Hands down the winner is:

1.Jay Cutler:1502 pass yds, 10 TD'S 4 INT, 98.1 pass rtg... The Broncos are 4-1 with a two game lead in a division that nobody had them winning. He leads one of the 3 best offenses in all of football, and does it with no help from his defense.

2.Clinton Portis:514 rush yds, 4 TD'S, 4.5 avg... The Redskins picked by most to finish last in the toughest division in football are lead by Portis. He is finally justifing being traded for Champ Bailey.

3.Eli Manning:1032 pass yds, 6TD'S 1INT, 99.7 pass rtg... His numbers arent extremely impressive, but he has already had his bye week and has only 1 int. He is the QB for the best team in the NFL right now.

4.Jake Delhomme:1096 pass yds, 5TD'S 2INT, 90.6 pass rtg... He has probably locked up comeback player of the year already, but he is deserving of MVP consideration. Stats arent eye popping, but he did play is first two games without his go to guy.

5.Brett Farve:935 pass yds, 12TD'S 4INT, 110.8 pass rtg... The team is only 2-2 but favre has them poised for a run at the AFC East. He has a 6TD game already this season and should only get better as he gets a better grasp of the playbook.

1. Jay Cutler: agreed

2. Michael Turner: 543 rushing yards, 6 TD, 5.5 yards/rush
Michael Turner has been extremely valuable for the Atlanta Falcons. This was a team that Sports Illustrated projected to go 2-14 and finish last in the NFC South. They are currently 3-2 and tied for 2nd in their division. Turner has been especially important because the Falcons are starting a rookie, Matt Ryan, at QB and they need his running ability to open up the passing game for their inexperienced QB.

3. Clinton Portis
Portis has been very good, but the Redskins wins are as much a result of good QB play and strong defense as they are of Portis.

4. Brett Favre
Favre has been, statistically, the best QB in the NFL over the first 5 weeks. He leads the NFL in QB rating and completion percentage. Despite the Jets only playing 4 games, Favre leads the NFL in TD passes with 12. All this while still learning a new playbook on a new team.

5. Greg Jennings: 29 receptions, 569 yards, 3 TD, 19.6 yards/rec
Jennings has been unbelievable this season. He leads the NFL in receiving yards. The player in second place, Larry Fitzgerald, has over 100 less receiving yards. He's gotta be a top 5 candidate.

I like your selections, but how can you possibly leave Eli out of the disscusion? And Portis' play is what's allowing for Campbell's consistent performance this year. Jennings could possibly be up for Offensive player of the year, but nowhere near MVP type numbers.

I left off Eli because is numbers just aren't as good as the others, especially when you consider his competition. Here are the defenses he's played rankings in passing yards against:

Washington: 20th
St. Louis: 28th
Cincinnati: 6th
Seattle: 25th

Other than the Bengals, all the teams he played were ranked in the 20's. Eli has been very good against bad competition. At this point, he doesn't deserve to be in the top 5 for MVP.

Portis has been very good, don't get me wrong, but I think Turner has been more improtant to his team. Although Portis has helped his QB as Turner has, Matt Ryan needs a lot more help than Jason Campbell does. Turner has put up better numbers and has been more important to his team than Portis has been to his.

Why not Greg Jennings? He's been AMAZING thus far. Like I said, he has over 100 more receiving yards than anyone else in the NFL. He's had at least 87 receiving yards in every game this season. He's averaging an insane 19.6 yards per reception. He's averaging over 110 receiving yards per game. I know he's a receiver, but he deserve to be in the top 5.

Jennings Numbers are ok, I get that he leads in yards, but only 29 catches and 3 TD'S? Brandon Marshall missed a game and has 3 TD'S and more catches. The competition at reciever this year is down. Steve Smith missed two games,Boldin gets hurt, Plaxico got suspended, cant even explain whats wrong in Cincy and their recievers. He is a top reciever in a very down year.

Jennings numbers would be great in any year in any era. Here's what he's on pace for in 2008:

93 receptions, 1,821 yards, 10 TD

(I'm not saying that's what he'll end up with, but that's what he's on pace for).

With those kind of numbers, he must be in the top 5.

TURNER? Pitt I wont argue to give him ideas but he is very easy to argue against... no way over Clinton.

Re: Eli Omission

Hurst: Pit Panther is an Eagles fan so he left out Manning. Just last night I was watching last year's Week #14 win by the G-Men over the Eagles, 16-13. During the Pre-game stretches the Eagles fans were dogging the Super Bowl MVP who didn't throw up.

1. Clinton Portis
2. Jay Cutler
3. Gregorious Jennings

HM- DeSean Jackson because hes a... PUPPY!

I LOVE DeSean and wanted to put him up there, but he doesn't have the numbers and has made too many mistakes.

How you been EFB? I haven't seen you as much since 9/10

I honestly think DeSean deserves mention... the one critical mistake he made they scored anyway so he didnt lose any value from that. He really stepped up this year as both a WR and a return man. In the preseason, with the number of injuries out there with Curtis and Brown one puppy (I mean, man) stood above them all and completely revived the Steagles' WRs. Without him I think they would be a whole new team. Hes the one constant variable on that team... Westbrook is in and out like the burgers, McNabb randomley decides when he WANTS to play, and the other WRs arent even notable. DeSean has been the key component of that offense (yes, OVER Westbrook) and has done a good job returning. Yes, he fumbled one but he also housed one so we are even.

I dont like any nfc east teams, but couldn't leave out Eli or Portis... Before this year however, Portis has been a complete bust for Washington.

DeSean's been a great playmaker, but he's made some mistakes. We all remember the premature celebration. He also made 3 mistakes against Chicago that probably lost the game. He fumbled a punt, he got gun shy on another punt and instead of fair catching it at the 20 he let it go and it bounced to about the 5, then he ran an incorrect route which resulted in an interception.

You are kidding, right? The best RB in the game barring Westbrook is a bust? Coming into this year, Portis had 36 touchdowns in 3 and a little under a half seasons. He rushed for 15 hundred, 13 hundred, and 1262 in his 3 full years while maintaining a CONSTANT threat out of the backfield and being hands down NO question the best blocking HB in the game. Portis may not blow you away with rushing but hes the kind of guy who does the little things that end up being bigger than the big things... he also has some very good rushing stats.

Ive been good just since the swing of school started my time on here was small and far and in between. I am trying to get more active and we will see how that goes... maybe do a couple TDs a week.

October 11, 2008  07:56 PM ET

If you put any other RB worth a dang in Joe Gibbs' run happy offense he would eclipse everyone of those numbers easily... His yards per carry is terrible, and Washington has always had a great O-Line.

October 11, 2008  07:58 PM ET

So then Parker is trash too... they both have around the same YPC.

Dude, Gibbs is sucha moron playcaller its AMAZING Portis has over 4 YPC. Gibbs would be more successful if he called for 9 laterals before the RB finally ran. His playcalling just constantly baffled me. He was misusing Portis and Clinton still excelled.
