BUTTMAN said 09/29, 04:12 PM
I don't think he has played long enough to be characterized as one of the NFL's greatest and that's what the H.O.F. is.
Yes the SuperBowl Titles and the 50 TD passes show he is a great QB but he's only been in the league for 7 full seasons and I don't think 7 full seasons is enough to enshrine anyone in the Hall of Fame.

I think that if you win 3 superbowls, lose a 4th, throw for 50 td's in one season you are a Hall of Famer regardless of the rest of your years in the league.
4 Superbowls, 3 Superbowl Titles, 2 Superbowl MVP's, 1 League MVP.
That's Hall of Fame Material in my book.
BUTTMAN said 09/29, 04:36 PM
His numbers during a 5 year span are impressive. There is no doubt about that but to be considered one of the greatest you need Longevity as well as numbers. He's played 7 full seasons. Let's see where he is at at the end of his 10th season before you put him amongst the Legends of the Game.
If he has just average NFL numbers over the next 3 seasons you can induct him in but that's not your TD statement. YOUR TD STATEMENT IS "If Tom Brady retired right now would he make the H.O.F.??? " and my answer to that is no. He might eventually get in on a mercy/compassion vote but I don't think he should be considered a Hall Of Famer as of yet.

My return argument is stated in Post # 28 by Fannation member "Southern Discomfort".
Refer to that.

I think he goes in regardless of anything that happens now. Not only does he have 3 rings, but when you start making a list of which Patriots should be in the HOF, the list starts with him (not counting the coach).

Right nailed it... not enough time in the league to truly merit it.
If he continues playing for another 3-4 seasons and just has average numbers he will be a shoo-in but he needs those extra numbers.

If he got injured again and decided to just call it quits with the life and wife he has.....I say eventually yes but he wouldnt be the 1st ballot most people think he would be.

I am not even certain he would be in based off his numbers. He would have to get in based on what could have been as much as what was.

Really, Orr???
I know me and you have disagreed but he would get in.
Look at Aikman's numbers.

I agree he doesn't go in if he hangs it up today. But that's beside the point. What the hell kind of opening argument is that, left?

Aikman started 165 to Brady's 116... that is 49 starts. Three full seasons!
Like I said, if he did 3-4 more seasons (bringing him to Aikman's numbers) with even just average production I think he would make it. As of right now, the resume is just too small in the opinion of this Patriots fan.

I love the guy, I just think he would need more time to make it in.
Even if the guy went 24-24 over the next three seasons and only had 3000 yards a year with 15TD to 10 INT he would make it in. But at this very instance, I say no.

In 49 fewer games Brady posted more ypg and had 35 more TD's.
Yeh, yeah, I know Aikman had Emmitt, whatever but the man was barely 1-1 in TD's to INT's.

No shock, we disagree again.
And like I stated, hate, no thats a strong word. I dislike the Pats.

And I don't think Aikman really belongs in the Hall.
They also played in different eras... int rates have been steadily going down for years.
Also, how does number of games played impact ypg?

agreed. he's in, but not first ballot. the journalists, etc. who have votes are too much up the Pats butt

Guess we just disagree on what is required to make the HoF.
I think he is the best QB in the game right now and a likely first-ballot guy but think it is still too early for him to be a lock for Canton.

Aikman=199.6ypg.
Would that have even placed top 15 last year in the NFL?
