It's an absolute disgrace that 6'10" San Diego Padre right-handed star Chris Young did not get enough votes from players and was disrespected/overlooked by NL All-Star manager Tony LaRussa. He should have been an automatic selection for his stellar season at this point in a Padre rotation that is clearly one of the best in MLB at this point. The Padres have been an NL West contender all year and at the moment are in first place in the tightest division race in baseball. Young has the NL's third-highest ERA at 2.14, is 8-3, and has 90 Ks. A Princeton University-educated individual, Young is a class act in professional sports and is the perfect candidate for the image of MLB - especially in a nationally-televised All-Star event where image is huge. Young HAS TO BE the NL player fans vote in by Thursday on mlb.com, has to be!

I agree Young is a good player, but they're better pitcheris than him in the final vote. Carlos Zambrano, Brandon Webb, and Roy Oswalt are all better pitchers than him even if the don't have the numbers now. Brandon Webb, a former Cy Young winner should be voted in instead of a pitcher that's only pithched 3 1/2 years. It'll be close but I would like to see Webb get it.

Better pitchers than him in 2007 in that final vote? Chris Young currently has the lowest batting average allowed in MLB at .197. Some of his best starts this season in that 8-3 record are against some powerful AL batting orders. The best example would be his victory over the Boston Red Sox late last month: Young got the win over Boston going 7 innings, allowing 1 hit, 0 runs, two walks, and he struck out 11. Boston batted .043 against him that night. Few have matched that against Boston.

He's not ready! He's had a great 1st half but he will of course higher his ERA, and it's just 1 half! Webb is a CY YOUNG WINNER!!!!!!! He shouldn't even be in the final vote! Oswalt is great too. All of those pitchers are gonna get better, and he's gonna get worse.

Let's not forget we vote for All-Stars based on what has happened in the FIRST HALF. That is a weak argument metsman734... Finally tI give you this in the 7-2-07 Chicago Tribune from Carlos Zambrano, also one you can vote for right now: "The only thing I am surprised at is Chris Young wasn't on the team. He deserves to go and he is doing good this year. I think honestly he's the one that deserves to go."
Thank you Carlos Zambrano.

Numbers aren't everything. It's also based on other things. What about thost 3 losses? What about the fight with Lee? There are more things than just numbers. Who wants a guy that threw a punch at a player on their team? There are more things to consider.

I meant pitched

I agree. Chris Young has been outstanding, but due to the fact that he is in San Diego which does not get the media coverage like the East Coast teams, he is left fighting for one spot.

Chris Young is the most underrated pitcher in baseball.

July 3, 2007  10:15 AM ET

no, john maine is

July 3, 2007  10:18 AM ET

No he is not. John Maine is not nearly as good as Chris Young.

July 3, 2007  10:18 AM ET

i know, he's better

July 3, 2007  10:22 AM ET

Maine=9-4 2.74
Young=8-3 2.14
Chris is alittle better this season.

by a teensy-weensy bit

July 3, 2007  10:31 AM ET

I think Chris Young Wil be an allstar pitcher just give him a couple years

July 3, 2007  10:35 AM ET

CDH vote to me?

July 3, 2007  10:58 AM ET

thanks

July 3, 2007  11:23 AM ET

I say Webb.

July 3, 2007  11:39 AM ET

Chris Young deserves it more than those other guys.

As an outsider in this throwdown, I have to give my vote to Oswalt. His numbers don't represent his best stuff, but he has not recieved run support either. I will also agree that Chris Young has outstanding statistcs thus far. That kid is good, and he gets some points for going toe to toe with D. Lee from Chicago. I would have to agree with CDH, that he will be an All-Star, but give him a couple of years to develop.

Chris Young has better stuff than pitchers already on the squad, how does he not get in with a lower ERA than any AL pitcher, an 8-3 record, and a nasty right hook?

July 3, 2007  01:43 PM ET

Great points hiya and ebenezer....That ERA is ridiculus, and based on that he should be a first-stringer....Not a vote getter after the fact...He does have one heck of a right hook too...I laughed so hard on that one.

July 3, 2007  01:59 PM ET

He should have been in over Hamels...and a few others...Fuentes? Are you kidding me?

BTW, Young had a very good season last year...it's not like he's a flash in the pan...

July 3, 2007  02:36 PM ET

wasn't the webb the guy that got bombed by the Cardinals last night?

July 3, 2007  02:45 PM ET

Chris Young a class act? I guess he is, but didn't he get in a fight with Derrek Lee?

July 3, 2007  04:04 PM ET

Oswalt and Young should've been in the initial lineup instead of Fuentes and Hamels. Maybe the players & managers thought 3 Padres pitchers would be too many...and it is. I gotta vote for my boy, Roy.
