In each of the 3 major American sports (sorry, I don't follow hockey much)

NBA- L.A. Clippers
Perennially a lottery team. Perennially draft high. Perennially draft bad and/or ruin the careers of talented players out of the gate. Perennially suck.

They don't spend money and when they do they waste it on injury prone bums who ain't worth a dime. There is really no excuse for this teams failures. They can't even use the tired "small market" excuse. This is just a crap franchise from top to bottom.

MLB- Washington Nationals
This club never spends a dime, never makes any attempt to keep future talent and never wins. The only thing this organization has managed to do in the last 6 years is make people in Montreal very happy. They are in the exact same market as the Skins, who remain one of the most lucrative teams in a much more popular league, yet they can't draw flies to their new empty stadium

If there is one constant in baseball it is that you will find the Nationals at the bottom of the standings year in and year out.

NFL- Detroit Lions
Do I even need to argue this?

NBA- Vancouver / Memphis Grizzlies

101-359 record before they made the move to Memphis. Drafted Big Country to carry the franchise.....serious, Big Country? In 14 years, they have only had 3 winning seasons. They have only made the playoffs in those 3 years, AND THEY HAVE NOT WON A SINGLE PLAYOFF GAME! That tells you all right there. Franchise win % .326%

The Clippers? .362% Not much better, but def not the worst, as you put it.

The pre Nats (Expo's) had the best record in baseball in 1994. They have made it as far as the NLCS. Ya, obviously the Nats have the worst record right now, if that's what you're basing this on. If you wanna go attendance wise, I'd say the Marlins or the Pirates. There's a certain ESPN radio dude who likes to talk about how Florida is a horrible baseball state. But clearly they're not, having won a world series. The Phillies are the first to lose 1K games...but I'm going with...

MLB- Pittsburgh Pirates

Too many years in a row without a winning season ( I count 15), plus you just can't ignore the attendance.

NFL - Lions No argument here, but I LOVED watching them when I was young. Barry Sanders baby!

Forfeited Turn

well that's a shame, this had good potential.

Happy 4th to everybody!

NHL-PHX

i could probably argue a different football and baseball team.

July 3, 2009  10:42 PM ET

The only other baseball team I could think of was Pittsburgh. Only other football was Oakland.

I considered dogging on my 'Hawks, but they made the super bowl a few years back. If the Cards had not caught fire last year, I would have put them for sure.

Dont think the Nats are as bad as there record shows

July 3, 2009  11:20 PM ET

im a fan of the pirates, but their ownership blows d!ick

July 4, 2009  03:28 AM ET

Technically, the Bobcats?

Oakland is terrible, maybe even worse than the Lions. The Lions actually have some star players.

The Raiders won in the early 80s. The Lions haven't done jack ****!

The Pirates may be the worst MLB franchise over the last 16 seasons but overall? No way, They have 5 World Series titles. Only the Reds, Dodgers, Red Sox, A's, Cardinals, and Yankees have the same (Reds) or more. The Nats/Expos have never even been to a WS, joining the Rangers and Mariners. There only real success as follows:

In 1981 (their ONLY division title ever), a players' strike in the middle of the season forced the season to be split into two halves. Montreal won the division in the second half, despite having the second best record in the division when considering the entire season, two games behind St. Louis.

In 1994, a players' strike wiped out the last eight weeks of the season and all post-season. Montreal was in first place in the East Division by six games when play was stopped. No official titles were awarded in 1994.

So their only real success came in two STRIKE SHORTENED seasons. Who knows if they had been played out? If that is your only defense...the Pirates are clearly the better OVERALL franchise.

NHL - Toronto Maple Leafs

NBA- Clippers, Are they serious with trying to compete with the Lakers and being terrible all at the same time?

MLB- You say you can't ignore attendance, so the Marlins.

NFL- Lions, no explanation needed.

July 4, 2009  02:04 PM ET

i'd have to agree with outlaw-shogun with the MLB for sure
