In your "For the Record" blog/article (http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/for_the_record/posts/16101) you stated that Kimbo Slice was a terrible fighter.
How can you say Kimbo (Kevin Ferguson) Slice is a terrible fighter? Kimbo is severely overhyped, but not a terrible fighter. Kimbo Slice is 3-1 and has been fighting professionally for less than a year. Kimbo is new to MMA, he's not a veteran and he's been fighting in the streets before 2007 and not in a gym training.
I think we can both agree that Kimbo will never be a Randy Couture or Fedor Emelianenko but all of your articles are too harsh on Kimbo.
Ok, let's pretend you never heard of Kimbo Slice. Next you hear of a fighter that beat Bo Cantrell, Tank Abbott and James Thompson in his first 3 fights? Would you still call this fighter "terrible"? Probably not. You my friend got caught up in the Kimbo hype.
Is Kimbo a terrible fighter? No.

In the context of MMA, yes, Kimbo is a terrible fighter. He might be a great street fighter or backyard fighter but as an MMA fighter he is terrible. I say that after watching him fight Bo Cantrell, a guy who I'd never heard of who has lost his last 4 fights, Tank Abott, a washed up fighter at 43 who has lost 8 of his last 9 fights, and James Thompson, another nobody who has lost 7 of his last 9 fights. These guys were hand-picked for Slice to pummel, and for the exception of Thompson and his bulging, bloodied ear, who I actually had winning the fight before it was prematurely stopped (can you say "fix") he did just that. Kimbo began to be exposed against Thompson and was fully revealed against Seth Petruzelli, a relative nobody who beat him in 14 seconds. I know Kimbo is new to the sport, but that's not the point. Who knows, maybe one day the 34-year-old may become decent, but right now he's not. I'm not even going to bring up the countless fighters and trainers I've talked to who have said Kimbo is terrible, just look at these fights yourself and open your eyes and stop believing the hype.

The definition of terrible is: extremely bad; of very poor quality.
Kimbo Slice is not an extremely bad MMA fighter. All of his fights (which the fighters were too experienced for Kimbo in the first place, in my opinion) were hand picked by his training staff (including Bas Rutten) to pave the path of a new MMA fighter. They were trying to build up Kimbo???s game and confidence. You can???t throw a street fighter out there with UFC veterans and expect the street fighter to win, but that???s exactly what Kimbo did. He defied the odds and won his first 3 fights.
Brand new MMA fighters start off fighting other new fighters. Kimbo did not get that luxury (due to CBS and EliteXC milking Kimbo for all he???s worth), he went straight into the lion???s den and faced professional fighters that had multiple fights and experience under their belt.
In Kimbo???s defense, he was not adequately prepared to fight Seth Pertuzelli. Kimbo and his training staff prepared for weeks to fight Ken Shamrock and his ground game. To suddenly switch an opponent hours before a fight is a huge disadvantage to any fighter let alone a fighter with less than 1 year experience.

Yes, Hank, your definition of terrible perfectly describes Kimbo as an MMA fighter. "Extremely bad; of very poor quality."
You keep harping on the fact that he's new and inexperienced. That's not the arguement. Maybe one day Kimbo will become a decente MMA fighter, but for right now, yes, he is terrible and the proof is in his fights. Don't tell me he got thrown into the lion's den against fighters who were old and equally as bad as he was. These guys were hand-picked losers. The moment he faced someone who was decent, he got pummeled.
I agree that he didn't prepare for Pertuzelli, so I'll cut him some slack, but it wouldn't have mattered. Kimbo knows that and that's probably why he refused a re-match when Pertuzelli asked him if he wanted one after the match. The Thompson fight showed me that if Kimbo got in the ring with anyone under 40 who could actually fight, he was in trouble.

Kimbo is truly a unique individual that I find quite admirable in many ways. I've been following MMA for many years since moving to Hawaii and have watched new fighters duke it out trying to make a name from them self. The first time I heard the name "Kimbo Slice" was in a ESPN article about an up and coming street fighter trying to make it in MMA. I immediately went to youtube and saw Kimbo knocking his opponent senseless, since that moment I was hooked.
I've seen a lot of "local fights" with street/thug fighters trying to compete in MMA. As you know these fighters usually get in the ring/cage and get pummeled or submitted by an fighter with some type of MMA skill (BJJ, wrestling ect.). Knowing this I thought Kimbo would have no chance what so ever to beat a fighter with minimal MMA skill. Kimbo proved me wrong and won his first 3 fights. Kimbo is not a good/great MMA fighter and probably never will be, but I will always watch and support Kimbo Slice and I admire him for getting out there with professionals and giving it his all.
It's almost cliche to "knock" on Kimbo Slice, but I will continue to tell the tale of "Kimbo Slice" to the world and defended him.

That was very touching Hank. I'm not sure, but I think I shed a tear when you said, "I will continue to tell the tale of 'Kimbo Slice' to the world and defended him." I'm sorry to say, but Kimbo's "tale" will be a short one my friend. He's simply not a good MMA fighter as you would agree. Again, that doesn't make him a bad guy, I actually think he's one of the nicer guys in the MMA, or that he won't be a good fighter one day, he might be, but for now he's not there yet, which I think we both agree on.
