Make your picks first and we will make the argument on the second round.

MVP - Peyton Manning
Offensive Rookie of the year - Percy Harvin
Defensive Rookie of the Year - Brian Cushing
Defensive player of the year - Darren Sharper
Comeback player of the year - Tom Brady
Mr. Underestimated - Aaron Rodgers

NFL Mid-Season Awards

Solid picks by Left, my changes in BOLD.

MVP - Peyton Manning
I would have liked to have argued Tony Romo (seriously - check out his numbers) but C-C-C and CDave would have had a fit and playing referee between these 2 gives me a headache.

Offensive Rookie of the year - Percy Harvin
No one really stands out to challenge Harvin... except this young man, Austin Collie. But Harvin does give you big plays on Special Teams so it would be difficult to argue for Collie.

Defensive Rookie of the Year - Brian Cushing
Exceptional numbers by a rookie, I thought about this kid, Jairus Byrd but Cushing holds the edge.

Defensive player of the year - Jared Allen
Argue later.

Comeback player of the year - Tom Brady
What can you say, he is back, just look at the last 2 games.

Mr. Underestimated - Wes Welker
Argue later.

Good luck.

I exceeded the character limit for the argument so I will argue DPOY this round and Mr. Underestimated on the next round.

The New Orleans Safety is on the verge of tying two records: most interceptions returned for touchdowns and most interception return yards. He has 7 interceptions (1st in NFL) with three of them resulting in a touchdown (1st in NFL). The record for most "pick-sixes" in a season is four, held by Eric Allen, Ken Houston and Jim Kearney. Sharper has 11 career interceptions for a touchdown, one shy of record holder Rod Woodson. The most impressive stat this season is the the 45.3 yard average after the interception. Rod Woodson holds the record for most interception return yards (1,483). Darren Sharper is less than 150 yards away from breaking that record.

Some may argue that Jared Allen of the Vikings is leading the race, but the truth is that 7.5 of his 10.5 sacks came against a struggling Green Bay offensive line.

Defensive player of the year

I'm a fan of Sharper.

But consider this. How many players does Sharper have to go through to get the man with the ball?

Does Sharper have to go against a double or triple team like Allen?

QBs that Sharper played? 2 rookies Stafford & Sanchez, 2 posers as QBs Trent Edwards & Henne, you call that competition?

You gotta give it up to a guy who faces a couple of linemen, a RB or FB to protect the QB or bring down the runner, Jared Allen gives the Vikings Fans a belief that the Purple Monsters of the Midway are back!

Mr. Underestimated

How can you underestimate Rodgers? Rodgers showed last year that he can play QB for Green Bay with the talented WRs that they have and a good RB in Grant. Rodgers this year has been a top 5 selection in most Fantasy Leagues.

Time & time again, you never want to believe that this little player can get it done... but he continually does and this year is no exception. Wes Welker continues to work miracles with his 5' 9" body, with a trend of WRs being drafted with 6' 2" or taller in mind, Welker breaks the mold and shows that quality route running & chemistry with the QB works just as well.

Farve has been gone for two years but yet they still ask him questions about his days in Green Bay. Rodgers has done everything he can to get out of Brett Farve's shadow. How long is it going to take? He does not get the respect he deserve. He is never mentioned as a top QB.

He leads the league in Passer Rating (110.4) and yards per pass attempt (8.8).He has completed 65.3% of his passes for 1,989 yards and 14 touchdowns. He has a 7-to-1 touchdown to interception ratio.

The Packers record (4-3) is not indicative of Rodgers' play. He has been sacked more times (31) than any other QB this year and still hoists good numbers. Rodgers is on pace for his second straight 4,000 yards and 25+ touchdown season.

Jared has played the worse offensive line (Green Bay) in the NFL twice. They have given up 31 sacks. Like I said before 7.5 of his 10.5 sacks came against them. He also played three of the worse teams in the NFL(Browns,Rams,Det).

I also like Welker (He is a former Dolphin). I guess thats why I don't see him as underestimated. I've always known his ability. Welker gets more credit than Rodgers.

If you consider Rodgers to be UNDERESTIMATED then why would the Packers let Favre go? As an organization, you would have had confidence that Rodgers can perform well as Quarterback in the first place. Rodgers was drafted in the 1st RD, so he should be expected to do well.

Wes Welker on the other hand was not drafted at all. Clearly most of the NFL didn't believe that Welker could do what he has been doing for the past couple of years.

As far as Jared Allen being a better candidate for Defensive Player, all you have to know is that in football the tenches is where the war is won. When you've been performing like Allen has in the past, you'll get double or triple teamed on throughout the game, & Allen has done well enough to effect the game and it's outcome.

Sharper covers one man, or plays zone coverage, who does he have to get to make a play? Sharper has been cherry picking on fresh meat at the QB spot like Sanchez & Stafford. How about the great QB play of Henne & Edwards? 4 QBs that have no chance of making the Pro Bowl this year.

No one expects anything from a player that was not drafted and clearly it takes more work to get any success down in the trenches.

Decent picks. Wish I had gotten this one kind of because there are a few changes I would make.

November 4, 2009  11:09 PM ET

There are a lot of Candidates for that MVP slot this year.

November 4, 2009  11:24 PM ET

didnt know Mr. Underestimated was a real award hahha

November 4, 2009  11:32 PM ET

I notice you have DPOY and DROY, but only OROY and not OPOY... any particular reason... and for OPOY - Drew Brees.

November 4, 2009  11:35 PM ET

Change comeback to Cedric Benson

Coming back from what? A terrible career? Fail.

And I hope Pi doesn't argue Brees for MVP. That guy was thew QB of the same team last year, and they didn't sniff the post season.. hard to argue he is the Most Valuable to his team.

November 5, 2009  01:30 AM ET

Manning for MVP. It's an easy decision.

OPOY, in my opinion, is a glorified runner up to MVP. I would still pick Manning for OPOY:

Manning has been the most complete player this year -excelling in every aspect of the passing game. His stats speak for themselves:

Passing Yards - 2227 (2nd in NFL)
Passer Rating - 109.3 (2nd in NFL)
Completion Percentage - 71.1 (1st in NFL)
Yards per/g - 318.1 (1st in NFL)
Touchdowns - 15 (2nd in NFL)

November 5, 2009  06:32 AM ET

Offensive Rookie of the Year: WR, Percy Harvin

What can't you say about Percy Harvin? When the Minnesota Vikings drafted him out of Florida they knew they were getting a play maker. Every time the ball touches his hands he has the ability to break off for big gains.

Harvin has done most of his damage as a kickoff returner, as his 30.7 yards per return tops the NFL. In the process, he has scored two touchdowns, including a 101-yard return.

As a 4th option for Brett Favre, Harvin has caught 28 passes for 369 yards and 3 touchdowns.

November 5, 2009  06:32 AM ET

Defensive Rookie of the Year: LB, Brian Cushing

The USC standout is 6th in the league with 66 tackles. He is always around the ball carrier and is disciplined in wrapping up opposing players.

With a young defense around him, the best is yet to come.

Cushing has two interceptions, two forced fumbles, one touchdown and a safety. His 7 pass deflections puts him atop all linebackers in the league.

November 5, 2009  06:32 AM ET

Comeback Player of the Year: QB, Tom Brady

Did you expect anyone else after he missed all but one quarter last season?

Brady has the Patriots at 5-2 and on top of the AFC East. He isn't back to the standard he set in 2007, but he is back to competitive form.

He is on pace to thr0w over 30 touchdowns and his 3rd 4,000-yard season.

November 5, 2009  10:50 AM ET

Mr. Underestimated- Mike Wallace I know its kind of a homer pick but wow that guy is good.

November 5, 2009  10:53 AM ET

how can left use the argument that Sharper is coming close to breaking CAREER records as basis for an argument? It isn't a lifetime acievement award now, is it? I agree that he is the DPOY, but thats a weak argument...

November 5, 2009  11:05 AM ET

At least no one mentioned that 'tard QB from the Vikings.

November 5, 2009  11:08 AM ET

Jared Allen...solid pick
Brees & Manning ... will probably split the MVP or Offensive Player of the Year awards

I agree with you, but just an FYI not sure what touchdown you are reffering to.

November 5, 2009  11:59 AM ET

So thankful there's an actual TD going on now. Can't wait to see more.

November 5, 2009  12:29 PM ET

I don't like the Jared Allen pick. He has 7.5 of his 10 sacks against Aaron Rodgers. For the midseason award, I would definitely pick Sharper

Sorry, I meant just a safety

he is on the verge of breaking two season records this here. Yards after INT and INT for a Touchdown. If he doubles his INT total he will tie the Season record.
