Not too many big differences here. Iowa will be higher than 8th. They are returning their entire offensive line starters. Jake Christiansen is a good QB who had a 17:6 TD to INT interception ratio. They will be a tough team who will wear down defenses.
Michigan will be very bad this year. Their only bright spot is their defensive line. The offense is inexperienced, and they play a tough schedule with games against Utah, Miami (OH), and Notre Dame.
Purdue will be better than Michigan State. Curtis Painter has been as good as Drew Brees and Kyle Orton were. Kory Sheets is a reliable running back, and Anthony Heygood will be reminiscent of Anthony Spencer.

First to Michigan.
No matter how bad their team is they will have success some how Michigan have always been like that. Yes they will have a bumpy road but most likely will do better than 8th. Purdue had pretty much the same team last year and I don't see them doing much better than last year. Michigan State however have a good solid defense that can give most offenses a run. I don't see Iowa having the same success as last year with the tough Defenses in this confrence.
IrishR#1 said 07/24, 01:32 PM
Michigan lost their entire offense. They have no players who fit the spread. They have a tough schedule, and they do not have any playmakers on offense. They will be the 2007 Notre Dame of 2008.
Purdue will most definitely improve. Curtis Painter is getting better, and he has Orton and Sheets are targets. This is Tiller's final year, so I would expect them to be more motivated than ever.
Iowa has one of the best defenses in the conference. AJ Eddis is a linebacker who can stop the run and drop back in coverage. Matt Kroul is a good runstuffing defensive tackle. Mitch King is phenomenal at getting in the backfield and either getting the sack or getting the running back before he crosses the line of scrimmage. Don't underestimate Jake Christensen, who could have a breakout year at quarterback.

these are the first lists i've seen that have purdue in the top 5...come on guys. who the **** does Painter have to throw to? who the **** is gonna protect him on that pathetic OL they got? and half their D either had surgery this offseason or are new.
they're like the exact opposite of Michigan this year. they got a good QB but not much of anything else...UM doesn't have a good QB...but everything else is fine.

Bull. The Wolverines are a young team but they are bringing the spread which causes problems for teams in the Big Ten EVEN the Buckeyes. Yeah, I am saying the Wolverines have a shot against the Buckeyes too. What makes you so sure that a young team with an offense that runs the Spread, which makes other Big Ten teams vulnerable have a BAD year? Notre Dame still hasn't found the right components on offense. Michigan is more set than they are. Utah and Miami of (OH) are going to cause them big problems? I don't quite think so.

It will take a year or so for them to implement it and perfect it
OSU has a great D that will cause Michigan problems, not the other way around

Why do we have TD's that list order of teams and then when you look at the two lists, they are pretty much the same. It would be more interesting if you argued who would finish last, or who would finish in the middle. That usually seems to be where the only difference ever is. The to 3 are exact and the top 5 contain the same exact teams. Hate to read why peple think a team will finish 6th instead of 7th just because there is nothing left to argue. Once you get down that far, it is a crap shoot anyway. I could say Indiana is going to finish 8th, and still not have a big argument.

It didn't take teams like USC to get better after losing players like Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart and Carson Palmer. They are all good the following year. Why can't Michigan do the same with lesser of good teams in their Conference?

Tough call, I think I like Irish's list better. The fighting zooks will finish ahead of Michigan in the rebuild year.

DFan-First, Michigan is not USC. USC will always have a top 3 class. Michigan does not. Also, after Bush, Lienart, and Palmer left, they still had the same offense.
You also do not know what you are talking about when you said Michigan is more set than Notre Dame. ND is returning almost all of their starters, and they have a clear starting QB, starting running back, #1 wide receiver, and starting offensive line. When I see Michigan, I see the 2007 ND team. Even the fans are acting the same way. Denying the fact that their team is going to suck.

I don't know what I am talking about? No, Michigan is not USC. I know that, I made the comparison because Michigan does have some returning players at WR, RB, OL, and on defense. Notre Dame is more set? They have the same team that went 3-9, and are going to play some tough teams again like USC and Michigan. Do you expect Kimmy Clausen to magically get better? Is the formula to a PERFECT success just giving it ONE year? It depends on the player and the team as a whole last year was not very good. Michigan had a starting point of what they were doing and who was being used when they are coming into this year. They are also playing in a conference that is vulnerable to the style of play that Rich Rodriguez is bringing in.
What YOU don't understand is that teams should not only be looked at for the dark side, but look at them on the bright side. ND is returning almost all of their starters, but will a terrible year and coming in the following year make them MUCH better? Honestly, will it be a magic POOF and they are good only because they are getting a year older? Charlie Weiss dominated with Ty Willingham's recruits. These recruits are now Charlie Weiss's. You cannot predict the future of them this early on. As you cannot for Michigan either. Michigan is coming in with fresh legs, new talented players. Yes they are freshmen, some are sophomores and Juniors and seniors BUT, I don't think skill comes from just how many years a guy has played. I think the skill depends on the PLAYER that plays in the game. Not every player is going to progress at the same rate. Michigan is running the spread offense. It is hard for teams to stop if they are not familiar with it. How many Big Ten teams have played against it often? How about Notre Dame, how many have they played against it often?
Like I said. The skill does not reside on just years of progression. It is how the players react to their team and that is why you cannot count teams like Michigan out early on. Michigan has a QB set to go in Stephen Threet too. I don't see where you get off that they don't know if they have a clear starting QB or not. Michigan at the moment has has a clear starter, and they also are going to get the spread offense rolling.
YOU need to take more in consideration such as the offensive style, the coaching, the recruits and everything else into proportion instead of just saying "they are a young team, they will suck" because they are bringing in a new style of play. You don't even know what they have to offer. Don't go off saying I don't know what I am talking about when you will not even list or tell the full detail of both teams in the NCAAF. I am not denying anything. They could suck, they could be good. When you are a fan you want to think Positive of your team. That is what I am doing because the Pros dominate the Cons at the moment. That's it for now, come back and talk to me when you can take everything into proportion and not just one detail of the picture.

I might have had Illinois as high as 3rd (battling it out with Penn State for that spot). I wish at least one side had picked them higher so I could here the justification for having them in the low 7 spot.
