Im going to say offenseive line. More specifically, I'd say a tackle. The reason I say this is because the tackle is the only thing between a good end and your quaterback, and with the NFL being a majority passing league, that is very important. However, if you decide to run the ball a lot of the plays either go right outside of the tackle or inbetween the tackle and gaurd.

Im gonna go easily with the QB. He dictated the plays on the field keeps everyone together and he is ultimatley responsible at the end of the game for the outcome of his team. He has to throw pass, or complete Running plays out and sometimes run it himself. An O-Line is important in football but i think the QB is responsible and much more needed than a Tackle.

I see your point, however, it is awfully hard for QBs to do anything when they are constantly being chased down by ends. I really believe that a mediocre QB can be great with a great o-line. whats the point of having a superstar QB if you can't do anything with him.

Well we are talking about a Tackle specifically right, not the entire O-Line. B/c if we are talking specifically no one does more on the field than the QB, a good gaurd can be strong enough to help out the weak tackle. But if we are talking generally i would say the Defense, you can have the highest scoring offense in football but if your defense is crap you will mor than likely never win.

I originally said o-line, but I thought that people would give me crap because o-line isn't technically a single position, but i'll say o-line.

If your going with defense what about the colts, their defense was beyond crap and the won the superbowl. you may say that defense win games, but offenses do most of the scoring, and you can't score without a good o-line. and thats what it ultimatly comes down to, putting points on the board.

but their defense wasnt that bad, they were middle of the pack, and it wasnt like they were talent less. Look at the Baltimore Ravens, they had an offense 18th and D ranked 1st, or chicago Offense ranked 15th and D ranked 2nd, both playoff teams. I agree you need an O-line to have a decent offense, but look at Farve, he hasnt had a decent offensive line for a little whil ebut he still puts good numbers up, so its not imposible to have a good offense with a sub par O-Line. But if you have a weak defense you will more than likley pay for it.

I am going to say no position is not any more important than the others...you win as a team you lose as a team...

July 9, 2007  10:45 PM ET

ok I am too damn tired to be typing dang double negatives...I meant to say I don't think there is a position out there that is anymore important than the others...again you win as a team you lose as a team...

July 9, 2007  10:50 PM ET

JG has it...an offensive line as a WHOLE is more important than the QB, but one O-Line position cannot be seen as more important than the QB...

July 9, 2007  10:50 PM ET

im saying if you had to chose one position what would you pick JGJintsMetsFan76

July 9, 2007  10:51 PM ET

He said Tackle specifically, and O-Line broad. I could have argued a Defense as a whole b/c defense wins games but he picked specifically so i did aswell

July 9, 2007  10:52 PM ET

I think it is the 4th String Bench Warmer.

July 9, 2007  10:53 PM ET

I wouldnt really pick a position because if you word it that way there still is not a way to really choose...the defense and offense have their specific leaders so choosing the specific leader would be the only appropriate answer to me.

The one's who are/should be captains and always gets the team riled up with their play and attitude are the most important if I would have to choose...again no specific players position...except their position on the team...

July 9, 2007  10:53 PM ET

One tackle does not help a QB. One star tackle can only block so many guys at once. A QB is more important than a single O-Line position.

July 9, 2007  10:57 PM ET

what Colts is trying to say is that Tackle on the O-line is one of the toughest positions to play and a good tackle can help make the O-line better so in his opinion the O-line is more important especially a good tackle..

July 9, 2007  10:59 PM ET

I know, but he said specific position and a QB is more important than a single tackle. Give me two good tackles and I could see that as a fair trade off, but one? No way. Give me an awesome O-Line and a great RB with decent WRs and a decent QB, I'm happy.

But anyway. his topic is a specific position so you must throwout the fact that an ENTIRE offensive line is better than a single QB, that isn't the topic. What is the topic is that a tackle is more important than a QB, which is completely untrue.

MarkusJams01

did you watch the playoffs this past winter?

July 9, 2007  11:17 PM ET

I'm going to quote a local Dallas radio personality and jounalist Randy Galloway: "It's all about the Quarterback". If you don't have a good QB, then you really have little to no chance to win it. True the offensive line plays a big part in the QB's success. But the only example I can truly think of with a poor QB winning a SB is in 2000 when Dilfer didn't lose the game for the Ravens. Even then, the RB and defense had to compensate for his lack of ability. On the other hand, VY and Favre are good examples of a QB taking over and taking a mediocre team and bringing them to prominence. You could also make a case for McNabb (don't come crawling out of the woodwork Eagles Haterz) since he stepped on the field in 1999. Peyton is also a good example despite the fact that he is surrounded by great talent all around.

July 9, 2007  11:19 PM ET

Yes, everyone is important on a football team but to deny that the QB is most important is just silly.

July 9, 2007  11:20 PM ET

i agree, however some QBs come in with great leadership skills and a great attitude which helps turn a team around, not just his skill

July 9, 2007  11:20 PM ET

And whoever said it is right, offensive line is a unit, not a position. QB is the most important position.

July 9, 2007  11:22 PM ET

And the Colts defense was not "beyond crap" in the playoffs. Regular season, yes, they couldn't stop the run to save their lives. But they did almost a complete 180 come playoff time.

July 9, 2007  11:27 PM ET

Your all wrong, the most important position for a winning football team is The 4th String Bench Warmer.

July 9, 2007  11:28 PM ET

They did do a COMPLETE 180...maybe even a 540!!!?

July 9, 2007  11:28 PM ET

I really think all of the positions are important, if you don't play as a team and only individuals you won't get very far.

July 9, 2007  11:28 PM ET

Didn't you already say that? Yes, you did.
