Football is the greatest and most important sport on the planet

Here is my reasoning:

1. No other sport requires as much strenght, athleticism and intelligence. NFL players could play any other sport, while no other type of athletes could play in the NFL, except maybe a few elite centers from the NBA.

2. NFL is the most All-American thing since apple pie and baseball had a child named Mark McQuire.

3. NFL is a professional sport that has a college side bigger than the actual professional sport in terms of attendance. Also its not in the Olympics, meaning that its one of those sports like baseball which is above amateurism. Players earn millions and teams are worth billions.

4. Superstars like Peyton Manning and Brian Urlacher play football, they reflect the working class good ol' American pragmatism that is lost on the ghetto superstars of the NBA and increased hispanicization of the MLB, as well as the overall Canadian-ness of the NHL.

5. Its the most exciting sport period. No other sport gets as many people psyched up and no other sport gets as much importance placed on it on ESPN and all other sports media networks.

BCONN - Man, WTF!!!

Argument...
1)"No other sport requires as much strenght, athleticism and intelligence" - Three Words...WONDERLICK VINCE YOUNG (most Intellegent???)

2)"NFL is the most All-American thing since apple pie and baseball had a child named Mark McQuire." - Bro, you bury your argument with comments like this...

3) In a global economy, the football economy isn't global. It stays with the teams and the League

4) Seriously??? "ghetto, hispanicization, Canadian-ness" You just proved how these other sports are more important to the globe b/c of their diversity and the many markets they can influence. I.E. - YAO MING...Tell me if ANY sport has done a better job reaching China than the NBA. Just look at the last Olympics and how many Chinese love Kobe...

5)ESPN is an AMERICAN network...If you look at ESPN Deportes, they cover soccer...

BCONN, I'm sorry man, but you shoot yourself in the foot (Padilla) with these arguments...if you would have said football was the most important sport in America, you might have a solid argument...

1) Terrible arguement.

2) ?

3) Football is the biggest money generating sport in the world, it dominates the global economy.

4) NBA's ghetto gangsta image, MLB's hispanicization and NHL's Canadian identity have made these sports less popular than the NFL, which has a clean, good, patriotic All-American image.

5) Nobody watches ESPN Deportes.

What a joker...

Hello, can we over this? How can people agree with you that football isn't the greatest sport of all time?

Name me one league as exciting as the NFL, with as many BIG HITS, big 280lb monsters getting JACKED UP! and big scores, big fireworks, great commericals, hot cheerleaders, big crowds, so much media attention?

Look at the world series, it passed by and no one cared because the MVP wasn't even American, but the nation comes to a halt when the Super Bowl is on.

NFL has the greatest atheltes in the world. This is a fact, no other sport has 6'4 280lb guys who could rip a phonebook with their bare hands. That type of power is so impressive and exciting.

NFL also has the best fantasy aspect, because you can compare so many statistics.

Yawn...

No other sports require intelligence like football? Have you met a football player, most are dumb as doorknobs.

This bcongemini gimmick is starting to get tiring

November 4, 2009  05:05 PM ET

How is the "greatest and most important sport in the world" have anything to do with being the most all-American. Wouldn't you want the most all-global sport?

Bconn JUST STOP!!!!

This is ridiculous, if you haven't convinced anybody in your first 30 attempts I am pretty sure you won't in your next 30 attempts.

bconn is a total coward. Knew he was going to win a TD from me and intentionally forfeited. PLEASE VOTE FOR bconn IN EVERY TD UNTIL HE LEAVES THE SITE! DO NOT LET HIM LOSE ANY MORE.

I'm not even reading this ****'s posts anymore. I just check which TD's he is in and vote against him.

Hey left...

Brian Urlacher is hardly the guy you want to promote as being working class AND a great guy. An absentee father who treated his ex like trash. Nice...

And if you think Football players are better than hockey players, you truly are delusional...

Let's see...

OJ Simpson. Would you let him date your sister? Your mom??
Ray Lewis. Hopefully you and your friends don't get in an argument with Ray and HIS friends...
Leonard Little. Hmm - only a matter of time before he ties ANOTHER one on and gets behind the wheel. I hope he doesn't kill someone close to you next time...
PacMan. Let it rain. It rained so hard a guy is now paralyzed. Yeah, he's the guy you want as your ambassador...
Rae Carruth. ****. Again, would you let him have a child with your sister?? Your mom??
Mike Vick. Be sure to let him dog sit for you....

Stop the foolishness. More thugs in the NFL than in any other sport. Even the NBA...

That's a true statement.

November 5, 2009  09:43 AM ET

most athleticism that a bold statement seein as how soccer players run non stop for 2 45 min halves. I love american football, but i dont see any football player bein able to do that. thats stamina nfl players dont have some can barely play 2 plays before gettin a rest

November 5, 2009  11:08 AM ET

'nother dumb TD about how your opinion is fact...

This is junk, make a blog about this stuff, not TD. There's nada to argue about.

Goto Brazil and pitch this arguement.

November 5, 2009  11:58 AM ET

FACT: Once again Left is out of his damn mind!!

A jockey is as much of athlete as anyone else. Just try controlling a beast like that at high speed.....NOT EASY!

American football is a very specialised game, and the people who perform their positions are VERY ELITE..........soccer players on the other hand, must play the full match and adjust accordingly.

APPLES AND PEARS ANYONE?

I encourage all to read this piece of good research:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/sportSkills

not exactly the "best" countdown, but rates sports by skill level. Football rates high, but not tops.
