Benching Steve Slaton is the worst idea in the world. He is your best back in team history so far. And your going to bench him over a fumble. Then for that matter let's bench every running back in the NFL over a fumble. Because everyone has fumble before. And not many have be benched for it.

Over "A" fumble?

Lets take a few things into percpective.

Do I totally agree with the Texans benching him? no, not totally, however I understand why and I will explain.

2009 Season under (42.8 Rushing YPG)

0 - 100 Yard Rushing Games
1 - Bad Season
2 - TDs
3 - Games without losing a fumble
4 - Games averaging under 2.4 YPC
5 - Lost Fumbles
6 - Games with 65 yards or Less
7 - Fumbles
8 - Games Played

Compare these stats to his rookie season last year and you will see he has fallen in just about every catagorie.

On top of that, Moats has come in and run for nearly 5 YPC and scored more Rushin TDs then Slaton in limited playing time. He has also yet to fumble the ball in his 38 carries. that is saying something since Slaton is fumbling the ball once every 15-16 carries.

Will Slaton be bench the entire season? Probably not, however they will address the issue of him protecting the football before letting him carry the load for this team. Certainly now that they have a back-up that has proven he is ready and willing to carry the football for this team.

So end of story is yes, he is benched and no they are not stupid for doing so.

So you would bench your best running back for a player who might had a one shot wonder of a game. Look you can compare his stats so far this year. But the only thing is that he is there best running back so far through there organization. You would want your team who has a great running back fumble the ball get benched. Really if they did many running backs int the NFL will get benched all the time. Yes 7 fumbles but pretty good running back. I just don't get why there going to bench him. For fumbles name me a another running on the Houston Texans organization ever who has done better then Steve Slaton. ----Can't think of one.

Here is examples of there running backs:

Ahman Green, Chris Brown, Ryan Moats, Ron Dayne, Vernard Morency and Dominick Davis. Just to name a few and Steve Slaton is better then all of them. Even if he has fumbles. He can progress and not make as many fumbles throughout the rest of the season.

For starters, Slaton had a big rookie season, it is too early to tell if he is or will be the bets RB the Texans have had in their SHORT existence.

I would rather start a RB who averages 4.8 YPC and has no fumbles then one who is averaging 2.7 YPC and has 7 fumbles. Wouldn't you?

In the two games Moats has gotten carries this season Moats averaged more YPC than Slaton.

You say a big game? Well maybe you should consider Moats has more 100 rushing games than Slaton does and hes only carried in 2 games.

You think that 7 fumbles in 8 games is ok? not in the NFL! That will cost you games week after week. I am not saying Slaton will be bench for the season nor will his starting job be gone for any long stretch. But I think it is a good move to give the ball to the hot hand and give Steve this time to let it sink in. He needs to protect the ball better. Him getting this job taken away from him will make him work harder and gives the team more time to work with him. He will be the starter again, don't get your panties in a bunch.

It sickens fans when there running back has a sophomore slump. And then he gets benched on a team who is having a good season anyways. Going with the hot hand is strange because they played the Buffalo Bills who are terrible a team. What happens when they vs Indianapolis Colts for 2 games. You would want a hot hand of Ryan Moats who only played 2 games in his career. Play a defense who is pretty tough. Then you think oh wait this isn't the player we thought. You would want a Slaton on the bench to come back in. You lose moreale over that player. Until they play a tough defense they should stick with Slaton. Look at there schedule the rest of the season. http://www.houstontexans.com/gameday/

Has he officially been benched? I got Ryan Moats in all my leagues[7] now.

Fumbling problem is one thing but he lost 5 so far this year and you just can't do that. He also isn't running very hard and seems little slower this year. I would say a running back that continues to loose the ball like has been will get benched at least for a little.

Texans haven't named their starter, so could be benched, probably not. He'll definitely be on a short leash....

1 season doesn't make him the best RB in team history. Dominic Davis is still the best.

I read an artical saying he will be bench on fox sports yesterday. Maybe I read it wrong but I under the impression he will not be starting this week, but I think he will still see equal playing time as moats does.

I heard the same thing.... I think it is probably a good idea to sit Slaton. He needs to put his head on straight and start working hard. He's costing the team games right now

They certainly can not afford these types of turn overs this week facing the Colts. I think they have a chance of stealing a game from the Colts, but TOs will make or break them. They will need an "A" game and right now Slaton is not playing his "A" game.

i must've missed it, last thing i read said Kubiak hadn't named a starter but was planning on giving all three RBs (Chris Brown being the other) carries. i personally don't think they should bench Slaton.... coach him on not fumbling but not bench him. Moats isn't the answer, the Bills have the worst rush defense in the league, they'd make any backup look like a star.

Well put. This game, against Indy, is the biggest test of the season and a tell all , IMO, if they will make the playoffs. If they are going to win this game, their run game needs to be top notch, and if Moats is the man getting it done, sit down Steven Slaton. There is no reason for Houston not to run all over Indy. They have a horrible run defense and it would be hove of them to expose that. Mixed with Schaub's offense, "should" be a good game.

Moats is on fire. Play the kid.

Just because Moats is starting doesn't mean that Slaton won't play, it's not like QB. Obviously Moats got his chance, Slaton will get his chance too.
