Simple: List your Top 3 Worst Trades of All-Time

1) Golden State trades McHale & Parrish to the Celtics for Joe Barry Carrol in 1980

2) Seattle Supersonics trade Scottie Pippen to Bulls for Olden Polynice in 1987

3) Charlotte Hornets trade Kobe Bryant to Lakers for Vlade Divac in 1996

I agree with #1 (Robert Parrish, Kevin McHale) and with #3 (Kobe Bryant).

But I am going to replace #2 (Pippen) with:

- Bucks trade Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to the Lakers, for Elmore Smith, Brian Winters, Dave Meyers and Junior Bridgeman - 1975

The Bucks basically did what no team should do: they traded an MVP for role players.

In 1975, Kareem was a 3-time NBA MVP and had won a title with the Bucks (NBA Finals MVP, by the way).

So the Bucks decided to trade their best player, getting little true talent in return.

The result?

Kareem would win another 3 MVP titles with the Lakers, along with 5 NBA championships.

He is the player with the all-time most MVP awards.

He was selected for an added 14 All-Star games, with the Lakers, adding to the 5 appearances he already had with the Bucks.

One of the best all-time Centers.

Do you know why this trade is even worst than yours (#2)?

Because the Supersonics traded a rookie, a player that they didn't know was going to be that good.

It was a terrible mistake, granted.

But the Bucks did even worse, trading the then 3-time MVP!

For your Kareem TD, the Bucks got a couple of pretty decent players in the trade. They knew who they were trading, they knew he was in his prime. But after The Big O Oscar Robertson retired with the Bucks, the Bucks plunged to last place with a 38-44 record in 74-75. So they traded Kareem, for he requested it. They made the trade to vastly improve, for Kareem was not functioning well in the system anymore. The next season after trading Kareem, they went on to win the Division title again, after being last last season with kareem.

You know why the Pippen trade was one of the worst? The Supersonics didn't even try to get the talent out of Pippen. After drafting him, they immediately traded him for Polynice. Without his outstanding development in Chicago, Michael Jordan might've only won 5 titles, ya i said it lol. Although Pippen needed Jordan more for those 6 championships, Jordan needed Pippen as well.

Time for Trivia!

Do you know how many championships the Bucks have won? 1, in 1971... with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Do you know how many conference titles the Bucks have won? 2, in 1971 and 1974... with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Do you know the Bucks player that was selected 4 years in a row (1971, 1972, 1973, 1974) to the All-NBA First Team? Yep, it was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

And then what did the Bucks decide upon doing?

They traded him for little-known role players.

They never won a championship again.

They never won a conference finals again.

The Lakers were thankful though: they won 5 NBA championships with Abdul-Jabbar.

The Bucks traded a Center that they knew was one of the best players in the history of the NBA. The threw championship hopes out the window and got role players in return.

It's different from the Pippen trade, as lopsided as that trade was.

Pippen was considered an interesting prospect out of the University of Central Arkansas, but there was no way to be sure he would become a bonafide NBA star.

They weren't throwing there Championship hopes out. As I said, they made the trade to improve. The next season after trading Kareem, they finish with the exact same record as last season: 38-44, and actually made the Playoffs after winning the Division Title. They almost beat the Pistons that same Playoffs, but lost 2-1. Thats quite an improvement, almost going to the 2nd Round, after not even making the Playoffs last season with one of the greatest centers of all time in Kareem. Two of the Players they got: Junior Bridgeman and Brian Winters became two of the best players in Bucks History, behind the Big O and Kareem, even getting his jersey retired by the team, while the last player from the deal went on to average 15.6 PPG with the Bucks. That was a pretty good deal in my perspective, for both Winters and Bridgeman helped lead the Bucks to 7 Playoffs, out of the 9 seasons since they went to the Bucks. Quite an improvement for a team who didn't make the Playoffs 2 times in that span.

And for you Pippen arguement: So Polynice was considered a better prospect than Pippen?
College Averages:
Pippen:17.2 PPG , 8.1 rpg, 2.7 apg, and 2.1 SPG
Polynice: 12.1 PPG and 7 RPG

The thing with Pippen and Polynice is tragic but simple: they were both top prospects that year; Pippen was selected #5 and Polynice #8.

They were immediately traded, rookie for rookie, prospect for prospect.

Of course, now we all know Pippen turned out to be the better player in what was a very lopsided trade. But both sides gambled, at the time.

Very different from the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar trade, where the Bucks traded a proven MVP, All-Star, Finals MVP and All-NBA member, for weak role players.

You keep saying that the Bucks landed good talent with that trade.

Let us keep it real.

Were these guys worthy of losing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar?

- Elmore Smith - a Center who never had a single All-Star appearance or any personal accolades worth mentioning. This was the C they got in return for KAJ. By the way, Smith only played 1 season in Milwaukee.

- Brian Winters - probably the best player that the Bucks got in this trade. A solid in unspectacular player. Solid but certainly not a star.

- Dave Meyers - only played 4 seasons in the NBA.

- Junior Bridgeman - a 6th man.

I'd say the Lakers are still smiling today, looking at this trade.

July 4, 2009  12:17 PM ET

You make good arguements too Hyped :) This is goin to be nice!

July 4, 2009  12:33 PM ET

At the time, Olden was a reliable center. Same thing with the Kobe trade and vlade. AT THE TIMES those trades favored the person getting the center, who knew the people would pan out at the time. This TD is whack as everyone has perfect vision in hind sight. I'd rather see the TD with the obvious bad trades; Gasol trade, Telfair for lottery draft pick etc...

July 4, 2009  12:39 PM ET

They make your TD lol if you'd rather see it.

July 4, 2009  12:40 PM ET

I might even make after this or tommorow. Title: The Top 3 Worst Trades in the 21st Century hehe

July 4, 2009  12:48 PM ET

And Scottie Pippen Avg. 17.2 PPG , 8.1 rpg, 2.7 apg, and 2.1 SPG

while Polynice Avg. 12.1 PPG and 7 RPG in College. Scottie Pippen was a better prospect at the time.

July 4, 2009  12:54 PM ET

What about Nowitzki for Tractor Trayler.

Randy Foye for Brandon Roy

RJ for Eddie Griffin

but I like left's better

July 4, 2009  01:01 PM ET

Thx dude! Those were some horrible trades you listed, but none has helped to get some Championships. Closes thing was RJ, with 2 Final Appearances with the Nets. Maybe if he wins a few with the Spurs...... it could belong to one of the worst trades of All-Time......

July 4, 2009  01:10 PM ET

What about the Gasol trade?

July 4, 2009  01:14 PM ET

Kwame Brown for Caron Butler
Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol

July 4, 2009  01:31 PM ET

Gasol Trade is definetely in Top 10 to me, but not Top 3. These guys one multiple championships. Kwame Brown trades were just sad lol.

Good 2nd argument by L1RK1N.

I haven't checked 1/2 of what you said to be true but I'm assuming it is. No vote yet.

July 4, 2009  02:59 PM ET

Thx. Don't worry, all facts.

July 4, 2009  03:02 PM ET

The Bucks had the same record the next season, but still won their division and went to the playoffs next season. Losing to Detroit in the 1st Round 2-1. How ironic.

July 4, 2009  03:11 PM ET

But when the Bucks had the same record with Kareem, they were last in their division and didn't make the Playoffs. Damn, I have to be saying all this in the comments, pathetic lol.

July 4, 2009  03:56 PM ET

Oh Ya! On your arguement, you listed the years Kareem got into the All-NBA 1st Team. How come the last year was on 1974? Didn't they got into the Finals, although they lost, that was quite an accomplishment right? Most would think that the Bucks would be a favorite again to go to the Finals the next season, but no. They finished 38-44, last in their division, no playoffs, kareem injured. The Bucks needed change during the time, and they did it with trading Kareem.

July 4, 2009  04:08 PM ET

The Celts didn't exactly get Mchale in that trade they traded there #1 pick to golden state for Parrish and Golden States #1 which they then drafted Mchale, How about Rick robey for Dennis Johnson,
