I will go with none other than the Florida Marlins.
They are all around great. Every single one of their 4 infielders is having an excellent year and they all have over 20 homeruns... except Cantu but he has 18.
There are other teams that have 3 greats and then one guy just hold them back, I would much rather have 4 good ones than 4 better but than one whose not so good.
1B- Mike Jacobs- .245 average, 20 homeruns (in only 298 at bats) and 55 RBIs. He averages a monsterous homerun every about 14.9 at bats and a slugging pct over .500. Sure his average is in the gutter, but he has been a HR machine this year.
2B- Dan Uggla- He has been one of the best second basemen all year
.274 (.361 OBP)
24 homeruns (after spending some time on the DL)
61 RBIs
60 runs
Solid.
SS- Hanley Ramirez- This guy has a serious chance at 40/40.
.301 average (.383 OBP)
23 homeruns
45 RBIs (leadoff hitter)
82 runs
23 steals
3B- Jorge Cantu
.287 average
18 homeruns
58 RBIs
60 runs
They have been one of the most all around and best outfields all year and are the MAIN reason for the Marlins success.

I will stay in the NL and go with the Chicago Cubs.
Now, the Cubs players might not have as many HR, but they have good hitters that hit for average.
1B- Derek Lee- .298AVG 64R 120H 272B 33B 15HR 59RBI 198TB 42BB 69K 5SB 2CS .362OBP .491SLG
2B- Mark DeRosa-.279AVG 59R 90H 17EB 23B 11HR 50RBI 144TB 45BB 75K 3SB 0CS .372OBP .446SLG
SS- Ryan Theriot- .328AVG 53R 120H 152B 13B 1HR 27RBI 140TB 44BB 33K 15SB 9CS .402OBP .383SLG
3B- Aramis Ramirez-.269 59R 93H 22/2B 13B 17HR 66RBI 168TB 48BB 63K 1SB 1CS .369OBP .486SLG
Well, I will compare them more in my next arguement, but I have to say that most of the Cubs players have better averages.
Finally, good luck EFB
EFB JAY CUTLER! said 07/23, 09:58 PM
Average is a tricky thing. I mean, baseball is all about runs right? If you have singles hitters they NEED other hitters in the lineup to hit them in. The average difference isn't enough to make up for the power hitters.
Your infield has totals of
.294 combined average
44 homeruns
202 RBIs
24 stolen bases
My infields combined stats
.279 average (only a slight difference)
85 homeruns
219 RBIs
32 stolen bases
Thats basically the important stats you can add anything in your argument if you please but I say this just about covers the basics.
Despite the seemingly low averages of my players, they are but a mere .015 points below your team average. I will GLADLY take a 15 point hit for average if at the same time I am getting an added bonus of 41 homeruns and 17 RBIs.
Lastly, this year
Jacobs< Lee
Uggla> DeRosa
Hanley> Theriot
Cantu>A-Ram (slightly)
I also have the best player of the bunch in Hanley and you have 2 big big names, but your middle infield isn't as great as they should be for the title of the best infield in the MLB this year. Its sort of 2 people carrying your team. Everyone of the Marlins infield contributes a LOT.
good pick tho and goodluck

Now we will look at the opposing thing for infielders: fielding
Cubs:
Lee- 98 G,873TC 789PO 76A 8E, .991 FLD %
DeRosa- 54 G, 208 TC, 88PO 115A 5E, .976 FLD %
Theriot- 93 G, 377TC, 137PO, 229A, 11E, .971 FLD %
Ramirez, A- 93 G, 202TC 47PO 147A 8E, .960 FLD %
Marlins:
Jacobs- 70 G, 517TC 472PO 37A 8E, .985 F%
Uggla- 86 G, 429TC 194PO 227A 6E, .986 F%
Ramirez, H- 98G, 429TC 159PO 253A 17E .960F%
Cantu- 83G, 207TC 51PO 139A 17E .918F%
The Cubs has 1576 TC, 32E, an average of .967 F%
Marlins: 1582 TC, 48E, average: .962 F%
So you see the Cubs have some better FLD numbers. So right now the Marlins are the better hitting team, but the Cubbies are a lot better fielding.
I think that gives them an advantage saying that your talking about the best infield in baseball. So I would rather have my infielders be better on the field.
EFB JAY CUTLER! said 07/24, 10:25 PM
No offense dude, but .005? I mean come on. True I would rather have more balanced players than all sluggers but its only a .005 difference. Theres NO way you can possibly say that a .005 difference in fiedling percentage is a bigger deal than a 41 homerun difference.
You said I have the better hitting, so my argument ends there. You gave me that so I will focus on proving that the defensive margin is NOT signifigant enough to make up for the margin in runs produced and all around slugging.
You think YOUR defense is better just because you commit less errors? I say its a LOT closer than you think.
For range factor, Dan Uggla ranks 4th for NL second basemen. For zone rating, Dan ranks 3rd for NL 2B.
Where does DeRosa rank in each? OUT OF THE TOP 10!! Thats NL only.
So translated, that means Uggla will make more plays than DeRosa that are much more difficult but as long as the balls hit right to DeRosa he wont make an error
Uggla>DeRosa DEFENSIVELY
For SS, Hanley ranks 6th in the NL for SS range and 7th in zone.
Theriot ranks 9th in range and DEAD LAST in zone.
Hanley>Theriot defensively
Cantu and A-ram split and Lee crushes Jacobs but defense is CLOSE
YanksFan is probaly leaving said 07/25, 09:53 PM
Wait what is difference with yours.
For hitting .15 pts whats so great about that, i see its a smaller differnce but that shows the Cubs have infielders that do not make many errors.
Also, you see that DeRosa has only played 54 G at 2B because he is more of a utility player so he plays all around.
That is about all to say but, Cubs= defense, Marlins= hitting.

Good point Squints I was thinking the same thing. When he said best infield. Maybe should have been titled best hitting infield...Because we all know Uggla while a really good hitter, isn't all that great with the leather.

"his pretty great with the leather."
For his career he is exactly league average in fielding % and slightly worse than league average in RF. Uggla is, at best, an average 2nd baseman. You like to jump all over Ian Kinsler as a "horrible" fielder, but his range factor is FAR better than Uggla's. Fielding percentage alone is a horrible way to judge infielders defensively.
