All things being equal, what would a dream BCS card look like?

NOT for 2009-2010, but rather a fantasy year...

I'm a casual follower of NCAAF, FSU being 'my team'... this is less about reality (actual wins & losses) & more about what BCS Bowl schedule would be the best match ups for fans, taking into account Bowl affiliations & balance... objectivity outweighing subjectivity.

This is all primarily based on program reputation + fan interest.

BCS Championship Game - Rose Bowl
Miami v Southern California.

There are enough ppl who can't stand Notre Dame that I would not love to see them here. These 2 are arguably the 2 'sexiest' programs in the land & they each have a tradition of showing up for big games.

Sugar Bowl
Florida v Syracuse

Syracuse has always been my favourite Big East program even if their football program has stepped back- nevertheless, arguably the highest profile sports program in the state of New York gets my nod for the Big East.

Fiesta Bowl
Nebraska v Ohio State

Nebraska still goes deeper for me than Oklahoma or Texas who seem to cancel one another out.

Orange Bowl
Florida State v Notre Dame

These 2 programs line up beautifully for a great game.

Rose Bowl
UCLA v Michigan

National Championship: Southern California vs Notre Dame

Rose Bowl: Michigan vs Texas

Fiesta Bowl: Nebraska vs Tennessee

Orange Bowl: Miami (FL) vs Pittsburgh

Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs Ohio State

National Championship: Every team has people who don't like them, but Notre Dame and USC are probably the top two teams in college football history. AND they are rivals. A matchup between the two would garner national attention and be a great game.

Rose Bowl: I don't have a Pac 10 team here because USC is in the title game, so an at large can replace them. Texas vs Michigan would be great.

Fiesta Bowl: I switched out Syracuse for Tennessee, and put a Big East team in the Orange Bowl (a much better spot). Tennessee and Nebraska are two of the most popular programs in college football, and both have great histories.

Orange Bowl: Florida State is a decent pick, but with ND in the title game I moved Miami (FL) to replace them. We both think that Miami (FL) is better, evident by your putting them in the N.C. game. Pittsburgh is the best team in the Big East, 9 national championships is impressive.

Sugar Bowl: Alabama has a better history than Florida.

OOR. Good Luck.

Tennessee is on a short list of teams I can't stand, so I'm obviously not going to call that a choice that I'd love to watch.
I'd put Alabama, LSU, & even Georgia ahead of them if I were including 2 SEC teams. But Florida has become the hotbed of the nation & the Gators have become one of the most reliable performers. Even as FSU & Miami have grown in stature, Florida quietly goes about its business & a lot of ppl respect & enjoy that.
+ I want Pac 10 v Big 10 Rose Bowl the way it should be

Notre Dame against USC does not get me more excited than a potential USC-Miami showdown. Sure the Irish have tradition, but I'm just tired of their act & I'd rather watch 2 superpowers beat heads. The Irish just do not command the same modern mystique that the Trojans or 'Canes have managed.

None of the Big 12 teams gets my personal love either, but I prefer seeing Nebraska representing the midwest rather than Texas. Nebraska is one of those respectable programs I love to hate, Texas & Oklahoma are teams that have never sparked anything for me.

Pittsburgh football doesn't have much moxie for me, I've always had a soft heart for Syracuse

"Tennessee is on a short list of teams I can't stand, so I'm obviously not going to call that a choice that I'd love to watch."

I wasn't aware that your personal opinion was the voice of the nation. Tennessee does in fact have a large amount of fans AND the history of a top college football program. I would argue that Tennessee is just as popular as Florida, the only difference being Tennessee has the better history.

"Notre Dame against USC does not get me more excited than a potential USC-Miami showdown."

This is nothing but an opinion. I would say that people would be MORE excited for ND-USC than Miami-USC because of the tradition between the two teams.

"I'm just tired of their act & I'd rather watch 2 superpowers beat heads."

This is a fantasy matcuhp, ND would be in their prime and a superpower. ND-USC is two historic superpowers and rivals, a game that would have more significance than USC-Miami.

As for Pitt/Syracuse, it's not that close. Pitt has the better history, and right now has more fans. I would know, I am a Syracuse fan.

lol of course my opinion matters, it's my own argument!

Florida has overtaken Tennessee in the SEC, the Vols just don't attract me in the least.

Miami is so much more exciting than Notre Dame it's not even funny... I'm arguing for the best matchups, & it takes more than just historic achievement to win me over.
Notre Dame has just grown completely stale for me, & every season when they tell us that they're back I get bored with their act. My dislike for Notre Dame keeps them out of my National Championship.
Miami v USC at their peaks would be completely & utterly awesome. 2 super heavyweights going head to head would be insanity. USC v Notre Dame would not be nearly as intriguing.

Pitt is never, has never, ever been on my radar. I've been exposed to the NCAA for years now & I have seen Syracuse's programs on my radar- hence, my interest in seeing them back on the big stage.

I guess it's a td between what I would want to see versus what you think history would want us to see. If I wanted a fantasy card I would not opt for what I've already seen & done.

"This is all primarily based on program reputation + fan interest."

This is from your first argument. I took this as meaning, to the national fans, what would be the best games. While your picks might appeal to you, my picks would have more widespread national appeal.

Even if you don't like ND, you cannot deny that they have fielded some of the most talented teams in history, as has USC. While Miami has had good teams as well, there would be more at stake in a ND-USC game as well as more interest. Both matchups would be good games, but the history and rivalry surrounding USC-ND is too great to ignore.

Pitt deserves the Big East nod over Syracuse. Recently, they are much more popular (even if you don't want to admit it) and have been much more competitive. They also have a much greater history than Syracuse. All around, Pitt is the better pick.

No matter how you try to spin it, the only things your games have going are an interest to YOU. However, these matchups wouldn't garner as much national appeal as my matchups. My BCS Card is more of a dream card than yours.

Too many characters probably, Firefox miscounts. Shorten it up a bit and repost.

Doesnt matter to me as long as Boise State plays in and wins the national championship.

It's not fantasy.

I have 1 Title game at one of the BCS hosts & 1 Rose Bowl.

I didn't think this would be so difficult

You want a dream BCS card?

National Championship: Texas vs. Notre Dame

Rose Bowl: USC vs. Michigan

Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma vs. Boise State

Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs. Florida State

Orange Bowl: Miami vs. USF

USC vs. Notre Dame is appealing as a title game but highly unlikely since they face each other annually in the regular season. Texas is a great replacement (though it pains me to say) because they have a rather large national following. Walk into any sports store in any state, and you will find a Texas Longhorns hat. Something about that queer steer seems to be very marketable.

USC and Michigan is obvious. Michigan is the winningest program in the history of the NCAA. USC is a huge football power with a huge following.

Who wouldn't want to see an Oklahoma-Boise State rematch?

Alabama vs. Florida State works. 2 rather storied programs with rather large followings. 2 teams that you'd almost never expect to see play one another. On one sideline, you've got a man that has been committed to a school for 40 years. On the other sideline, you've got a man that commits to nothing but the almighty dollar.

As the ACC champion, Miami gets the Orange Bowl bid. It makes sense to pit them against USF to determine who is truly the best team in southern Florida (although USF is more central Florida than southern).

If you're talking fantasy games that would vreate viewers and a crazy atmosphere you should have Michigan vs. Ohio State in one of the smaller bowls. To have what may be the greatest rivalry in college sports ramped up to a Bowl Game would be something I'd definately spend the time watching.

November 6, 2009  07:42 PM ET

Since we're dealing with a perfect fantasy season:

Championship game: 2001 Miami v 2003 USC
Rose Bowl: 2002 OSU v 1992 FSU
Sugar Bowl: 1996 Florida v 1995 Nebraska
Fiesta Bowl: 1985 PSU v 1997 Michigan
Orange Bowl: 1988 Notre Dame v 1985 Oklahoma

Miami wins the title.

More Abstract Dream:
Championship:
Bosie St. vs Alabama (mid major makes the title, florida out of title game, vs one of more storied programs in football))
Fiesta:
TCU vs Texas (in state rivalry, mid-major vs power--2 mid-majors in the BCS)
Sugar:
Syracuse vs. Michigan (two of college football's more storied programs that have recently been on the decline--I wish this game could be in the north but there is no BCS there so I put it here)
Rose:
USC vs Oregon (same conference I know--but can USC finally get rid of their trend of losing to Oregon teams--this time it REALLY matters?)
Orange:
Florida vs Florida St. (I think you know why)

I'm just tired of their hype machine- mostly because OSU keeps losing when it matters.

I love Michigan football & they aren't yappers or whiners quite like OSU

Your Bowl affiliations are whacked.

Notre Dame & Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, & Florida State in the Rose Bowl does not equate with me.

Traditional Bowl affiliations are important imo
