All NBA Team using the Jersey #'s 6-10. Each number can only be used once, the player had to wear it for a team (1 season jersey wearers will not count, as to wear it for 2 seasons or more) and you must be able to show when he wore it.

PG- Pistol Pete Maravich, 7 = Jazz and Hawks
SG- Kobe Bryant, 8 = Lakers
SF- Walt Frazier, 10 = Knicks
PF- Bob Pettit, 9 = Hawks
C- Bill Russell, 6 = Celtics

List First, Arguments Following

Maaan You are REALLY going out on a Limb here.

Small hole however

in your AI SG in a PG Body spot you have Pistol Pete

I'll take

Number 7

Kevin Johnson

I really thought that last argument was going to come down to Kobe Bryant in the SG and replacing him with Walt Frazier and then actually replacing the SF position.

I was originally taking Kevin Johnson, very good choice. First off though Pistol Pete was a mad showmen. He passed and dribbled the rock like few before him. He was flash but also had substance to back up his game. Maravich was a 5 time All Star and Once held the league scoring title.

Career Averages
Maravich- 24.2 PPG, .820 FT%, .667 3%, 5.4 APG, .441 FG%
Johnson- 17.9 PPG, .841 FT%, .305 3%, 9.1 APG, .493 FG%

Stats dont show an entire career but the 2 players are extremely close. KJ passed the pass a little more and got others involved like a traditional PG but Pistol Pete Scored more like an AI type of player, where he must because his teammates needed that. Maravichs 3 shooting is higher as well, of course the arc was closer but that doesnt make up for DOUBLE THE percentage of MAKES.

Just to reinstate I didnt believe I was making an unstoppable list. Props to you david for stepping up to the challenge.

BUT IN THE END I CANT TAKE OFF PISTOL FOR KJ BECAUSE MARAVICH IS IN THE HALL OF FAME! HOF'er over KJ

First off

Walt as a SG and Kobe as a SF- Not like it matters I think either of us would FIND a way to put them all on the floor

AS a number 7

PM averaged 17.1 PPG 8.4 APG and 1.3 SPG

KJ averaged 22.3 PPG 4.4 APG and 1.1 Spg

So I will give up 5.2PPg for 4 Assist and .2Spg

and a little thing we call DEFENSE - plus you add in a 2.8 Turnover for Kevin vs Pete averaging 3.4 Turnover per game

I am not so sure that I would take a PG that averages 1 more Assist than turnover per game

not even for a 5.2 Boost in points.

Hall of Fame does not mean best of all time- There are TONS of players in EVERY Hall of fame that does NOT belong there- or is BARELY there. Pete Belongs there- but that does NOT make him the GOAT - as a Point Guard.

and Pete, great scorer - is not my Point Guard.

Kevin Johnson is.

Your definately right about making sure that we both would get Kobe and Walt on the floor and I am happy that this debate is not focused on that.

Same with the HOF'er doesnt mean GOAT and some are in it that shouldnt be. Very True.

It really depends on the type of team your putting on the floor. A flashy scoring team or a proven leader. Both Players in Kevin Johnson and Pete Maravich are deserving of the spot and I think you would agree but it really comes down to the fan nation deciding what player is Best for this team.

I had the same battle with myself and talking with a couple neighbors at work about having Kevin Johnson or Pete Maravich. I think you can understand where I am coming from though. Hall of Famer, retired Jazz man. I had to recognize the greats from the Jazz history.

Maravich is like the mold of Allen Iverson. I dont think in todays game Pete would have played a PG, but he still could handle the reigns. But the game was a little different back then and Maravich helped mold the game into what it is today. Making it more enjoyable to watch.

Maravich was a key into evolving basketball into an american entertainment past time of greatness.

"Maravich is like the mold of Allen Iverson."

**-- Spits out drink**

Allen Iverson is ranked number NINE in active players in assists per game!

and he is NOT even the POINT Guard of his OWN team

Plus AI is FIRST in Steals amoung active players and 5th ALL TIME

Plus AI is MUCH better Scorer than Pete, Sorry that is NOT debateable.

4 scoring titles- and 3rd all time in scoring

and he is a SHOOTING GUARD as Well

If your POINT GUARD averages ONE more assist than a turnover

and unless you have Pippen as your SF- you are in MONSTER Trouble.

PURE Point guard- KJ MUCH better passer and playmaker- Pete was a scorer ONLY-

and 5PPG is not enough to cover his passes to the other team.

Pistol wore #44 in Statlanta

EFB.. JL mr. 5555 | 07/22/08, 06:15 PM

My bad, he wore 44 in atlanta but in utah and new orleans he wore 7. He wore #7 from 1976-80.

July 22, 2008  07:55 PM ET

Dam, you got me Joe I was thinking Doctor J until I realized i couldn't use Bill Russell- the best center ever.

July 22, 2008  08:51 PM ET

Walt Frazier at SF?? what the hell he was clearly a point guard. If you put him at SG i could understand but at forward?

July 22, 2008  10:51 PM ET

Walt Frazier should be at SG, move Kobe to SF. Frazier is only 6-4. A SF that small only flies in college.

July 23, 2008  12:32 AM ET

Joe, just an echo man, but Clyde was no forward.

July 23, 2008  02:05 AM ET

I explained in my argument. I put Walt There because i just couldnt look for a good SF to put there, so i really had a hard time getting a solid SF. Thats where i thought my opposition would come in. So I thought my list was arguable because of Frazier at that spot, but couldnt remove Kobe either. Thus the joy in the TD

July 24, 2008  11:50 AM ET

I am swayed by Dave's arguments about KJ being the best choice here.

July 24, 2008  11:52 AM ET

Vote to Dave...a tad betterarguments.

July 24, 2008  11:57 AM ET

NCShvDavid got his stats flipped in the second argument, but I agree about Kevin Johnson.

July 24, 2008  12:05 PM ET

I'm split even after arguments. Initially, I was thinking Pistol Pete, but with better ball distribution from KJ and the other offensive weapons on the floor, you may not need a scorer at the PG position. No vote, sorry guys.

July 24, 2008  12:27 PM ET

If a TD was done based on what the player did to the game on and off the court then Maravich. He influenced the style of the game like few others. However, There are a TON of PG/SG i would take over him when it comes to me forming a team built to win. Maravich was all flash and no substance. He turned the ball over too much, shot too much, and cared far more about individual acolades than team success.
