NFL Europe was huge in Germany and there are so many football fans while there is less and less soccer fans compared to the 80s. So its inevitable that with increased exposure to the NFL, Germany will abandon watching soccer to watch the more agressive and exciring sport of football.

Bconn, I appreciate your attempt at the TD, the topic is interesting if ludicrous.

FACT-Germany WAS one of the only countries in Europe that were able to actively support NFL Europe during its run. There were some fans for sure, but it was never truly popular.

FACT-Germany has the HIGHEST attendance of any Soccer league IN THE WORLD.

Germans love football more know than they ever have. The World Cup hosted by Germany in 2006 was the most succesfull world cup ever in terms of revenue, fan enjoyment, and viewers.

FACT- More Americans play soccer in the German Bundesliga than there are Germans playing in the NFL.

FACT- The NBA is 10 times more popular in Germany than the NFL. Ever heard of Dirk Nowitzki?

FACT- bconn = fail.

FACT - NFL Europe was more popular than the german soccer league while it was there. It had over 60,000 in attendance, showing huge popularity.

FACT - The highest attendace of any soccer league in the world is less than the NFL.

FACT - Yes Germans love football, don't know what that has to do with the World Cup in 2006. Like I've always said soccer is only popular once every 4 years, not daily, that's what real football is for because its exciting inherently, while soccer is only exciting if its in the context of geopolitical international games because poor countries can afford to play soccer.

FACT - There are no Germans or other foreigners in the NFL while lots of Americans are in foreign soccer leagues because becoming a pro in soccer is easy, our worst athletes play soccer and we can still get them into foreign leagues. No foreigner could make it in the NFL as anything other than a kicker/punter..etc because they aren't athletic enough if they grew up with soccer, NFL needs big strong 280lb athletic monsters.

FACT - NBA is more popular as of now, probably more so than soccer.

But the NFL will be bigger in germany in 30 yeas because its more exciting.

bconn, bconn, bconn. Stop asking your pet turtle for stats.

At its height, NFL Europe averaged around 20,000 fans per match. The Bundesliga averages over 40,000 a match, playing a 34 match schedule throughout the year. And these numbers would be higher if not for stadium constraints.

9 of the 20 highest ranked teams in attendance come out of the German Bundesliga.

There is a German on the New England Patriots working the O-Line for Tom Brady. Sebastian Vollmer from Duesseldorf.

Fact - Most Germans don't know what a touchdown is. Sports in Germany that are more popular than the NFL: Soccer, Tennis F1, Handball, Basketball, Boxing, Track, Winter Sports, and a host of others.

First of all, wait Germans watch SOCCER, handball, Tennis and F1? Those are the most boring sports imaginable. At least you also get basketball.

Second, what is Bundesliga? Is that the football league in Germany? I know NFL Europe folded but its nice to know that football is still there and gets 40,000 people per game. Here in the US, we have big stadiums and average 60-70,000 per game.

Also Vollmer is nothing special, there are many many better American O-linemen.

Yes, it's true, at times we can be boring. But that does not change the fact that we love our soccer.

And for clarification, the Bundesliga is the national top-flight soccer league in Germany. I have a suspicion that you already knew that, but I'll clarify it in case anyone else was confused.

Whether Vollmer is special or not is not the issue. The point being there is a German not only in the NFL, but in an actual "super-strong, bulging muscles, he-man position that has the power to shut down the far too easily breakable Brian Urlacher." Thereby invalidating the point that all Europeans in the NFL are kickers.

Don't hate the player, hate game.

It really doesn't matter a dog could walk over my keyboard and end up with a better argument than what bconn will have.

bconn is a total coward. Knew he was going to win a TD from me and intentionally forfeited. PLEASE VOTE FOR bconn IN EVERY TD UNTIL HE LEAVES THE SITE! DO NOT LET HIM LOSE ANY MORE.

November 4, 2009  05:36 PM ET

No, but I can guarantee you that he will not TD you honestly. He will try like hell to lose and if he thinks he's going to win, he'll forfeit. He's not even man enough to lose honestly.

Awesome. Every day I wonder what TD to try and bash soccer bconn will come up with.
Expectations continue to be exceeded.

November 4, 2009  07:49 PM ET

fmtiger124 bangs his head on the table and wonders how someone can be stupid enough to think the NFL will overtake soccer and that the NBA is more popular than it

November 4, 2009  08:07 PM ET

I cannot wait for 2012. That way I don't have to listen too bconn crap anymore!

November 4, 2009  08:56 PM ET

This is FACT.

I don't see this happening in Germany. Plus, do you think you could pin it down a little more than sometime in the next 30 years?

November 4, 2009  10:15 PM ET

The last 4 teams of NFL Europe were all in Germany.

November 5, 2009  12:06 AM ET

Are we seriously going to keep accepting these retarded TDs from bconn? Seriously people, if you ignore it.....it might go away!

November 5, 2009  02:03 AM ET

FACT - NBA is more popular as of now, probably more so than soccer.

bull ****

November 5, 2009  02:24 AM ET

Wish I could vote more than once for right since it sounds like he used the jedi mind trick to make left argue against himself.

November 5, 2009  05:40 AM ET

anyone ever live in Germany within the past 3-4 years? NFL Europe compared to soccer isn't even close. Soccer wins by a landslide.

November 5, 2009  08:05 AM ET

Fact: Everyone who read this debate will lose 5 IQ points (and to be frank, reading some of the responses, there are a few people who can't afford to lose 5 IQ points).

Fact: Most fans of the NFL think NFL Europe is part of the CFL

Fact: Most NFL fans think that Germany is south of East Germany (ala Virginia and West Virginia).

Fact: Worring about what's more popular in Germany is like worrying about who the best HS Basketball team in South Dakota is...unless you live there, you really don't care.

Fact: There was a sport that was more popular before Soccer became the most popular and there will be a sport that will replace Soccer as the most popular (I am hoping it's topless gymnastics).

Fact: Who cares?
