Obviously, I'm biased being a Dodgers fan. Granted, they haven't played each other in a couple of years, but Ned and the boys are working on it. There are several sports teams that I love to see FAIL miserably. The Dallas Cowboys ranks up there. Along with the Eagles. The Giants kind of suck too. (OK, I'm a closet Skins fan ... but the Redskins just suck overall).

I digress. Maybe it's the 27 championships. Maybe it's the payroll. George? Reggie? A-Rod? (Jeter is cool ... just not in pinstripes). That's another thing - pinstripes. When did these jerks gain a monopoly naming a type of uniform??? Just because it made the Babe look more svelte doesn't warrant a copyright on your outfit name!!!

Bottom line - I hate the Yankees. No other sports team comes close. Not the Tarheels. Not the Patriots. Not the Gators.

If the Yankees were playing the University of Baghdad, I would root for the Iraqis.

BTW - if I loss this throwdown, I'm claiming East Coast Bias.

Well in the United States you may be right. The Yankees are hated for several reasons:
1. High Payroll
2. We win. A lot.
3. We can be arrogant about that.

But if you consider the world as a whole I think you are wrong. The Yankees have come to represent a lot of great things to people around the world. I've been to third world countries and seen people wearing Yankees hats. I ask them if they know much about baseball. No those are just the guys who win. A lot. As a team the Yankees have won so much over the past hundred years that they not only are known for winning but they embody winning. So while baseball fans in places like Boston, LA, or Minnesota might hate the Yankees but overall the Yankees liked. Cause everybody loves the winners.

Also you have to look at the history of the franchise. Great moments seem to gravitate to the Yanks. Love them or hate them, you have to respect things like Lou Gehrig's final speech, Reggie's 3 HR, Jeter becoming Mr. November. It was great baseball. Moments like that are why we watch the sport. Moments like that make baseball great.

Ohhhhhh ... Yo, I'm New Yo-wark!!! Check out my World Championship hat and Flag Thingy on my cawr ...

The Yankees are a pariah to baseball. There is no concept of a farm team. The Columbus Clippers used to be there farm team. Now their farm team is merely the other 31 teams in MLB. I actually like Jeter. I respect Jeter. He plays the game for the right reasons ... with heart, passion, and he is loyal to his organization. But check out the roster for the Yanks between their last two World Series victories ... it's a revolving door of All-Stars from other teams.

Everybody hates the Yankees because one of "their boys" is playing in the Bronx. Case in point, I swung by a bar today after work for a cold one (or two). The '96 Series was on. I'll name a player. Think of the team you associate that player with:

Tim Raines
Wade Boggs
Cecil Fielder
Darryl Strawberry
Kenny Rogers

Was it New Yo-wark?? Or was it Montreal, Boston, Detroit, Texas, or the "other New York"?

College team are easy to hate/love because of geographics and school ties.

The Yankees are easy to hate because while they do win all the time, it's at everyone else's "expense".

Yeah. Absolutely no concept of a farm team. Guys like Melky Cabrera, Brett Gardner, Phil Coke, and Robinson Cano are total flukes that have been stolen from other teams. As for your claims about the 96 yankees:
A. Raines was TRADED to the Yankees. This is something everybody does.
B. The year before he joined the Yankees Boggs hit .259. People said he was done, but the Yankees took a risk on signing him.
C. Fielder was also TRADED. Trades are not evil. They are part of baseball. THe yankees just made good trades not evil signings.
D. When Strawberry signed with the Yankees he was a 33 year old and seemingly on the downturn of his career. Once again the Yankees took a risk on an aging player and it paid off.
E. rogers was signed! One big free agent pickup is pretty common amonsgst baseball teams. No one complains when the Sox took Jason Bay!
Also look at players on the 96 Yankees who were NOT pickups. Jeter, Pettite, Rivera, Williams. All Yankees born and bred.
And as for winning at the other teams expense?
The Yankees make money. A lot of it. YES is a cash cow and because of their notoriety Yankees stuff sells. We have the cash to get free agents so we get them.

Let me close with this - I don't HATE the Yankees.

There are very few things I do hate (intolerance, the snooze button, & gum on the bottom of your shoe).
The Babe is an icon. I would have loved to party with Mantle. Yogi is a classic. Jeter is da man!
That said: I LOVE to root against them. I thought the 2004 playoffs were epic. Yankees=FAIL is what every non-Yankee fan wants to see.
I'm not going to get into semantics over who the Yankees have traded for, picked up, or stolen off of other teams. When champagne is being poured over a player in pinstripes that used to be on YOUR team, it kinda pisses you off. It's just different in this modern era of free agency. When the Braves won the World Series in '95, most of those players had also won the Governor's Cup for the AAA championship when those players were Richmond Braves! They were a team, not an assembly of interlopers.
I'll be the first to admit that my Dodgers are going down the same path. When you have the money, it's easier to be the vulture than to farm the talent. The Yankees are just the biggest vulture. Congratulations on "buying" your latest championship.

Check that ... I do HATE the Yankees.

Every team trades and picks up free agents. If you hate the Yankees for that then you should stop watching baseball as every game will feature a former dodger or whatever team you like.

But the real issue is are the Yankees the most hated franchise?

I don't think so. Look at the hat going to places like Philly, Dallas, and New England. In football EVERYBODY hates the cowboys. They are more pretentious than even the Yankees. We claim only the title Bronx Bombers not 'AMERICAS TEAM'! Plus they had TO. He makes me angry. Philly fans are famous for being ****-y and that translates to hate for the teams.
And the big bad Patriots. With guys like Tom 'we're only gonna win by 17 points?' Brady and the beli-cheat on the sidelines it is easy to hate them.

Personally I think it is close between the Yankees, Cowboys, and Patriots. But with the cheating allegations and their arrogance in '07 I think the Pats take it. Not only were they total **** but they were cheaters too. Over their dynasty everyone west of the Hudson River has come to hate them. But hey, the cowboys are pretty bad too.

Let me hold onto this for a few mins.

November 5, 2009  08:33 PM ET

Not exactly sure why everyone hates on the Eagles... what have they done to earn the hate?

November 5, 2009  08:33 PM ET

BTW - if I loss this throwdown, I'm claiming East Coast Bias

i think you already loss this TD

November 5, 2009  08:33 PM ET

id say patriots

November 5, 2009  08:36 PM ET

Ha he made this TD to win, this is an EASY win. Everyone hates the Yankees, and if you dont hate them you love them, theres no in between.

November 5, 2009  08:41 PM ET

Patriots? Not even close. The Yankees have decades over the Patriots. There are 100 year-old baseball fans that hate the Yanks. The Patriots were terrible every year but one for 40 years. History locks it up for the Yankees. The old Brooklyn Dodgers, NY Giants, Boston Braves, Red Sox etc were all natural rivals. It's gonna be a tall order to make a case for anyone else.

NAMBLA's Softball team is the most hated sports team

Maybe you need to break it down into sports; The Yankees in the MLB, the Lakers in the NBA, Cowboys in the NFL, Duke in the NCAAB and FSU in the NCAAF

That's too easy ... all of sports. This is not as much as it a throwdown as it is a referendum that if you don't love the Yankees, you HATE the Yankees.

November 5, 2009  09:30 PM ET

Forgot to even mention Notre Dame.

I'll even mention Team Kyle Busch or Team Jeff Gordon.

Or Ric Flair ... the dirtest player in the game.

We all love to hate the Yankees more than anyone or team in ANY sport.

"loss this TD?" Might as well say loose this TD. It's obvious the school taxes I've paid over the last 30+ years have been money well spent. " East Coast Biasi'? Good Lord, spending too much time putting a condom on a zucchini?

November 5, 2009  10:08 PM ET

Love them or hate them...

First "typo" - yes, my bad. Already responded to that on Post 7.

Second "typo" - combo from Quote #3 and my repsonse (also on Post 7).

But thanks for the constructive criticism. I'll sleep well tonight.

Probably Cowboys...

Ok, you win... The Yankees are the most hated team in ALL sports

November 5, 2009  11:31 PM ET

C'mon. The most hated team in sports will always be The Soviet Union (CCCP).

Unless you count the Nazi team in Victory.
