Compile the best pitching rotation consistent of players who have played the past twenty-five years. Five starters, and one closer. (I dont want to hear any discussion about steroids on here either) List first argue second.
1) Pedro Martinez
2) Greg Maddux
3) Roger Clemens
4) Randy Johnson
5) Dwight Gooden
CL) Mariano Rivera

5.) John Smoltz
CL Rivera
So thats two changes good luck.

I can somewhat understand the Gooden extract. But how are you can you honestly leave Greg Maddux off the list? What refutes that even more is the fact that Maddux was the ace of the Atlanta Brave's staff..... The same staff Smoltz and Glavine were on. It can be argued he was the best pitcher of the past fifty years, he was most certainly the best on the Braves.
Maddux
355-227/ 3.16 ERA/ 3,371 K's/ .610 W-L%
Glavine
305-203/ 3.54ERA/ 2,607 K's/ .600 W-L%
Smoltz
213-159/ 3.33 ERA/ 3,084 K's/ .579 W-L%
I'll Argue the Gooden selection in my next argument.

If I was not going on a hike this weekend, I would take this. I see one obvious change and at least one other change, especially since this is a rotation not necessarily the top 5.

As a fan of the team of the person I think you are thinking of, he does not deserve to be on the list. He was not dominate long enough. I would take a player off the current roster of the team instead and potentially 2 former pitchers from the same team.

He was better than both of those guys, just didnt have the longer career......Did two of those guys happen to play with a certain pitcher on my list?

One did, too bad he was not good enough for the team we are talking about.

Just an obvious comment. it's good to see a td where both left and right are gentlemen, and people are stating their opinions without calling others morons. I think a td like this is one of the most interesting. It's like saying, okay, name your all-time outfield among anyone who ever played that position. You can make an awful lot of arguments for players, there's an embarrassment of riches as the saying goes.

Halladay would have a spot on my lsit. Amazing stats for playing on a sub .500 team for most of his career. If he played for yankees or Red Sox he'd on everyones list.
