Go after Jason Williams.........

He isnt in his prime but he averaged 8.8ppg and 4.6apg in Miami last year and they arent exactly a fast break style team since they only averaged 91.4ppg last year......

Is he a long term solution????

No, but they are not able to go out and get a restricted PG like Louis Williams because they dont have the kinda money to do that.......

He is a viable option because he isnt going to be able to command a contract like he had in Miami, a ludicrous 8-plus million.......Most likely at 33, he will sign a 2-3 year deal worth 3 million a season........

Jason Williams - 32 years old

8.8PPG, 4.6APG 1.2SPG in 28 Minutes

Monta Ellis - 22 years old

20.2 PPG, 3.9apg, 1.5Spg in 37 minutes

Jason Williams is NEVER going to be known for defense- Ellis ranked 8th in Steals per game.

-- in 2007 Ellis won the most improved player award.

Ellis makes 770,610 in 2008
J-Will made 8,937,500 in 2008

12 times the cash

and LESS production- and a DECADE older?

Ellis is a FA, David...........He is gonna get probably 8-10 million A YEAR while Jason Williams will sign a 2-3 deal worth 6-9 for the life of the deal.......

Ellis isnt going to end up at the PG if Mullin is smart.......

The W's tried that a decade ago with Larry Hughes and it didnt work out to well........Williams ran a fast break offense when he broke in with the Sacramento Kings........

Ellis had the second most assists as a Warrior last year.

I am not stating he is the answer at SG- my point is Jason Williams is NOT the answer.

The Warriors are not going deep in the playoffs even if they sign Tim Hardaway in his PRIME to be the point guard.

and Ellis can run the point if need be. Baron Davis seemed to do pretty well in Nellie Ball.

Jason Williams Ran the fast break when he was in Sacremento- you do know that was back when CLINTON was president?

The Main diff between Larry Hughes and Ellis is one plays DEFENSE and one does NOT.

Sign Ellis and get a young PG - Juan Dixon or even resign Watson (3.7 PPG and 1.1 APG in 11 minutes - not a bad per 48 there)

If you HAVE to have an old guard go with Darrell Armstrong he made 770K last year.

Okay that is why I wanted a W's fan to accept.......There are those that think with the signing of Corey Maggette and playing Ellis at the point they can make the playoffs and make noise.......

Jason Williams averaged a career high 14.8ppg and 8apg his 1st year in Memphis when they averaged 89ppg with Mike Fratello as their head coach.......Stick him in Nelson's fantasy ball up tempo lineup and he would be capable of 12ppg and 7apg in about 28-30mpg

G-J Williams (For those that think he isnt good, almost a 3 to 1 assist to turnover ratio)
G-Maggette
F-Harrington
F-Jackson
C-Biedrins

Then they can bring Ellis off the bench as a 6th man since they depleted their bench by letting Barnes, Pietrus, etc walk away.......Ellis would be able to contend for 6th man of year and still get 35mpg if he backs up both G positions.......

I am not saying play Williams 35-40 mpg but 25-30 to give them a REAL PG as opposed to

Jason Williams averaged a career high 14.8ppg and 8apg his 1st year in Memphis when they averaged 89ppg with Mike Fratello as their head coach

Right and that was HOW MANY years ago?

Why don;t you sign Jerry West? not as a GM- as a PLAYER- his first year he averaged 30 and 4 under the transition game of Fred Schaus

1.4 to 4.6 is NOT a great average- I don;t care if it is close to 3 to 1 its not like you can double his 28 MPG at the age of 32 and get 9 Assists per game.

Right Ellis scored 20.2 PPG, 3.9apg, 1.5Spg in 37 minutes- came in 8th in STEALS PER GAME and you want to BENCH HIM?

Corey is 6'6 and is a FORWARD

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/maggeco01.html

Listed him as a FORWARD
or

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/teams/depth?team=lac

He is the STARTING SMALL Forward

How about

PG-? Watson/DJ/
SG- Ellis
SF-Corey
PF- Al Harrington
C- Andris Biedrins

You could even swap Stephen Jackson for some help- he makes 6.6Mil and is YET another 20PPG scorer they have.

YOU YOURSELF state Ellis is going to get 8-10 MILLION a year

and you want to BENCH him?

to try for a 6th man?

Damn u DAVID!!!!!!!!!!!!!

U dont like the W's...........

July 21, 2008 05:41 PM ET

This is the 2nd TD where you wanted a team to go after White Chocolate. I dont really buy him as a back up. You want guys to come off the bench and my solid. Williams is hardly that. He is flashy but incredilby turnover prone and shoots too much. Thats the last thing you want for a backup PG.

Wait on arguments

July 21, 2008 05:49 PM ET

Is David a Warriors' fan? Hahahahahaha :)

July 21, 2008 05:49 PM ET

His assist to TO ratio is almost 3 to 1

career 6.3apg to 2.3TO's

July 21, 2008 05:53 PM ET

Well - David makes flawed argument when talking salary - Ellis is restricted FA and is due for BIG raise, which Mully will give him. Long or short term, he's just not great at creating plays for his teammates and the W's are better off with him at the 2. Most of those 20.2 ppg he got while playing SG.

But I can't really condone the signing of Jason Williams, even if he were willing to take the pay cut he would have to take to be signed by the cap-strapped W's. As screamindemon points out - too turnover prone.

Really? Well, strike my last sentence from the record then.

July 21, 2008 06:00 PM ET

I guess he still has that reputation, even though its no longer deserved.

Warriors

July 21, 2008 06:16 PM ET

Who are these people that think signing Maggette and playing Ellis at the point get the Warriors in the playoffs?

dj - your Warriors lineup is terrible. Ellis as the 6th man?

Thugmeister | 07/21/08, 06:16 PM

Manu was the 6th man and still played over 30 mpg. I assume Ellis can do the same

July 21, 2008 06:21 PM ET

Thug

The bench sucks!!!!!!!!!

July 21, 2008 06:21 PM ET

They needed all the $ to sign Ellis and Biedrins

EVEN after BD left..........

July 21, 2008 06:21 PM ET

They have a lot committed to Harrington, Jackson and Maggette

July 21, 2008 06:23 PM ET

yes the bench is pretty thin right now.

A trade of Harrington could replenish that quite nicely....

July 21, 2008 06:25 PM ET

Dixon at the pg? I like Dixon but honestly I like him more as a scorer than I would as a point guard.
