards than singles did.

and First to slam Vader?

I can name FIVE in IWGP to do so before WCW

IN WCW, Sting, Nikita Koloff, and BOTH Steiner Brothers

BEFORE Ron Simmons

By the time ROn lost the title BACK to Vader when Watts knew he had failed to get him over with fans

He was a footnote

It would be as if Jackie Hit .180 and was sent to the Minors

Ok? Anyways, after you finished rambling i felt like writing this.

.....OUT of 57 times the WCW belt was held only 7 times by an African American. Ron Simmons broke the barrier. Hulk Hogan vs Sting was inevitable because Hogan went to WCW in 94 and Sting vs Hogan was a dream match for many wrestling publications. When you broke the barrier it hard for people to catch on. People caught on to champs later like Rock and Boooker T. So this is BS /You fail to mention that the Simmons title run was a HUGE failure at the Box office and Simmons was one of the FEW champions in those dayd to NOT EVEN HEADLINE major house shows.

This title reads WCW so I'm not talking about Pedro Morales and Rocky Johnson.

Uh Ok.

"When you broke the barrier it hard for people to catch on"

Really- I don;t seem to recall Jackie Robinson, Bill Russell or any other barrier breakers being hidden in the midcard.

"You fail to mention that the Simmons title run was a HUGE failure at the Box office and Simmons was one of the FEW champions in those dayd to NOT EVEN HEADLINE major house shows. "

actually, I did- Para 1 of Arg 2

and that helps you I have NO idea

"People caught on to champs later like Rock and Boooker T."

You are correct again- you have NO idea how many BlueChipper T-Shirts I have of Rocky Miavia or How many Kane and Kole figures I have-

Or how about these household names
Flex Kavana and GI-Bro?

Nope I don;t think they were successful out of the chute.

Title Reads WCW - but Pedro and the rest are Legit- as in Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier was JUST as big an impact on BOTH the Al and the NL

Art Shell had an impact on BOTH the AFL and the NFL

The Sting/Hogan match changed THREE careers and DOOMED a company- how can you get more impact than that?

Three Hall of Famers (in a fake sport) but All-Time greats changed that day.

You didn't just compare the single most important athlete of all time to an actor, did you Peachtree? *sigh*

July 21, 2008  02:18 AM ET

yeah, lol. Wrestlers are atheletes as well and Simmons played at FSU. Yeah, he was acting in WCW but picking up Big Van Vader and slamming him takes a lot of strength.

July 21, 2008  02:20 AM ET

Jackie Robinson was the truth no doubt.

July 21, 2008  04:19 AM ET

I'm not denying they're not athletes, but what they "accomplish" isn't anything compared to what nonscripted athletes accomplish.

July 21, 2008  07:52 AM ET

Simmons wasn't as mediocre as Robinson. Besides, Robinson intergrated baseball. Simmons was not the 1st brother in WCW. Thought I do remember Flair stating that there would never be a black champion as long as he was in the NWA(a flaw I forgive him for),I will ask the jury to disregard the "Jackie Robinson of WCW" statement. **BAM**(bangs gavel) Please continue.

how is dav losing?

July 21, 2008  10:57 AM ET

Maybe Stings switch to the Crow looking character. It really let him dominate.

How cool was it to see him come down from the rafter for the first time?

When you break the barrier it's hard for people to catch on DAVID NC!

July 21, 2008  05:02 PM ET

Especially in the south and wrestling.
