Howie Long said it best "Baseball is America's pastime, Football is America's passion". Football has the best athletes, the best games, the best story lines, and the most intense game play. All 11 players on the field are important parts of the machine and part of the strategy that is football. The regular season is only 16 games, so each game is important and worth watching (almost all of them). The playoffs are not best of 5, or best of 7, but win or go home, each and every game. The Superbowl is an honorary national holiday. No sport comes close to Football in overall levels of greatness. Physical, Mental, and Skillful, a true man's game

Baseball Owns. There are SO many different things that can happen at a baseball game, and so many different things that occur at ballgames that make it the best sport. I mean, it's better than football. At football games, throw the ball, catch the ball, run the ball. Seriously, any guy who can eat can become an Offensive Lineman just by learning how to block people from throwing the QB on his ****. It takes skill to be able to react to a ball thrown at 100 MPH in .6 seconds.
TheChampOfSportsTalk.com said 05/04, 09:48 PM
Wow. You would think you made the arguement for football. What usually happens at a baseball game is boredom. Football, where the players actually make physical contact on every play is about 10 times more unpredicatable than any game in the history of baseball. It takes equal skill to catch a 70 mph pass while running and moments away from being hit by 200+lb men, who are aiming to hurt you, than it does to hit a fastball, with no threat of being blindsided by a linebacker. Baseball is slow
chipperboy1 said 05/04, 09:50 PM
It's hard for a catcher to squat for an entire game trying to catch 100 MPH fastballs. The batters have less than 0.7 seconds to react to a thrown pitch! I could go out and at least have a decent showing at football, I can catch passes and throw balls at least 30 yards. But I cannot immediately step up to the plate and hit a 90 MPH fastball or a curveball or whatever. You have to train your entire life for things like that. Which is what makes it great: people are taught the game from birth.
TheChampOfSportsTalk.com said 05/04, 10:19 PM
Its hard for an offensive/defensive line to be in a three point stance throughout a game, while being in what is equivalent to 5mph car crash; every single play. I think its more of a talent to be able to read an entire defense, decide who is open and who isnt, and make a throw while a 260 lb linebacker is running at you full steam ahead trying to take your head off. There is no comparison. All you are talking about is hitting fastballs. Every player on the field in the NFL is a fast ball.

Reasons why baseball is better than football:
Tailgate parties- You go to a 3 p.m. game at 8 a.m. to start drinking. You're drunk by game time. Sure sounds like fun to me.
Vin Scully- He's the best ever.
Cooperstown, N.Y.- No sport has baseball's sense of history.
Bobby Cox
The Cincinnati Bengals- No details needed, right?
Red Sox Nation
End zone celebrations- Barry Bonds hasn't done some of the stuff the NFL idiots do.
Peter Gammons
Terrell Owens

To make a play succesful, you need all 53 guys working together in unison. To win a game, you need 53 guys working together in unison for 60 minutes. To win consistently through a season to make it to the playoffs, you need 53 men to work together in unison for 16 games. To win a championship, you need 53 warriors, 53 soldiers, 53 men, and 53 Champions.
END OF STORY
Champ wins.

Why not? Did you start playing baseball at 3, like a bunch of other people?
And if it's not so great, why do you have a Baseball profile pic? Why not a Patriots one?

Well, then vote for my side, because I'm just arguing against football. I agree. Here's my order:
Baseball
Soccer
Hockey
Football
Basketball

I played baseball from t-ball to my middle school years. Then I found out I was only average and hung my cleets.
Couldnt hit to save my life.

I'm not gonna vote for this one because I don't think there is a right answer... Love 'em both and both of you guys have good points. Baseball is by far a game that involves much more training and skill. I've played both and I was an excellent football player, but I can barely make contact in baseball. However there is much more excitement throughout a game of football. Baseball, however, isn't restricted by a time limit, so realistically a game is never actually over. Both sports are great, so instead of trying to figure out which one is better, I'll just be content knowing they are both better then curling and darts.

LOL.
Same here.
Though when I was 5, playing t-ball, I turned an unassisted triple play.
When I was 3, I could name all the Braves players and their numbers.

It's hard for me to vote on this. I love football and baseball at a near equal amount. While I have more pride in my football team, this is argument is more at a "solely one sport" type, and it's near difficult for me to pick.

The argument is this:
Football vs, Every other sport.

To me, it looks like the starter of this debate confined it into football and baseball, judging by his opening argument. Either way, it's hard to choose.

The opener should have kept to the topic, then.

the debate is the professional football (NFL) is greater than any other professional team sport; baseball, basketball, hockey, NASCAR (they do have teams!), etc.....but I do put anyone to the pepsi challenge to name any individual sport that is greater than America's passion

I love both these sports with an equal passion, but I will throw in my two cents...hitting a round ball with a round bat is the hardest thing to do in all of sports. Both take great amounts of skill, but just different types of skill. PLaying football and watching it is much faster than baseball, and to say anybody who can eat can play lineman is an ignorant statement. I will agree that from a DT's perspective, trying to read about 70 different things in the matter of a second is just as difficult if not more so than reacting to a 90mph pitch. This throwdown seems to have gone from being about the greatest team sports to a baseball/football debate. So based on the topic thread I would also like to add that football is in fact the ultimate team sport. NO other sport requires you to have to pull your own weight or more so much as football does. NO other sport leaves another man's life in your hands...you miss an assignment, it could lead to serious injury or worse. NO other sport requires the need to respect everybody on their team. There are guys I have played with that I couldn't stand, but I respected them so much on the field, that I still put in the 1000% effort to make my plays so that that person didn't get hurt. No other team sport has the kind of bond between players that football does. THE CHAMP WINS this throwdown based on the thread.
