If the Yankees pitching increases they have a very good chance to make the playoffs. Right now they are hitting and playing defence well but their pitching is just not getting the job done! If Roger Clemons, Andy Pettitte, and Mike Mussina can keep their ERA below 3.00 it will allow the team to manufature runs and win ballgames.

ok, i am a yankees fan myself but i feel that they are done. actually their offense isn't producing right now considering they only had 1 hit on saturday. the redsox pretty much have the al east wrapped up unless their rotation starts to demolish. also the tribe are going to win the al central, so that leaves the yankees trying to fight for the wildcard which they are 9.0 behind the tigers. the tigers and the marineers will be fighting for the wild card unless the yankees acquire some amazing pitching

The Red Sox are going to crap right now too.......they lost to the team that has the worst record in the MLB. All the Yankees have to do is have good pitching to make it to the playoffs!!

true the redsox are doing crap right now but so are the yankees. in their last 10 games they are 2-8 and the redsox are 4-6. also the yankees aren't even in 2nd in the al east, the blue jays are ahead of them so the yankees have to even worry about them as well

Ya but the Blue Jays arn't near as far ahead of the Yankees as the Red Soxs. The Yankees have a very good chance of catching up to the Blue Jays as well as the Red Sox as long as their pitching is good

no way they can come back..sorry yankees fans. too far behind and the red sox are pitching and hitting amazing right now

July 2, 2007  03:43 PM ET

LOL, how does their pitching "get better"? One of their aces got POUNDED yesterday.

July 2, 2007  03:43 PM ET

WOW.....everyone has a "bad day"

July 2, 2007  03:48 PM ET

And if pigs could fly we would all be in a **** load of trouble, Yanks are done.

July 2, 2007  04:01 PM ET

As much as I want to believe the truth is this team is waning. And truth be known the offense is probably a bigger culprit then the pitching.

July 2, 2007  04:18 PM ET

In 17 starts, Pettit is 4-6. Bad "day" my hiney.

July 2, 2007  04:24 PM ET

The Yanks have given him NO run support. I'll buy the bad day reason. Pettitte has been the best Yankees starter regardless of record. ERA is a much better judge. His ERA after that debacle is 3.77, the best of the team. He has consistently been given terrible run support.

Survey Says: NOOOOOOOOOOo The Yankees are DONE!

July 2, 2007  04:39 PM ET

If they can keep their ERA below 3 the rest of the way, hell will be frozen over...especially with Mussina.

July 2, 2007  04:43 PM ET

Agreed. I can see Wang and Pettite being around 3 for the rest of the year but Mussina and Clemens are probably at best 3.50 pitchers and realistically 4.00 for both should be accepted as good performance.

With the Yanks offense 4.00 ERA SHOULD be enough to win. Problem has been that the offense has been too streaky and gone away for strecthes of the season. Seems like they need a shutout thrown to win games.

July 2, 2007  04:44 PM ET

11 games out, and lost 2 of 3 to the A's. What makes you think they're going to heat up. I think that some Yanks fans will wait until they are 30 games out with 5 games left before they might realize that IT"S OVER.

July 2, 2007  04:51 PM ET

News Flash....Red Sox did not just lose to the team with the worst record in Baseball. That would be the Reds, not the Rangers

July 2, 2007  04:58 PM ET

The Red Sox line up isnt even doin that great so even if the yankees pitching heats up there is a better chance that the red sox line up will heatup

July 2, 2007  05:03 PM ET

wow cole ur gettin killed lol

I agree with CJBOSOX... and keep in mind.. yes, we dropped a couple games to the rangers.. which are not the worst team in baseball.. but if thats what you want to call it... The Yankees have only won 11 out of 27 series all season so far... and are 5-8 against the Red Sox this year and 1-3 against Toronto. How can a team come like this come back froma deficit like the one they are in.. Here is a start.. start beating the two teams in your division more often than you have.. that will get you into a better position to make a run... and then LEARN TO WIN SERIES DURING THE SEASON because a win here and there wont do it... How do you become a contender for the playoffs... you play .500 baseball in every aspect of the game.. and if your halfway through your season and behind as bad as the yankees are... they better start playing atleast .750 ball... Which is a number unheard of... and the more they lose.. the worse that number will get.. All I can tell you now my friend... is continue to pray.. ya never know.. God may be a Yankee fan.. but come to think of it.. too much sin there.
